WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — Michigan freshman Jordan Poole drained a long 3-pointer at the buzzer after Houston squandered a chance to lock up a spot in the Sweet 16, giving the third-seeded Wolverines a heart-stopping 64-63 victory in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday night.

No. 21 Houston routs UCF in AAC Tournament quarterfinal
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Houston was determined not to repeat its recent failures in the American Athletic Conference Tournament.
The Cougars used a dominant performance against UCF to erase the sting of two consecutive first-round losses.
Galen Robinson scored 18 points, Rob Gray had 17 points, six assists and five rebounds, and No. 21 Houston beat UCF 84-56 on Friday night.
Rob Gray, No. 25 Houston hold off UConn 81-71
HOUSTON (AP) — The Houston Cougars needed a reality check heading into tournament season.
They got one Sunday, but got the win, too.
Rob Gray scored 30 points, Corey Davis Jr. had 17 and No. 25 Houston held off UConn 81-71.
"I thought it was good to have this one today," Houston coach Kelvin Sampson said. "Had we come in here and won by 30, everybody would be slapping us on the back, but this is a little bit of a reality check. This is what tournament basketball is going to be like."
Houston leads start to finish in 80-59 rout over Temple
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Corey Davis Jr. scored 20 points, Devin Davis had a double-double and Houston rolled to its fifth straight victory with an 80-59 win against Temple on Sunday.
Houston (21-5, 11-3 American) raced to a 15-0 lead with Davis making three 3-pointers and baskets from Breaon Brady, Rob Gray and Davis. Temple didn't score until 13:34 on a dunk by Obi Enechionyia. The Owls missed their first six shots and turned it over four times.
Houston ends No. 5 Cincinnati’s 16-game win streak, 67-62
HOUSTON (AP) — Defense has been Cincinnati's cornerstone this season.
The Bearcats defense couldn't make up for a second half offensive slump Thursday night, and Houston made Cincinnati pay.
Corey Davis Jr. and Devin Davis each scored 16 points, and Houston beat No. 5 Cincinnati 67-62 to snap the nation's longest winning streak at 16 games.
"You never want to lose, but you learn some things from the loss," Cincinnati forward Kyle Washington said.
Houston dissects cold-shooting Tulane 73-42
HOUSTON (AP) — Devin Davis scored 16 points, Armoni Brooks had a double-double and Houston throttled Tulane 73-42 on Sunday to stay in a tie for second place in the American Athletic Conference standings with Wichita State.
Houston hosts conference leader, and sixth-ranked, Cincinnati (23-2, 12-0) on Thursday.
Brooks finished with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
The Cougars capped a 10-0 run with Fabian White Jr.'s dunk that made it 19-7 with 11:49 before intermission and the Cougars never looked back.
Gray scores 20 in Houston’s 69-65 victory at UCF
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Rob Gray scored 20 points, Devin Davis had key points late and Houston held off UCF 69-65 on Saturday.
Davis split two UCF defenders and laid the ball in just before the shot clock ran out for a 65-61 lead with a minute to go and added two free throws with 34 seconds remaining for a six-point lead.
Gray was 7-of-15 shooting with five assists. Corey Davis Jr. had three 3-pointers and 15 points while Breaon Brady grabbed nine rebounds.
No. 7 Wichita St loses 2nd straight, falls to Houston 73-59
HOUSTON (AP) — Seventh-ranked Wichita State lost its second straight game as Houston beat a Top 10 team for the first time in 22 years, with Rob Gray scoring 24 points in a 73-59 victory Saturday.
Wichita State (15-4, 5-2 American Athletic Conference) fell to SMU 83-78 on Wednesday. The Shockers shot a season-low 33 percent and committed 18 turnovers in this latest loss.
Brady scores 21, Houston holds off Temple for 76-73 win
HOUSTON (AP) — Breaon Brady scored a career-high 21 points, on 8-of-9 shooting, and grabbed nine rebounds and Houston held off a late rally by Temple for a 76-73 win on Saturday night.
Brady, a JUCO transfer, left the game midway through the second half with an apparent ankle injury.
Houston tops S. Florida 79-60 behind Davis and Brooks
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Corey Davis Jr., scored 15 points and Armoni Brooks scored 14 and Houston defeated South Florida 79-60 Thursday for the Cougars' third straight win.
Rob Gray added 11 points for Houston and Devin Davis had 10. Houston (11-2) now has won 10 of 11. South Florida (7-7) saw its three-game win streak come to an end. Justin Brown led the Bulls with 16 points, David Collins, 15 and Isaiah Manderson 10.
Houston pulls away from Prairie View A&M for 92-72 victory
HOUSTON (AP) — Armoni Brooks scored a career-high 24 points, Corey Davis Jr. added 15 and Houston beat Prairie View A&M 92-72 on Sunday.
Houston led 44-39 at halftime before the Panthers went on a 10-4 run out of the break with Dennis Jones scoring half their points. The game stayed even until Brooks made three 3s in less than two minutes and the Cougars never trailed again.
Epps leads LSU past Houston 80-77
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Aaron Epps scored a career-high 26 points and Tremont Waters blocked a game-tying 3-point attempt in the final seconds as LSU defeated Houston 80-77 on Wednesday.
Epps, who also grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds, put the Tigers (5-2) ahead by six points on a three-point play with 57 seconds remaining. Rob Gray pulled the Cougars within three points at 80-77 on a 3-pointer less than ten seconds later.
Gray, Davis lead Houston to 77-58 win over Saint Louis
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Rob Gray was 13 of 13 from the free-throw line and finished with 24 points and Devin Davis scored 17 on 7-of-8 shooting to help Houston beat Saint Louis 77-58 on Saturday night for its seventh win in a row.
It is Houston's longest win streak since the Cougars (8-1) won seven straight in the 2012-13 season. They beat the Billikens in St. Louis for the first time since 1990 and snapped a six-game skid against their former Conference USA rival.
Houston beats Fairfield 88-66 for 7-1 start
HOUSTON (AP) — Rob Gray scored 20 points, Corey Davis Jr. added 16 points with five 3-pointers and Houston beat Fairfield 88-66 on Wednesday.
Davis made four of his 3s in the first half and scored 13 points to help Houston build a 41-26 advantage. Gray had 12 points in the half as the Cougars shot 56 percent, including 6 of 8 3-pointers.
Houston dominates Arkansas 91-65
HOUSTON (AP) — Devin Davis had this game circled on his calendar for a long time.
After suffering a deep cut on his finger that required stitches in last year's 84-72 loss at Arkansas, the Houston senior forward said he had revenge on his mind on Saturday night.
Davis scored a career-high 28 points to lead Houston to a commanding 91-65 win over Arkansas.
Houston rolls to 97-58 win over Incarnate Word
HOUSTON (AP) — Wes VanBeck and Rob Gray scored 16 points apiece and led six players in double figures as Houston rolled to a 97-58 win over Incarnate Word on Saturday night.
Fabian White Jr. added 14 points and 12 rebounds for the Cougars (4-1). Corey Davis Jr. also had 14 points and Devin Davis and Armoni Brooks had 10 apiece. The team averaged 53 percent from the field compared to 32 percent for Incarnate Word.
Corey Davis’ putback wins it for Houston, 68-66
LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) — Corey Davis' putback with 0.3 seconds left gave Houston a 68-66 victory over Liberty on Saturday in a consolation semifinal in the Paradise Jam.
Devin Davis missed a straightaway jumper with three seconds left but Davis was there to put in the game-winner.
The Cougars (2-1) will play in the consolation semifinals while Liberty will be in the seventh-place game on Sunday.
