Michigan adjusts to decisions by 4 to skip Peach Bowl
ATLANTA (AP) — Michigan probably will need more than one running back to replace Karan Higdon in Saturday's Peach Bowl against Florida.

Harbaugh may have his best team at Michigan so far
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Jim Harbaugh is in his fourth year at Michigan, where he has had time to assemble perhaps his best team.
Ann Arbor — When Michigan assistant coach Chris Partridge changed coaching assignments this offseason from linebackers to safeties, he submerged himself in the process, learning as much as possible by studying film and consulting with coaches from smaller schools to the NFL.
While it hasn't been an enormous adjustment, Partridge had to approach safeties from a different perspective — looking at spacing and route combinations versus linebacker-focused protections and containing the run game.
Ann Arbor — Devin Bush Jr. received a curious text on his cell phone in January.
"'Yo, who is this?'" Bush said the text read. "And I'm like, 'How are you going to text my phone and ask me who is this? Yeah, this is Devin.'"
It was Ben Herbert, Michigan's new director of strength and conditioning, and that was his icebreaker.
Michigan is coming off a largely disappointing 8-5 season in Jim Harbaugh's third season as head coach, and still, Vegas oddsmakers and early preseason prognostications think the Wolverines will bounce back in a big way.
Here are three top returnees, three big losses and three key incoming freshmen for Michigan.
TOP THREE RETURNEES
DE Rashan Gary: Gary will be a junior and an important piece to the defensive line, especially in terms of leadership with the departure of senior tackle Maurice Hurst. Gary is an incredibly gifted athlete and finished with 67 tackles, including 12 for loss. He also had six sacks and seven quarterback hurries.
Tampa, Fla. – Devin Bush Sr. is getting his feet wet as a college football assistant coach and may very well earn a permanent spot on Michigan's coaching staff.
With the departure of safeties coach Brian Smith to Rice as defensive coordinator, Bush has been filling in during bowl practices. Michigan is preparing to face South Carolina in the Outback Bowl on New Year's Day.
Livonia — Before Devin Bush became a grizzled veteran sophomore linebacker, he learned the ropes from his upperclassmen teammates.
"The man right there," Bush pointed to the next table before Michigan's annual football bust Tuesday night. "Mike McCray. He took me under his wing when I first got here."
Bush led the Wolverines with 94 tackles this season, but he credits McCray, along with several former Wolverines for getting him to this point and shaping his approach to the game on so many levels.
Michigan defensive tackle Maurice Hurst is the only Wolverine to make The Associated Press All-Big Ten first team, released Wednesday.
Hurst was a unanimous All-Big Ten first-team selection by Big Ten coaches and media last week. He finished the season with the second-most quarterback hurries among all FBS interior defensive players, according to Pro Football Focus. He finished the season with 59 tackles, including 13.5 for loss and five sacks.

LOCATION: Tampa, Florida
Michigan: LB Devin Bush is the team's leading tackler with 94. The sophomore's 9.5 tackles for loss include 5.0 sacks. He also has an interception.
South Carolina: QB Jake Bentley is 12-7 as a starter and has completed 63.6 percent of his career passes, which is second in school history.
Michigan fifth-year senior defensive tackle Maurice Hurst is a unanimous first-team All-Big Ten selection by coaches and media, who vote on the awards.
The conference announced All-Big Ten teams for defense and special teams on Tuesday.
Ten of Michigan's 11 defensive starters earned All-Big Ten recognition, including Hurst, and sophomores Rashan Gary and Devin Bush, who were All-Big Ten first team by the coaches.
Wisconsin, Michigan get 3 defenders on All-Big Ten 1st team
ROSEMONT, Ill. (AP) — Wisconsin and Michigan have three players apiece on the coaches' All-Big Ten defense first team.
The conference began announcing its postseason awards on Tuesday. The coaches' All-Big Ten offense will be announced Wednesday and individual awards on Thursday.
Madison, Wis. — It set up as a defensive struggle in the first half, mostly with Wisconsin finding it difficult to move against Michigan's third-ranked defense.
The game was 7-7 after the first half.
But in the second half of the Badgers' 24-10 victory over Michigan, the Wolverines' defense gave up critical third-down conversions on back-to-back touchdown drives, while Michigan's offense could get nothing done against the Badgers' top-rated defense.
6:30 p.m., Michigan Stadium TV: Ch. 9 Radio: 100.3-FM Line: Michigan by 15andfrac12; Series: Michigan leads 74-25-3
About the Wolverines: Michigan is retooling in coach Jim Harbaughs third year. The defense ranks No. 1 in the Big Ten and fourth nationally, but total offense (374.8 yards per game) is ninth in the Big Ten. With Wisconsin and Ohio State remaining, the Wolverines (6-2, 3-2 Big Ten) cant afford a third hiccup.
BYU Football: Cougars looking to reverse second and third quarter trends
Earlier this season, highly favored Michigan trailed lowly Purdue 10-7 at halftime. The Wolverines raced out after halftime and outscored the Boilermakers 21-0 for a 28-10 win.
Their secret halftime adjustment?
“Just hunker down, it was nothing crazy on the playbook side,” Michigan linebacker Devin Bush Jr. said after the game. “It was just, ‘We see what they got, now let’s go bust them in their mouth.’ ”
Hoosiers looking to end drought against No. 17 Michigan
No. 17 Michigan (4-1, 1-1 Big Ten) at Indiana (3-2, 0-2), Saturday, Noon ET (ABC).
Line: Michigan by 7.
Series record: Michigan leads 56-9.
WHAT'S AT STAKE
One loss won't necessarily knock the Wolverines out of the Big Ten title chase or the playoff picture. Two losses in conference play would almost doom both hopes. The Hoosiers nearly pulled off a massive upset two years ago. If they can do it this time, it would be the breakthrough win this program has been talking about all season.

The Associated Press has been honoring college football's best with an All-America team since 1925. This season, the AP released its first preseason All-America team and will also weigh-in with a midseason team before the full, three-team All-America selections are unveiled in December. The third installment of the weekly All-America watch features the next Michigan defensive star, Christian McCaffrey's replacement at Stanford and Florida's special weapon:
Retooled Michigan defense looks OK without 8 NFL draft picks
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — That defense for 11th-ranked Michigan looks very familiar, even with all those first-time starters.
