Column: Pats’, Rams’ titles not tarnished by bad officiating
Yes, the Los Angeles Rams got away with a flagrant foul (or two) by cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman that allowed them to sneak out of New Orleans with the NFC championship, right past the highway sign on the causeway over Lake Pontchartrain reading, "WE WERE ROBBED ."
Chiefs suddenly stingy defense gets test in AFC title game
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The only defense the Kansas City Chiefs played most of this season was, well, in defense of their own defense, which gave up so many yards and points that it became a running joke around the league.
Yes, the Chiefs scored in bushels. They also allowed points in bunches.
It will be dark and cold, perhaps absurdly cold, Sunday night in Kansas City. Arrowhead Stadium will be lit up, though, and the winner of the Patriots-Chiefs game will head to Atlanta for the Super Bowl.
Chiefs’ Ford, Jones lone bright spots in shaky defense
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Twice in a span of three years the Kansas City Chiefs spent their top draft pick on defense, and the response from their fan base was a collective shrug followed by some frantic Google searches.
Who had heard of Dee Ford outside the SEC? Or Chris Jones, for that matter?
Jackson sustains ankle injury in OT loss to Chiefs
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs finally tracked down Lamar Jackson when it mattered most.
After watching the elusive Ravens quarterback scoot all over the field Sunday, Justin Houston and Dee Ford combined on an overtime sack that left Jackson holding his ankle. He then had to watch from the sideline as Robert Griffin III threw two incompletions and Kansas City escaped with a 27-24 victory Sunday.
Chiefs’ Dee Ford lining himself up for big payday next year
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Dee Ford insists he isn't motivated by money, and considering he's making nearly $9 million this season, the Chiefs linebacker is probably telling the truth when he claims he has everything he needs.
Well, he'd better start building a list wants.
After four years spent scratching at his potential, only to have injuries get in the way, the former first-round draft pick is having a breakout season in a contract year.
Chiefs sign ex-Browns LB Nate Orchard to help ailing defense
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Nate Orchard has gone from a highly drafted pick of the Cleveland Browns to a featured star on HBO's documentary series "Hard Knocks" to the couch as an unemployed linebacker in the NFL.
Now, he's suiting up for a team with Super Bowl aspirations.
Discipline all that’s missing as KC cruises past Jags to 5-0
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The only thing missing from the Chiefs' rout of the Jaguars on Sunday was discipline.
The Chiefs forced five turnovers on defense, returning one of Blake Bortles' four interceptions for a touchdown. Their high-scoring offense gained more than 400 yards behind Patrick Mahomes' efficient air assault and Kareem Hunt's hard running. And their special teams were simply steady.
Chiefs hope splitting linebacker coaching duties pays off
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (AP) — When Dee Ford was asked what excited him most about the Kansas City Chiefs' defense, the fifth-year linebacker could have talked about finally being healthy or an influx of new young players.

Chiefs place pass rusher Ford on IR, sign DT Hamilton
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Chiefs placed pass rusher Dee Ford on injured reserve with an ailing back and signed defensive tackle Justin Hamilton on Thursday night, three days before a crucial game against Oakland.

Chiefs rule Ford, Smith out vs Bills; Revis could be active
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Chiefs linebackers Dee Ford and Terrance Smith have been ruled out for Sunday's game against Buffalo, while newly signed cornerback Darrelle Revis could be active for the first time this season.

Chiefs’ Tamba Hali, Dee Ford ruled out for game at Giants
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Chiefs pass rushers Tamba Hali and Dee Ford have been ruled out Sunday against the New York Giants, while defensive lineman Allen Bailey was also ruled out for their struggling defense.

The Chiefs waived cornerback D.J. White to make room for Hali on the 53-man roster.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Chiefs linebacker Tamba Hali returned to practice for the first time since the end of last season, though it's unclear when he will be activated from the physically unable to perform list.

Chiefs lose Wilson, Ford to injuries against Broncos
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs lost wide receiver Albert Wilson to a hamstring injury and linebacker Dee Ford to a back injury in their game against the Denver Broncos.
Kansas City was already playing with a reduced wide receiver corps following a season-ending injury to Chris Conley. Wilson has been banged up often this season, and his hamstring injury put more pressure on second-year pro Demarcus Robinson and rookie Jehu Chesson.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Chiefs left tackle Eric Fisher was active for Monday night's game against the Washington Redskins after he was questionable with a back injury that caused him to miss a pair of practices.

The Redskins listed six players as questionable and all were active Monday night.

Chiefs offense dazzles in surprising upset of Patriots
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs surprised just about everyone with their season-opening win in New England, especially the reigning Super Bowl champs, who had their festive night celebrating another Lombardi Trophy spoiled by Alex Smith and Co.
Most surprising, though, was how the Chiefs sprung the upset.
Chiefs’ linebackers could emerge as league’s best unit
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Justin Houston was a bit late to practice over the weekend because he had to take one of the league's random drug tests, and the star linebacker wasn't told about it until he'd just gone to the bathroom.
His brief absence still caused quite a stir on social media.
If nothing else, the humorous episode showed just how closely watched the linebacker position will be in Kansas City this season.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Charcandrick West was playing for Joe McKnight. Tyreek Hill was playing for the fans chanting his name. The Chiefs defense was playing for its injured leader.

"This was a big game," Chiefs cornerback Steven Nelson said, stripping off his uniform after a 21-13 victory over the Oakland Raiders on Thursday night. "It means a lot of things down the road."
Peters active for Chiefs-Broncos but 3 KC starters out
DENVER (AP) — Cornerback Marcus Peters is active for Kansas City's game at Denver on Sunday night, but fellow Chiefs starters Dee Ford, Jaye Howard and Jeremy Maclin are out.
Peters is dealing with a hip injury that limited him in practice during the week. Howard also has a hip injury, Ford a strained hamstring and Maclin a pulled groin.
Other Chiefs inactives: quarterback Tyler Bray, cornerback Steen Nelson, tight end Ross Travis and O-lineman Mike Person.
Chiefs’ Maclin to miss third straight game with groin injury
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Chiefs wide receiver Jeremy Maclin will miss his third consecutive game when Kansas City visits the Denver Broncos for a pivotal AFC West showdown Sunday night.

Several KC starters miss practice, Peters easing way back
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Chiefs hope to get at least some of their injured players back for Sunday night's showdown at Denver.
But as of Wednesday, the prognosis for their return was still unsure.
Five starters, including linebacker Dee Ford (hamstring), wide receiver Jeremy Maclin (groin), nose tackle Dontari Poe (knee), Jaye Howard (hip), and linebacker Derrick Johnson, all didn't practice.
The Chiefs and Broncos are tied for second in the AFC West at 7-3, a game behind Oakland.
Chiefs’ Dee Ford goes from draft bust to breakout star
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Dee Ford was a bust, a laughingstock in Kansas City, the punchline to jokes that usually referenced broken-down pickup trucks and ended up with them never getting where they were supposed to go.
That was last year. Things have changed this year.
Now, the 2014 first-round pick is among the league leader in sacks, the emerging star for a defense that has pushed the Chiefs into AFC West contention, and he's the one having all the laughs.
