Pittsburgh: Tailbacks Qadree Ollison and Darrin Hall are a formidable 1-2 punch in the backfield. Ollison is only the sixth player in school history to achieve multiple 1,000-yard rushing seasons. Hall has enjoyed the most productive season of his career as a senior, rushing for 1,021 yards, and his average of 7.6 yards per carry ranks sixth nationally and second in the ACC.
Panthers turned back the clock to turn season around
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Darrin Hall paused for a second and pondered the question. Fresh off a 186-yard performance in front of his infant daughter in a victory that catapulted Pittsburgh to the brink of its first appearance in the ACC championship game, the senior running back tried to put a finger on the last time so much came so easily.
"It had to be Pop Warner when I was about 6 years old," Hall said. "But I'll try to keep it going."
Pitt smashes Virginia Tech 52-22 to near ACC Coastal title
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Qadree Ollison looked at the line of scrimmage, looked at the Virginia Tech end zone 97 long yards away and turned to good friend and fellow Pittsburgh running back Darrin Hall.
"I asked him if he thought I could run that far and he was like, 'I don't know,'" Ollison said with a laugh.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — Darrin Hall had already had a big night against a team that game-planned to stop him when he put a dazzling cap on it.
Hall ran for 229 yards and three touchdowns, the last a 75-yard burst one play after Virginia had awakened it fans by closing to within 14-13, and Pittsburgh beat No. 23 Virginia for the fourth year in a row, 23-13 on Friday night.
Pitt survives delay, rallies past Syracuse 44-37 in overtime
PITTSBURGH (AP) — The ultimate path of their team's uneven season potentially hanging in the balance, Pittsburgh senior running backs Qadree Ollison and Darrin Hall made a request to head coach Pat Narduzzi as the clock wound down against Syracuse on Saturday.
"We asked for the game to be on our backs," Ollison said. "Just put it on us. Put it on the backs. Put it on the offensive line. Put it on the seniors really. I think that's what we did."
Dynamic Do-Over? Hall and Ollison look to rebound at Pitt
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Darrin Hall and Qadree Ollison said all the right things last summer. Tasked with stepping in after James Conner took his school and Atlantic Coast Conference record 56 touchdowns to the NFL, the two Pittsburgh running backs insisted they weren't intimidated by the prospect of trying to emerge from Conner's considerable shadow.
Pitt's coaches credited the defense with 11 non-contact sacks Saturday in the final — and most important — scrimmage of the spring Saturday.
Nonetheless, quarterback Kenny Pickett found enough open space in the pocket to complete 17 of 22 passes for 138 yards and two touchdowns, according to statistics released by the team.
Pickett's backup, Ricky Town, completed 9 of 13 passes for 48 yards and a touchdown.
Working during spring practice with a position group of proven veterans and intriguing youngsters, Pitt running backs coach Andre Powell likes his options in devising the depth chart.
Defensive tackle Shane Roy couldn't stop smiling after Pitt's decisive 31-14 victory against Virginia.
He recorded his first career sack and was part of a defense that defiantly kept Virginia (5-3, 2-2 ACC) out of the end zone on five snaps inside the 5-yard line in the fourth quarter. Most impressively, that occurred after the outcome had long been decided.
"We looked around and said, ‘We got this,' " Roy said.

The proof came to life across four soggy quarters at Heinz Field on Saturday, as the Panthers relied heavily on running backs Darrin Hall and Qadree Ollison and a rapidly improving defense in a 31-14 victory over Virginia.

Barkley scores twice, No. 4 Penn State tops Pitt 33-14
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — James Franklin kept trying to downplay the importance of Penn State's meeting with Pittsburgh. The most important game in the universe to be sure, the coach said in the run-up to the 98th meeting between the two schools just 140 miles apart. But only because it was the only one his team had this week.
Funny, Franklin's players didn't quite see it the same way.
