Yuba-Sutter poet laureate invites residents to share their best poems
Jonathan Kinsman fell in love with creating poetry in high school. He met his wife as a result of his words.
He wants others to feel that love of the art form.
Kinsman, the Yuba-Sutter poet laureate, is inviting residents to share their best original poems – dealing with self-identity and diversity – as part of National Poetry Month (April).
Yuba Sutter Arts – for which Kinsman is a board member – will be hosting events with poetry readings throughout the month.
"A long, long time ago …" is how the song began. The classic Don McLean hit memorialized "The Day the Music Died" as a riddle within a song for all the ages to hear. "American Pie" is a history of America and the rock 'n' roll movement, and might be the most memorable song of the era.

Mount Rushmore float to appear again in Turkey Day parade
PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — This year's "Mount Rushmore's American Pride" float in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade will feature legendary rhythm and blues singer Smokey Robinson.
This will be the eighth year the South Dakota Department of Tourism float will appear in the New York City parade. The float features the iconic faces at Mount Rushmore National Memorial in western South Dakota.
Other famous singers have appeared on the float in past years, including Neil Diamond and Don McLean.
Snow College choirs to present ‘Bards and poets, songs with poetic flair’

CAMDEN, Maine (AP) — Domestic assault and terrorizing charges against "American Pie" singer-songwriter Don McLean have been dismissed after he met the terms of a plea agreement, including staying out of trouble for a year.
The charges in Maine were dismissed Thursday. McLean also paid a $3,000 fine to settle three other charges that remain on his record: domestic violence criminal threatening; criminal restraint and criminal mischief.

JANESVILLE, Wis. (AP) — The estranged stepfather of a Wisconsin man suspected of stealing guns and threatening attacks in an anti-government manifesto sent to the White House on Tuesday urged the fugitive to surrender.
Don McLean said his stepson, Joseph Jakubowski, has never had a good relationship with police and that he and his wife are concerned for his safety.

Iconic coffeehouse resumes hosting concerts after upgrades
