Barnes scores season-high 28 as Mavericks beat Nets 119-113
DALLAS (AP) — Devin Harris didn't return to the game when the Dallas guard was replaced shortly after scoring eight straight points to break a fourth-quarter tie.
It might have had something to do with him getting two of his game-high four steals in the same span.
Harrison Barnes scored a season-high 28 points, Harris did the same with 18 — sparked by his energetic surge — and the Dallas Mavericks beat the Brooklyn Nets 119-113 on Wednesday night.
DALLAS (AP) — Devin Harris is returning to the Dallas Mavericks for the third time after signing a $2.4 million free agent contract.
The Mavericks announced the deal with the 14-year veteran on Wednesday. His contract is for the veteran minimum.
Mudiay to Knicks as Nuggets add Devin Harris in 3-team swap
DALLAS (AP) — Emmanuel Mudiay is headed to the New York Knicks, with Denver adding guard Devin Harris from Dallas on Thursday in a three-team deadline trade that the Nuggets hope will give them needed experience for a playoff push.
The rebuilding Mavericks will get Doug McDermott from the Knicks, who are fading from postseason contention and just lost All-Star forward Kristaps Porzingis to a season-ending knee injury.
Dennis Smith Jr. has triple-double, Mavs beat Pelicans
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The New Orleans Pelicans entered the game as the NBA's top 3-point shooting team. They couldn't match the Dallas Mavericks' long-range shooting Friday night.
Rookie guard Dennis Smith Jr. had his first career triple-double and the Mavericks made a franchise-record 22 3-pointers in a 128-120 victory.
"We got into a shot-making groove," Dallas coach Rick Carlisle said.
Smith had 21 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. He was 5 of 7 from 3-point range and 8 of 12 overall.
Barea, Mavericks pound Clippers 108-82
DALLAS (AP) — Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks shot their way to a milestone victory for coach Rick Carlisle.
Nowitzki made five of Dallas' 16 3-pointers, and the Mavericks beat the Los Angeles Clippers 108-82 on Saturday for Carlisle's 700th career win.
"It just means that I've been very fortunate," Carlisle said. "As time goes on, I count those things even less. It's day to day and trying to improve the situation."

Mavericks guard Dennis Smith Jr. out with knee injury
DALLAS (AP) — Dallas Mavericks rookie point guard Dennis Smith Jr. missed Friday's game against the Sacramento Kings with swelling in his left knee.
Smith, the ninth pick in the NBA draft out of North Carolina State, had 16 points and 10 assists in the Mavericks' season-opening loss to the Atlanta Hawks.
Smith participated in the Mavericks' shootaround on Friday morning and was a late scratch.
Devin Harris granted leave of absence after brother’s death
DALLAS (AP) — Dallas Mavericks guard Devin Harris has been granted a leave of absence after his brother was killed in a car crash.
A Dallas police statement said 38-year-old Bruce Harris died Thursday afternoon from injuries suffered in a crash. Police say Harris and another man were in a disabled vehicle when a car driven by a 23-year-old man slammed into it from behind. The car with Bruce Harris inside was set on fire.
Brother of Mavericks guard Devin Harris killed in crash
DALLAS (AP) — The brother of Dallas Mavericks guard Devin Harris was fatally injured in an early morning crash on a Dallas expressway.
A Dallas police statement says 38-year-old Bruce Harris died Thursday afternoon of injuries from the 1:40 a.m. Thursday crash on U.S. 75 just north of Loop 12 in North Dallas. Officer Tamika Dameron, a police spokeswoman, said Harris and another man were in a disabled vehicle when it was slammed from behind and set on fire by a car with two 23-year-old men.
Mavs leave Carlisle and veterans players at home
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Dallas Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle did not make the trip to Orlando for a preseason game against the Magic due to illness.
Dallas officials said associate head coach Melvin Hunt will stand in for Carlisle on Thursday night.
Carlisle was not alone in not making the trip. Veterans Dirk Nowitzki, Wesley Matthews, Harrison Barnes, Nerlens Noel, J.J. Barea, Josh McRoberts and Devin Harris also will not be in Orlando to face the Magic.

Harris was punished Friday for aggressively pursuing official Ben Taylor and failing to leave the court in a timely manner in the 121-118 loss to the Pelicans.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Dallas guard Devin Harris has been ejected from Wednesday night's game against New Orleans after angrily protesting calls made by official Ben Taylor.
Harris was assessed two quick technical fouls by Taylor, the first after Harris protested Taylor's decision to whistle him for a personal foul when he collided with Pelicans' guard Jordan Crawford.
Barnes leads Mavericks to 113-105 win over Wizards
DALLAS (AP) — After a disappointing 2016, the Dallas Mavericks started the new year off on the right foot.
Harrison Barnes scored 26 points and Deron Williams added 21 as the Mavericks rallied to beat the Washington Wizards 113-105 on Tuesday night.
Devin Harris had 17 points and Seth Curry 16 for Dallas, which went 10-24 before the New Year. Williams, Harris and Curry all hit four 3-pointers as Dallas made 17-of-32 from long range.
