Mayo and Hobbs help E Kentucky come back to beat SE Missouri
RICHMOND, Ky. (AP) — Nick Mayo had 25 points and 9 rebounds and JacQuess Hobbs added 16 points as Eastern Kentucky came back to beat Southeast Missouri State 91-88 on Thursday night.
There were six ties and 13 lead changes. Hobbs and Dujuanta Weaver made five free throws in the final seconds to close out the game for the Colonels (11-19, 5-12 Ohio Valley Conference), who swept the season series.
Eastern Kentucky upsets Tennessee State 72-59
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Nick Mayo scored 25 on 9-of-11 shooting, Dillon Avare came off the bench to score a season-high 15 and Eastern Kentucky upset Tennessee State 72-59 on Saturday night.
Boyd has hot hand, Eastern Kentucky tops UT Martin 78-70
MARTIN, Tenn. (AP) — Dedric Boyd went off for a career-high 31 points on 9-of-12 shooting, including 5 of 8 from 3-point range, and added three steals as Eastern Kentucky led for all but four minutes to defeat Tennessee Martin 78-70 Thursday night.
Boyd opened the game with a 3-pointer and didn't shoot from inside the arc until seven minutes remained in the first half.
SIU-Edwardsville fends off E. Kentucky 85-82
RICHMOND, Ky. (AP) — Jalen Henry scored a career-high 35 points on 13-of-18 shooting and SIU-Edwardsville ended a three-game skid and beat Eastern Kentucky 85-82 Thursday night.
E. Kentucky uses balanced attack to dump Norfolk St. 83-66
RICHMOND, Ky. (AP) — Jackson Davis scored 15 points and Nick Mayo had 14 points and Eastern Kentucky downed Norfolk State 83-66 on Monday night for its second consecutive win.
Mayo scored the Colonels' first six points, and his third jump shot gave Eastern Kentucky a 6-5 lead it never gave up. EKU then went on a 17-7 run with Dujuanta Weaver, Peyton Broughton and Dillon Avare each burying 3-pointers.
McCall helps Tennessee State pull away late to beat EKU
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tahjere McCall scored eight of his 20 points in the final two minutes to help Tennessee State pull away and beat Eastern Kentucky 68-66 on Saturday night.
Zach Charles' putback pulled Eastern Kentucky to a tie at 57 with 2:25 remaining. McCall then converted a 3-point play, made a layup and 3 of 4 free throws to give the Tigers a 65-60 lead with 25 seconds to play. Darreon Reddick split a pair of free throws to stretch the Tigers' lead to 66-60.
Morehead State notches season-best fourth straight win
RICHMOND, Ky. (AP) — Xavier Moon had 16 points and nine rebounds, DeJuan Marrero scored 14 points and Morehead State defeated Eastern Kentucky 67-62 on Saturday night.
Miguel Dicent added 10 points and six assists for the Eagles (13-12, 9-3 Ohio Valley), who won a season-best fourth straight game with their seventh victory in eight contests. Morehead State outrebounded EKU 46-27 with 16 on the offensive glass leading to a 12-2 advantage on second-chance points.
Mobley, UT Martin beat Eastern Kentucky 85-68
MARTIN, Tenn. (AP) — Jacolby Mobley had 21 points, Javier Martinez and Chandler Rowe each had a double-double and UT Martin beat Eastern Kentucky 85-68 on Saturday night.
Martinez had 18 points and 12 rebounds and Rowe had 10 points and 10 boards for the Skyhawks (17-9, 7-4 Ohio Valley Conference). Kedar Edwards added 14 points, eight rebounds and six assists and Matthew Butler scored 11.
Eastern Kentucky dominates from start to finish versus Berea
RICHMOND, Ky. (AP) — Nick Mayo scored 19 points on an efficient 5-of-8 shooting and Eastern Kentucky had no trouble cruising by Division III Berea College 92-64 on Saturday night.
Mayo also added nine rebounds, five assists, and hit 8 of 9 at the free throw line. Zach Charles finished with 14 points while Dillon Avare and Marlon Adams each added 11 for the Colonels (3-4).
Eastern Kentucky beats Idaho State 91-82 in overtime
CANCUN, Mexico (AP) — Nick Mayo scored 21 points, including five in overtime, and Eastern Kentucky defeated Idaho State 91-82 at the Cancun Challenge on Tuesday.
Mayo opened the overtime with a 3-pointer and Dillon Avare dropped in two treys of his own and Isaac McGlone another before Mayo added a tip-in for an 85-80 lead. Zach Charles then made six straight free throws.
