JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — An Alaska lawmaker who broke with his caucus over the handling of smoking legislation has been removed as chair of the Legislative Council.
House Speaker Bryce Edgmon removed Rep. Sam Kito III from the seat Monday, replacing him with Rep. David Guttenberg.
Kito had been part of the House majority coalition.

The Alaska House of Representatives has unanimously passed a non-binding resolution urging the federal government against interfering in the state's voter-approved commercial marijuana industry.
Lawmakers in the Democratic-controlled state House voted 38-0 on Monday in support of the measure, House Joint Resolution 21, advancing it to the Republican-led state Senate for further consideration.

Guttenberg was taken to a hospital Thursday for what was characterized as an unknown medical emergency.
Speaker Bryce Edgmon told reporters Friday that he thinks Guttenberg had an issue with his blood pressure medication. He says he expects Guttenberg to be released from the hospital Friday and on the House floor Monday.

House majority press secretary Mike Mason says Rep. David Guttenberg was conscious, lucid and joking as he was taken by paramedics to a Juneau hospital on Thursday.
Mason says the extent of Guttenberg's condition was not immediately known.
