BREMEN, Germany (AP) — Werder Bremen defeated Cologne 3-1 at home to ease its relegation worries in the third of the Bundesliga's unpopular Monday night games.
Maximilian Eggestein sealed the win in the last minute to lift Bremen five points clear of the relegation zone and leave Cologne on the bottom, eight points from safety with eight games to play.
Batshuayi stars on Dortmund debut with 2 goals and an assist
BERLIN (AP) — Michy Batshuayi scored two goals and set up another on his Bundesliga debut for Borussia Dortmund in a 3-2 win over last-place Cologne on Friday.
"It was the first game. It was difficult," Batshuayi said. "The important thing is that we won."
The Belgian forward, who joined Dortmund on loan from Chelsea on Wednesday, scored his first goal 10 minutes before the break, blasting the ball past goalkeeper Timo Horn after an assist by Jeremy Toljan.
Winless Cologne wastes 3-goal lead to lose 4-3 to Freiburg
BERLIN (AP) — Nils Petersen scored with two late penalties — one in the 90th minute and another in injury time — as Freiburg came from three goals down to beat Cologne 4-3 in the Bundesliga on Sunday.
"We were patient to the end. Football writes such stories," said Petersen, who also scored in the first half to start Freiburg's comeback. "It's bitter for Cologne. I'm sorry for the club, too."

Dominique Heintz thought he'd earned at least a point for Cologne, and it could have been more when referee Benjamin Cortus awarded a penalty after Cologne substitute Sehrou Guirassy fell in a challenge with Dennis Aogo.

BERLIN (AP) — Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Maximilian Philipp and the video referee all struck twice as Borussia Dortmund routed Cologne in the Bundesliga on Sunday.
Nothing went right for the visitors in the 5-0 defeat, with Cologne now conceding 12 league goals in four defeats. Dortmund remains the only team yet to concede.

Hamburg paid an immediate price for the American's dismissal with Anthony Modeste grabbing the first of his three goals three minutes afterward.
