BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — The Memphis Tigers' formidable ground game took a big hit when All-America running back Darrell Henderson opted to skip the bowl game. Their offensive coordinator has already left for another job, and the defensive boss isn't far behind.

Memphis's short-handed running game against Wake Forest's defense. The Tigers rank second nationally in rushing offense, but will be without unanimous All-American RB Darrell Henderson. Wake Forest is 10th in the Atlantic Coast Conference in run defense, allowing 191.3 yards per game and 29 touchdowns on the ground.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Memphis will be playing the Birmingham Bowl without All-America running back Darrell Henderson.
Henderson tweeted Wednesday that he's bypassing his senior season to enter the NFL draft, but his post didn't indicate whether he'd play in the Dec. 22 bowl game against Wake Forest (6-6). Memphis coach Mike Norvell has since clarified that the Tigers (8-5) won't have Henderson for the bowl game.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — All-American running back Darrell Henderson says he's leaving Memphis after his junior season for the NFL draft.
Henderson shared his decision Wednesday on Twitter, saying he will be forever grateful for Memphis giving him his opportunity to chase his NFL dream. It is unclear if Henderson will play in Memphis' upcoming bowl game.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Darius Bradwell and Corey Dauphine each had two touchdowns and Tulane beat Memphis 40-24 on Friday night to snap an 11-game losing streak in the series.
The Tulane defense, allowing 491.5 yards per game, held Memphis to 277 yards — including just 51 rushing yards for the national leader Darrell Henderson. The Green Wave had eight sacks after entering with just six on the season.

Stretch run gives Tulane DL Ade Aruna time to turn around his season
Tulane defensive lineman Ade Aruna was helping bring down Memphis running back Darrell Henderson on Friday when he was part of one of the hardest hits of the night.
Unfortunately, the shot came from teammate Quinlan Carroll, who inadvertently smashed his helmet near Aruna’s ear hole as he tried to finish off Henderson during the third quarter of the Green Wave’s 56-26 loss.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — During a four-game winning streak that has given No. 24 Memphis the lead in the American Athletic Conference West Division, the Tigers have averaged 49.5 points and 541.5 yards total offense. Still, there's something missing.

DALLAS (AP) — Riley Ferguson went 20-of-27 for 287 yards and four touchdowns and Memphis beat SMU 51-7 on Saturday.
Memphis gained 257 total yards in the first half and led 38-7. Ferguson had TD passes of 50, 4, 20 and 21 yards before halftime and Darrell Henderson returned a kickoff 99-yards for a touchdown.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Darrell Henderson had two long touchdowns, one rushing and one receiving, to lead Memphis to a 24-14 victory over Tulane on Friday night.
Henderson turned a screen pass from Riley Ferguson into a 46-yard scoring play late in the first half to give the Tigers (5-1, 2-0 American) a 13-7 lead. Early in the fourth quarter he went off right tackle and cut to the sideline for a 45-yard run that made it 24-7.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Tony Pollard returned a kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown to help Memphis hold a fourth-quarter lead and Chauncey Lanier's interception with 18 second left sealed the Tigers' 34-27 victory over Temple on Thursday night.
