GOODYEAR, Ariz. (AP) — Zach Duke has signed a $2 million, one-year deal with the Cincinnati Reds, who wanted a left-hander for the bullpen.
Duke agreed to the deal last week. It was completed Monday after he passed a physical.
Cincinnati overhauled its rotation and starting lineup in the offseason through a series of trades, hoping to become a contender. The bullpen already was solid with the additions of Jared Hughes and David Hernandez last season to set up closer Raisel Iglesias.
CINCINNATI (AP) — The Cincinnati Reds are working to complete a deal with Zach Duke that would add the left-hander to their bullpen, a person familiar with the discussions told The Associated Press.
The person spoke on condition of anonymity Friday because the deal, first reported by The Athletic, was subject to a successful physical and has not been completed. The Reds have not commented.
MIAMI (AP) — After 11 seasons in the minors, Isaac Galloway is cherishing every moment of his young big league career.

CINCINNATI (AP) — Despite pitching in the playoffs last season, reliever David Hernandez worried that he would wind up having to settle for another minor league contract and an invitation to some team's big league training camp next month. The Cincinnati Reds surprised him by offering a $5 million, two-year deal.
"It all kind of happened quickly, which is weird," Hernandez said Tuesday after the deal was announced.

ATLANTA (AP) — The Braves set their opening day roster by recalling catcher Anthony Recker to fill out the bench and assigning right-handed pitcher David Hernandez to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Recker's promotion means the Braves will carry five bench players, at least in the early weeks, when they have multiple off days.
