Broncos promote rookie pass rusher Jeff Holland
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Jeff Holland takes his inspiration from Von Miller on the practice field and Phillip Lindsay in the locker room.
The former Auburn star met Miller while preparing for the NFL draft. ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Von Miller has received plenty of instruction over the years from DeMarcus Ware, his idol-turned-mentor in Denver when they won a Super Bowl together and now his tutor as a part-time pass-rushing consultant for the Broncos.
Now, Miller's the one giving Ware some pointers, not on the football field but on the dance floor.
Ware is going to compete on "Dancing with the Stars" this fall .

Broncos Training Camp Capsule
DENVER BRONCOS (5-11)
OPEN CAMP: July 27, Englewood, Colorado
LAST YEAR: Coach Vance Joseph's first year was debacle in every phase. Denver's anemic offense cycled through three QBs during soured season that included eight-game skid, franchise's longest in half-century, and featured eight double-digit losses. Exhausted defense surrendered too many points and special teams were anything but. GM John Elway thought about firing Joseph but decided to give him second chance and then bolstered roster.
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — It was just like old times Wednesday at the Denver Broncos' training complex. DeMarcus Ware took Bradley Chubb aside and gave him some pointers in between drives at the team's mandatory minicamp.
"I've been doing it my whole career," said Ware, who returned to Denver as a pass-rushing consultant a year after retiring from the Broncos.
Broncos place linebacker Shane Ray on IR
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Shane Ray arrived at training camp eager for a big year that would take some focus off superstar Von Miller following the retirement of DeMarcus Ware.
On the first day of training camp, Ray broke his left wrist, which would require three surgeries, including one last Friday to remove the screws.
Englewood, Colo. — Twenty-one months ago, John Elway was basking in a confetti shower as he put his fingerprints on the third Super Bowl trophy he's captured for the Denver Broncos and dedicated it to team owner Pat Bowlen, who's battling Alzheimer's.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — The Denver Broncos spent four of their last five offseasons working out long-term deals with players they had franchised: Von Miller, Demaryius Thomas, Ryan Clady and Matt Prater.
There aren't any looming hefty deals bogging down the front office this year, but there is a simmering contract dispute: kicker Brandon McManus hasn't signed his $2.7 million tender in the hopes that agent Drew Rosenhaus can get him a long-term deal.
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — DeMarcus Ware's retirement is both a blessing and a burden for Denver Broncos third-year pass-rusher Shane Ray.

Miller, Broncos hope this isn’t end of Ware’s career
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — DeMarcus Ware was likened to a vintage Ferrari that simply needed new brakes.
There's certainly nothing wrong with the motor of the 34-year-old Denver Broncos pass rush specialist, though.
That was Von Miller's take on Ware, a driving force behind Miller's recent success. Ware is scheduled to have surgery Friday to repair a ruptured disk, ending what's been an injury-filled season. Ware may have played his last game in Denver, possibly even the last game of his career.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — DeMarcus Ware needs season-ending back surgery and will miss the Denver Broncos' season finale in which his teammates will play for pride instead of playoff positioning.

Defending Super Bowl champs sitting out the playoffs
DENVER (AP) — The one team that best found a way to neutralize Von Miller, Aqib Talib, DeMarcus Ware and Chris Harris Jr. in 2016 was the Denver Broncos themselves.
The Super Bowl 50 champs won't get to defend their title despite a powerful pass rush and stellar secondary that were even better than the ones that carried Peyton Manning across the finish line in February.

FOXBORO — Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has faced some formidable defensive players over 17 NFL seasons.

Broncos have fallen to seventh in AFC playoff race
DENVER (AP) — Brandon McManus was wide left and now the defending Super Bowl champs are on the outside looking in on the AFC playoff race, too.
The Kansas City Chiefs capitalized on short field position following McManus' missed 62-yard attempt to drive down and win it 30-27 on Cairo Santos' 34-yarder that clanked off the left upright and over the crossbar in the final second of overtime Sunday night.
NFL HALFWAY: Tom Brady is back and better than ever
The New England Patriots barely missed a beat when Tom Brady served his monthlong "Deflategate" suspension, going 3-1 and keeping up with the undefeated Super Bowl champion Denver Broncos.
Trevor Siemian, the 250th overall draft pick in 2015, outdueled a trio of top overall selections in Cam Newton, Andrew Luck and Jameis Winston during a magnificent first month as Peyton Manning's surprise successor.
Packers without Matthews, Cobb; Broncos scratch Talib
The Green Bay Packers will play in Atlanta without star pass rusher Clay Matthews and wide receiver Randall Cobb, both because of hamstring injuries.
Wide receiver Ty Montgomery, who has been helping out in an injury-ravaged backfield, is also out with an illness. That leaves Knile Davis and Don Jackson to run the ball for the Packers.
DeMarcus Ware has a day of big returns Wednesday
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — It was a day of big returns for DeMarcus Ware.
After tweeting "Live for what today has to offer, not what yesterday has taken away," the Broncos pass rusher practiced Wednesday for the first time since breaking his right forearm on Sept. 18. He later learned that Denver police had apprehended two burglary suspects and recovered his stolen Super Bowl 50 ring.

Ray’s role increases even more with Ware’s absence
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Saying Shane Ray has been preparing for DeMarcus Ware's absence is an understatement.
Ray, the Broncos' top draft pick last year, and Shaq Barrett got the vast majority of snaps with the starters at outside linebacker during the offseason because Ware's bad back was acting up again and Von Miller was mired in a contract stalemate.

Broncos linebacker DeMarcus Ware returns to practice
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Broncos linebacker DeMarcus Ware returned to practice on a limited basis Tuesday with the plan to have him ready for the season opener against Carolina.
Ware missed training camp with a back issue that kept him out of five games in 2015, but he said he feels much better than he did during Denver's 24-10 win over Carolina in the Super Bowl last February.
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — DeMarcus Ware said the Denver Broncos are being "precautious" with him by holding him out of practice with a lingering bad back.
Ware didn't take any snaps during the offseason program and began training camp Thursday on the non-football injury list even though he said his back is much better than it was in the playoffs, when he had a dozen quarterback hits and 3½ sacks.
"To be honest with you, I was probably around 70 percent," Ware said...
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Forget Super Bowl 50. Focus on Super Bowl 51.
That's coach Gary Kubiak's message, telling his players to put their championship in the rearview as they kicked off training camp Thursday with star Von Miller in uniform for the first time since the Super Bowl.
Miller will ease into action after missing the offseason because of a contract stalemate that ended after he signed a $114.5 million deal with $70 million guaranteed.
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — The Super Bowl champs begin training camp Thursday with major questions on both sides of the ball, beginning with who will be the one throwing it.
General manager John Elway declared the Denver Broncos' quarterback competition wide open.
Coach Gary Kubiak said he'll split snaps between Mark Sanchez, Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch, beginning — but not set — in that order.
"Gary is very seasoned at that position, so I know he's...
