Broncos turn over coach/quarterback duo again
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — In just about every season he's been in charge of football operations in Denver, John Elway has had to address major concerns at one or both of the two most consequential positions in the NFL: head coach and quarterback.
This offseason, he made changes at both spots, hiring Vic Fangio and acquiring Joe Flacco in a trade that will become official next month when the league's new year begins.

Case Keenum finds comfort level in Denver’s offense
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Case Keenum has a simple answer for why none of his passes were picked off in November after throwing interceptions in each of his first eight games as the Denver Broncos' new quarterback.
"I'm throwing it to our guys, not throwing it to the other team," Keenum said. "Who knew?"
It's actually more than just Keenum taking care of the football.
"I just think he's getting comfortable with the system," receiver Emmanuel Sanders said.
Texans beat Titans 34-17 for team-record 8th straight win
HOUSTON (AP) — The Houston Texans wanted to honor their late owner and founder Robert "Bob" McNair, who died last week at age 81.

Thomas used bye week to catch up for 2nd game with Texans
HOUSTON (AP) — While most of his new teammates were relaxing on beaches or attending football games at their universities during Houston's bye week, Demaryius Thomas was at NRG Stadium studying the playbook and watching film.

Broncos trade wide receiver Demaryius Thomas to Texans
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Demaryius Thomas' trade from the Denver Broncos to the Houston Texans wasn't so much a good-bye as a see-you-later.
As in Sunday, when the Texans (5-3) visit the Broncos (3-5).
"I thought about it, yeah," general manager John Elway said Tuesday. "But, ultimately, we had to look past that and (we) thought that it wouldn't affect our game."

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Demaryius Thomas is bracing for a trade after Denver slipped to 3-5 midway through his ninth NFL season.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — The longest-tenured Bronco isn't sure if he'll be in Denver much longer as rumors swirl that wide receiver Demaryius Thomas is available as the NFL's trade deadline approaches next week.
"It's football. It's a business. That's what happens," Thomas said Monday of the trade buzz. "That's what happens. It's happened before. I never think it would happen to me. But I'm just like everybody else. I'm an athlete and it happens once you get older."

Keenum and Thomas haven’t found a rhythm yet
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — As a combo, the Denver Broncos' two highest-paid players aren't exactly money yet.
Although Demaryius Thomas caught the winning touchdown pass from Case Keenum in their opener, the pair making a combined $27 million this season have 10 missed connections so far.
That's almost as many connections — 11 for 81 yards — as they've made together.
Broncos find rhythm, chemistry with Keenum under center
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — For the first time since 2014, the Denver Broncos spent their summer without a job-share arrangement at quarterback, something they expect to give them a big boost Sunday when they open against the Seattle Seahawks with Case Keenum under center .
Okung raises fist; Marshall, Thomas not on field for anthem
DENVER (AP) — Linebacker Brandon Marshall and wide receiver Demaryius Thomas weren't with their teammates on the sideline for the national anthem prior to the Denver Broncos' game against the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday night.

In Arizona, Los Angeles Chargers starting left tackle Russell Okung raised his fist during the anthem prior to the team's game against the Cardinals.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — The Denver Broncos have signed Mark Chapman, a rookie wide receiver from Central Michigan University who was the top overall selection in the 2018 Canadian Football League draft.
Chapman didn't sign with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and now is taking a longshot at playing in the NFL, an opportunity that arose after two receivers failed to report to training camp this week.
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — The Denver Broncos held linebacker Shane Ray out of workouts Monday due to a sore wrist.
Ray broke his left wrist in July and underwent three surgeries that caused him to miss the opening six games in 2017. He had one sack over the next eight contests before going back on injured reserve.
Denver coach Vance Joseph said Ray's wrist was irritated and the team is "taking it slow. Just being smart with guys. It's the spring."
Broncos add 2 big bangers on offense in Sutton, Freeman
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — On Day 2 of the NFL draft, Denver Broncos general manager John Elway began fixing the mess on offense, selecting two big bangers in SMU wide receiver Courtland Sutton in the second round and Oregon running back Royce Freeman in the third.

Claiborne, Forte sit out practice for Jets
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — New York Jets cornerback Morris Claiborne and running back Matt Forte were among a handful of players who sat out practice with injuries.
Claiborne has been dealing with a sprained right foot since late October and says Wednesday that his performance against Denver last Sunday was embarrassing. He says he was limping throughout, but assured coaches he was OK because he didn't want to come out.
Demaryius Thomas can still be a wrecking ball for Broncos
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Approaching 30, Demaryius Thomas isn't the same wide receiver who combined breakaway speed and superior size to join Tory Holt and Marvin Harrison as the only players in NFL history with five consecutive 90-catch, 1,000-yard seasons.
That streak is in jeopardy and his 11.3-yard average per catch is the lowest of his eight-year pro career.
Punt returner Jordan Taylor sparks the Broncos

Broncos star receiver Thomas hasn’t scored in nearly a year
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Demaryius Thomas is on pace for his usual 1,000-yard season but the Denver Broncos' star receiver is closing in on another landmark that's both unwanted and unfathomable.
It's been nearly a year since Thomas' last touchdown catch.
Broncos excited about boost Jake Butt will provide
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Trevor Siemian broke into a wide grin when asked about seeing Jake Butt line up and finally run some routes this week.
The versatile tight end from Michigan blew out his right knee against Florida State in the Orange Bowl. Now healthy, he could be the elixir for much of what's ailing a sputtering offense that's managed a single touchdown in each of the Broncos' last three games.
Broncos insist star receivers will get their chances
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Emmanuel Sanders called Denver "wide receiver heaven" after Mike McCoy returned this year for a second stint as the Broncos' offensive architect.
It hasn't exactly been nirvana for Sanders and fellow star Demaryius Thomas so far.
Blanketed by defensive backs, the veteran receivers have combined for just 38 catches and two touchdowns.
Sanders has both of the scores but his 20 catches for 190 yards work out to 9.5 yards per catch, well below his career average of 13.4.

Broncos take a depleted roster to California
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — The Denver Broncos are taking a depleted roster to San Francisco, where they'll practice twice with the 49ers in advance of their preseason game Saturday.
"I know we're going to compete, but the main thing is keeping both sides healthy," receiver Demaryius Thomas said. "We've had some people go down."
Another guy trying to prove himself at camp is former Louisiana Tech receiver Carlos Henderson. The rookie is making some noise in Denver though, scoring three touchdowns at Broncos practice Thursday and continuing to impress ever since the pads came on.
Henderson knows what he needs to do to make the Broncos roster and is looking at veteran Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders for guidance.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Wide receiver Demaryius Thomas has a little extra spring in his step in these offseason workouts.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — The Denver Broncos spent four of their last five offseasons working out long-term deals with players they had franchised: Von Miller, Demaryius Thomas, Ryan Clady and Matt Prater.
There aren't any looming hefty deals bogging down the front office this year, but there is a simmering contract dispute: kicker Brandon McManus hasn't signed his $2.7 million tender in the hopes that agent Drew Rosenhaus can get him a long-term deal.
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Emmanuel Sanders called Denver "wide receiver heaven" back when he joined the Broncos in 2014. He's counting on Mike McCoy bringing back nirvana to the Rocky Mountains in 2017.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Demaryius Thomas is smiling again. The pain in his left hip is gone. Mike McCoy is here again.
Thomas expects these two developments to help him have a resurgent 2017 season and fulfill new coach Vance Joseph's plea to be a more consistent leader.
Thomas hobbled through much of last season with a painful hip injury but still managed his fifth consecutive 90-catch, 1,000-yard season.
