As our media environment blurs, confusion often reigns
NEW YORK (AP) — A generation ago, the likes of Walter Cronkite, Peter Jennings and Diane Sawyer were the heroes of television news. Now the biggest stars are arguably Sean Hannity and Rachel Maddow.
Notice the difference? Cronkite, Jennings and Sawyer reported the news. Hannity and Maddow talk about the news, and occasionally make it. But you never doubt how they feel about it.
PHOENIX (AP) — Arizona State University is awarding its 2018 Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism to CNN anchor Anderson Cooper.
He will receive the award on Oct. 17 in Phoenix from the university's Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
Cooper says he's honored and humbled to receive the award because Cronkite "sparked my interest in journalism at a young age."
David Muir, anchor of ‘ABC World News Tonight,’ to be UW-Madison commencement speaker
David Muir, an accomplished journalist and anchor of "ABC World News Tonight," will provide advice and insight to UW-Madison graduates during the spring commencement ceremony.
Muir has been chosen as the keynote speaker of the May 12 ceremony. He began as anchor and managing editor of the evening ABC news television program in 2014 after taking over for former anchor Diane Sawyer.
Muir also co-anchors ABC's "20/20" investigative news broadcast with Elizabeth Vargas.

NEW YORK (AP) — ABC News says Ashley Judd will sit down with anchor Diane Sawyer for her first television interview since the actress-activist went public with allegations against movie executive Harvey Weinstein.
The interview will air Thursday on ABC News platforms including "Good Morning America," ''World News Tonight with David Muir" and "Nightline."

NEW YORK (AP) — Debra Messing will be honored May 6 at the GLAAD Media Awards as a champion against discrimination.
The media LGBTQ advocacy organization announced Monday it will give the "Will & Grace" actress the Excellence in Media award at its 28th annual ceremony, to be hosted by Ross Mathews. Previous winners include Robert De Niro, Russell Simmons, Glenn Close and Diane Sawyer.

NEW YORK (AP) — ABC News' Diane Sawyer is reprising her interview with Caitlyn Jenner, with the former Olympic gold medalist slated to talk about her first couple of years of life as a woman.
The former Bruce Jenner spoke to Sawyer in a 2015 special that reached 17.1 million viewers and won a DuPont-Columbia journalism award.
Jenner has a book, "The Secrets of My Life," that is to be released four days after her new interview with Sawyer airs. The "20/20" special is scheduled for April 21.
YANKTON, S.D. (AP) — A South Dakota judge has dismissed ABC anchor Diane Sawyer from a defamation lawsuit over the network's reports on a beef product that critics dubbed "pink slime."
First Judicial Circuit Court Judge Cheryle Gering granted Sawyer's motions for summary judgment last month, dismissing her from the case also against ABC and correspondent Jim Avila. A trial is scheduled to start in June.

NEW YORK (AP) — Two broadcast journalists expected to have roles in their networks' election coverage — Gwen Ifill and Diane Sawyer — were instead missing from their PBS and ABC teams.
PBS announced last week that Ifill, the "NewsHour" co-anchor with Judy Woodruff, would be taking unspecified time off for health reasons. Ifill, 61, was out for two months last spring. She has not revealed the nature of her illness.
