Edith Dennis Moore Stephens, 79, of Philadelphia, a longtime teacher and the descendant of one of the earliest free African American families to own property in the rural North, died Thursday, Aug. 31.
Ms. Stephens was about to go to a rehab center after being treated for several conditions at Jefferson University Hospital when she went into a rapid decline, said her son, Lonnie Moore III. The exact cause of death wasn’t clear.

BLYTHEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Prosecutors have dropped capital murder charges filed against a Blytheville man who had been accused in a December shooting death.
The Blytheville Courier News reports that the charges were dropped Monday against Travis Young, who had been charged in the Dec. 19 killing of 52-year-old Dennis Moore.

Capt. Scott Adams told reporters that a 19-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man both surrendered to police Tuesday for the shooting death of 52-year-old Dennis Moore.
