Steelers look to extend surge vs. road-weary Browns
PITTSBURGH (AP) — The faces change, sometimes at a dizzying rate. The results when the Cleveland Browns visit the Pittsburgh Steelers do not.
Each fall the Browns make their way to Heinz Field, typically with a new quarterback and frequently with a new head coach in tow.
And each trip ends in similar fashion: with a quiet bus ride back home after another stinging defeat in a rivalry that hasn't felt like much of one for more than two decades.
Packers QB Aaron Rodgers active for Vikings game
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is active for the game against the Minnesota Vikings.
He was questionable coming into the day with a left knee injury.
The two-time NFL MVP was held out from practice at midweek but went through the team's light practice on Saturday. Rodgers got hurt in the second quarter last week against the Bears before returning in the second half to lead a come-from-behind victory.
McCarthy: Packers QB Aaron Rodgers to get week to get ready
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Minnesota Vikings coach Mike Zimmer isn't buying it.
The Green Bay Packers can say all they want that quarterback Aaron Rodgers is day to day with a knee injury. The two-time NFL MVP will be given the whole week to get ready for Sunday's game against Minnesota, coach Mike McCarthy said.
"Yeah, well, you know he walks on water, so I'm sure he's going to play," Zimmer said Wednesday in a conference call.
After rousing start for Mack, familiar end for Bears vs. GB
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Khalil Mack got off to a rousing start with the Chicago Bears.
The ending had a familiar feel for his new team.
Make it five straight losses for the Bears to their NFC North archrivals after a 24-23 defeat to Green Bay on Sunday night.
"I prepared all offseason for the first game of the season and I wanted to ... make an impact," Mack said. "But you want to win these games. That's the only thing on my mind. I hate losing."
Packers’ Aaron Rodgers returns after knee injury
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Aaron Rodgers has returned for the Green Bay Packers in the third quarter after being taken off the field on a cart because of a knee injury.
The Packers announced at halftime that the star quarterback was questionable to return. Minutes later, he walked back on to the field and threw warm-up passes with backup DeShone Kizer before the start of the second half.
He returned for the Packers' first drive of the third quarter, with 9:10 left. The Packers were trailing 20-0.
Packers keep 3 QBs on first roster, just 2 running backs
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — The Green Bay Packers are keeping more quarterbacks than running backs on their season-opening roster.
Undrafted free agent Tim Boyle made the roster as the third quarterback behind starter Aaron Rodgers and backup DeShone Kizer. Green Bay's initial 53-man roster lists just Jamaal Williams and Ty Montgomery at running back.

LAST YEAR: Finished under .500 and out of playoffs for first time since 2008. Offense struggled with QB Aaron Rodgers sidelined for seven games with broken collarbone. Defense plagued by porous secondary and lack of consistent pass rush. Injuries ravaged cornerback position again.
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — DeShone Kizer has already had quite the NFL career after just one year in the league.
But what a year it was starting for the winless Cleveland Browns as a rookie.
Now Kizer is in a completely different situation with the Green Bay Packers. There are no expectations to start with Aaron Rodgers healthy again. He might not even be the top backup come fall with Brett Hundley back and hoping to be the top reserve behind Rodgers for a third straight year.
Browns exercise fifth-year option on S Damarious Randall
CLEVELAND (AP) — The Browns exercised the fifth-year option on defensive back Damarious Randall, acquired during the offseason from Green Bay.
Cleveland traded quarterback DeShone Kizer and swapped draft picks on March 14 with the Packers for Randall. The 25-year-old is expected to play free safety for the Browns, allowing Jabrill Peppers to move to strong safety, where he played more at Michigan.
Randall was selected by Green Bay with the No. 30 overall pick in the 2015 draft.
Drafting Mayfield, Dorsey plants his flag: Darcy cartoon
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Cleveland Browns drafting Baker Mayfield with the number one pick in the NFL draft should not have surprised anyone.
General Manager John Dorsey telegraphed that he would draft Mayfield when he traded for Tyrod Taylor and traded DeShone Kizer.
Cleveland Browns ship Kevin Hogan to Washington, complete 2017 QB room cleanse
The Browns now have the same number of quarterbacks left on their roster who attempted a pass last season as 2017 wins.
New GM John Dorsey traded QB Kevin Hogan to Washington in exchange for a sixth-round pick Friday, per multiple reports. Hogan becomes the last of three holdover Browns quarterbacks to get dealt this offseason.
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — The Cleveland Browns traded their third quarterback of the offseason, sending Kevin Hogan to the Washington Redskins.
The teams announced the deal Friday that includes swapping sixth-round picks. Cleveland acquires the 188th pick from Washington for No. 205, which it previously acquired from New England for cornerback Jason McCourty.

CLEVELAND (AP) — The Cleveland Browns continued their quarterback makeover, signing free agent Drew Stanton to a two-year contract.
The veteran is expected to back up Tyrod Taylor, recently acquired in a trade with Buffalo. Cleveland is also expected to draft a quarterback with the No. 1 overall pick in this year's draft.
Stanton signed on Friday. He gives the Browns experienced depth and protection in case Taylor gets injured.
CLEVELAND (AP) — No longer part of the Browns' plans, Cody Kessler got passed to a new team.
Cleveland traded its former starting quarterback to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday, the latest move for the Browns who have spent the offseason upgrading the team's most troublesome position following a 0-16 season.
In exchange for Kessler, the Browns will receive a conditional 2019 seventh-round draft pick from the Jaguars, who were in the market to find a backup for starter Blake Bortles.
For DeShone Kizer, step back could be a long-term step forward with Packers
GREEN BAY — When DeShone Kizer decided to leave Notre Dame following his redshirt sophomore year, more than a few NFL scouts thought he would have benefitted from another year in school — even after starting two seasons at quarterback for the Fighting Irish.
Hue Jackson makes it clear: Tyrod Taylor will be Cleveland Browns’ starting QB
The Cleveland Browns introduced their slew of new acquisitions on Thursday, and head coach Hue Jackson immediately annointed quarterback Tyrod Taylor his starter.
"He's going to be the starting quarterback," Jackson said. "There is no competition."
Another trade? Why not? Browns also land Green Bay Packers CB Damarious Randall for QB DeShone Kizer
The Cleveland Browns were on a roll, so why stop at two trades?
In a wild, dizzying day for the franchise and its embattled fan base, the Browns added to their recent trade acquisitions by landing Green Bay Packers cornerback Damarious Randall. They're sending 2017 second-round QB DeShone Kizer to Green Bay, and the two clubs will also swap fourth- and fifth-rounders, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The Browns made a huge splash Friday by agreeing to trades for Buffalo Bills quarterback Tyrod Taylor, Miami Dolphins slot receiver Jarvis Landry and Green Bay cornerback Damarious Randall and shipping quarterback DeShone Kizer to the Packers, a person familiar with the moves confirmed for the Beacon Journal/Ohio.com.
Thrown away: AP source: Browns trade QB Kizer to Packers
CLEVELAND (AP) — After one difficult season, the Browns threw DeShone Kizer away.
Cleveland traded its starting quarterback on Friday to the Green Bay Packers in exchange for cornerback Damarious Randall, a person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press. The teams will also swap late-round picks, said the person who spoke on condition of anonymity because league rules prohibit teams from announcing any trades until next week.
Browns make 3 major trades, acquire QB Taylor, WR Landry
CLEVELAND (AP) — Maybe the losing and laughing will finally stop. The Browns aren't fooling around.
With three stunning trades on the eve of free agency, Cleveland landed a proven starting quarterback, a game-breaking, three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver and a shut-down cornerback.
AP sources: Browns agree to acquire QB Taylor from Bills
BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Leading the Bills to their first playoff appearance in 18 years wasn't enough for Tyrod Taylor to secure his long-term future in Buffalo.
The Bills are starting over at quarterback after agreeing to trade their three-year starter to the Cleveland Browns on Friday, according to two people with direct knowledge of the trade. Cleveland is sending its first pick in the third round to Buffalo.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — John Dorsey might make a deal for the top pick in this year's NFL draft — if the price is the right.
At the league's scouting combine on Thursday, the Cleveland Browns general manager took his sales pitch public.
"There are a lot of things we can do at No. 1 and not just get a quarterback," Dorsey said. "If someone wants to come up and make a trade, I'd make a trade, too. Just give me a call and see what's up."

True Browns fans should embrace 'perfect season' losers parade: Mark Naymik
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Die-hard Browns fans share some blame for the reborn franchise that has become the NFL's equivalent of "new Coke."
Cleveland fans' bottomless loyalty made the franchise an easy mark for rich owners who wanted a NFL team to gain entry to the only club more exclusive – and profitable - than the U.S. Senate.
Owners got fat checks from the league's television revenue-sharing plan.
Some mild franchise history within grasp and playing a game that in all likelihood had no bearing on their postseason seeding, the Steelers' passrushers picked their priority.
"We stopped playing the defense a couple times to make some plays to try to get the sack," linebacker Bud Dupree said with a wide smile.
"I feel like that's why we gave up so many yards; we were focused on that sack record."
On Sunday, the Cleveland Browns became only the NFL's second-ever 0-16 team and the first in nearly a decade.
The Browns had their chances against a Pittsburgh Steelers team that rested a lot of prominent players, including Ben Roethlisberger, Le'Veon Bell and Cam Heyward. But Corey Coleman dropped a crucial fourth-down pass deep in Pittsburgh territory, and the Steelers hung on for a 28-24 win.
Woe and 16: Browns go winless after 28-24 loss to Steelers
PITTSBURGH (AP) — It was a lost season distilled to one play, filled with hope and achingly familiar anguish for a franchise that's known little else over the last two decades.
Fourth down. Trailing by four. One last shot at avoiding NFL infamy. Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback DeShone Kizer somehow escaped pressure. He worked to his left and flicked the ball to receiver Corey Coleman all alone on the sideline, well past the first-down marker.
Pittsburgh — The Cleveland Browns joined the 2008 Detroit Lions as the only teams in NFL history to go 0-16 when they failed to find a way to beat the backup-laden Pittsburgh Steelers in a 28-24 loss on Sunday.
Cleveland had a chance late in the fourth quarter, but quarterback DeShone Kizer's fourth-down pass to Corey Coleman bounced off Coleman's hands and fell incomplete.

Browns move to brink of winless season, lose 20-3 to Bears
CHICAGO (AP) — The Cleveland Browns got pushed to the brink of a winless season, and the anger and embarrassment were as easy to spot as the mistakes they made.
DeShone Kizer called it a low point in his life. Coach Hue Jackson made his feelings clear, too.
Kizer threw two more interceptions and the Browns committed two turnovers in the red zone on the way to a 20-3 loss to the struggling Chicago Bears on a snowy Sunday.
Bears QB Trubisky gets win against hometown team
CHICAGO (AP) — The snow was steady for most of the day, making for treacherous footing at Soldier Field.
The announced crowd of 41,257 sipped on all sorts of beverages while trying to stay as warm as possible, and stadium workers used shovels to clear the playing surface during timeouts.
A perfect scene for a proud son of Ohio playing his hometown team.
Take 2: Is Cleveland the NFL’s worst organization?
Pro Football Weekly contributors Jon Styf and Kyle Nabors debate whether the Cleveland Browns are the worst organization in the NFL.
Nabors: So, Jon, the Browns are two weeks away from completing the first winless season in the NFL since the Detroit Lions managed to go 0-16 back in 2008. It's a rare feat that requires an extreme level of ineptitude. The Browns are currently making moves in the front office, but as of now, are they the worst franchise in the NFL in history?
Browns look to hit brakes on winless march against Bears
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — Time is running out on the Cleveland Browns with two games left in the regular season.
And the idea they could wind up without a win is weighing on quarterback DeShone Kizer.
"You definitely feel it," he said.
A Christmas Eve victory over the Chicago Bears on Sunday would be a neat gift and a welcome relief for a team with nothing to celebrate this season.
No turnover: Browns rookie QB Kizer hangs on to starting job
CLEVELAND (AP) — Loose with the football, DeShone Kizer held onto his starting job.
Cleveland's rookie quarterback, who upped his NFL-leading interception total to 19 with two more picks Sunday, will start this week when the winless Browns play in Chicago.
"It is still DeShone," coach Hue Jackson said Monday.

Four-position player Jeremiah Sirles provides Vikings needed versatility on offensive line
There are two NFL changes in the 21st Century that continue to surprise: the need teams feel to rush young quarterbacks into the lineup, and the injuries that tear apart most every offensive line during the course of a season.
Rodgers poised for return after Packers beat Browns in OT
CLEVELAND (AP) — Aaron Rodgers stood on the sideline, fighting off the December chill inside a large green Packers jacket and stocking cap.
His game-day look could soon be more familiar.
Relegated to being a cheerleader since breaking his collarbone in October, Rodgers may be back on the field next Sunday for Green Bay, which kept its playoff hopes ticking by rallying to beat the Cleveland Browns 27-21 in overtime.
Packers: Tom Oates gives Green Bay an overall grade of ‘B’ for overtime win at Tampa Bay
Brett Hundley ran the wrong play on a fourth-and-1 toss in the third quarter but was superb after that. Davante Adams made a huge touchdown catch to tie the game. Then he did it again to win the game. Cleveland stuffed the box and the backs had little running room. Jamaal Williams helped in the passing game.
Browns doomed by critical mistakes in 27-21 OT loss
CLEVELAND (AP) — DeShone Kizer sat at his locker and spoke privately for several minutes with new general manager John Dorsey, who did his best to encourage the rookie.
There was plenty to discuss. The Browns had blown another one.
Kizer's interception in overtime set up Green Bay's winning touchdown as Cleveland fell to 0-13 for the second straight year with a 27-21 loss on Sunday to the Green Bay Packers, who survived another week without quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Packers: Down on the corner, Packers try to piece together coverage crew for Sunday
GREEN BAY — You know that old football adage about how you can’t have enough cornerbacks? The Green Bay Packers know all too well how true that is. They never seem to have enough.
“That seems like that’s been the story the last two years,” cornerbacks coach Joe Whitt said, shaking his head. “It is what it is.”
What it is entering Sunday’s game at Cleveland is potential trouble for a team trying to stay alive in hopes of two-time NFL MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ return to game action.
Rocked rookie: Kizer down after Browns fall to 0-12
BEREA, Ohio (AP) — DeShone Kizer kept the brown hoodie pulled up over his head, providing him some comfort and perhaps a small haven to hide.
He didn't come close to cracking a smile and Cleveland's rookie quarterback spoke with little emotion, his words delivered slowly.
Kizer has been beaten down like never before. The losing — so much losing — has taken its toll.
Fans are glad to see Gordon return, but feelings are bittersweet
CLEVELAND, OHIO -- After the Cleveland Browns loss last night to the Los Angeles Chargers 10 - 19, and a now 0 - 12 record, Browns fans are looking for any silver lining to the unending gauntlet of defeat.
Drop zone: Browns WR Coleman still bothered by major miscue
BEREA, Ohio (AP) — The spiral slipped through Corey Coleman's hands, depriving the Browns of a certain touchdown.
Worse, his miscue may have cost them a precious win — a so-far-distant first win.
Coleman dropped rookie quarterback DeShone Kizer's perfectly thrown pass in the end zone last Sunday in Cincinnati, and when the wide receiver returned to the sidelined he felt as if he had gone into a trance.
