Will experience _ and lack of it _ be Super Bowl difference?
ATLANTA (AP) — The idea that experience pays off in the most-pressurized situations sports offer is nothing new. Does it apply to the Super Bowl in general, and this one specifically?
Recent history will tell us not really. The Super Bowl thing was something novel for virtually all of the Eagles last year, and they knocked off the perennial contender and frequent AFC champion Patriots.

Super Bowl berths on the line in conference title games
The Los Angeles Rams are back inside the stadium where they lost for the first time this season, looking for retribution and a Super Bowl berth as they face the New Orleans Saints in the NFC championship game.
The Superdome is coming alive for the last time this football season as predominantly Saints fans arrive for just the second NFC title game to be held at the site of seven Super Bowls.
Aqib Talib is cornerstone of Rams’ efforts to rein in Saints
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (AP) — The Los Angeles Rams realize they're heading into one of the NFL's most intimidating environments when they visit the top-seeded New Orleans Saints in the deafening Superdome for the NFC championship game.
Leave it to Aqib Talib, their voluble veteran cornerback, to remind his teammates about the upside of the New Orleans fans' famed investment in the game.
The gumbo the New Orleans Saints are cooking up is flavored with lots of passes from Drew Brees to Michael Thomas, plenty of runs by Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram, and enough dashes of defense to negate the high-powered offense of the Los Angeles Rams.
Always learning, Rams’ Goff seeks results in NFC title game
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (AP) — Although Jared Goff is uncomfortable being overly nosy when he's around the NFL's best quarterbacks, he kept a close eye on Drew Brees while they were together at the Pro Bowl in Orlando last year.
The most prolific passer in NFL history had no problem sharing aspects of his mental approach and game-day preparation with Goff, who was eager for knowledge a few weeks after taking a loss in his first career playoff game for the Los Angeles Rams.
Brees first game at 40 his biggest in 9 years
METAIRIE, La. (AP) — Drew Brees is about to play his first game as a 40-year-old — and his biggest game in nine years.
When the Saints host the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC championship game in New Orleans on Sunday, it'll be the first time Brees, who turned 40 on Tuesday, has played for the conference title since the 2009 season. Brees turned 31 shortly before the Saints defeated Minnesota en route to the franchise's lone Super Bowl.

Tom Brady versus Patrick Mahomes. Drew Brees against Jared Goff.
Two high-profile rematches with the Super Bowl on the line.

Saints WR Thomas unstoppable force for Eagles defense
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — As Drew Brees sermonized his teammates in a pregame huddle, Michael Thomas hung on every word from his quarterback.
Thomas seemed mesmerized as Brees pumped up the Saints, never taking his eyes off the Saints star.
Then, Thomas ripped apart Philadelphia's defense with 12 receptions for a team playoff record of 171 yards and the winning touchdown as New Orleans beat the defending champion Eagles 20-14 Sunday to advance to the NFC championship game.
Saints rally past Eagles 20-14, will host NFC title game
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — When the New Orleans Saints finally found their rhythm, they marched one step closer to the Super Bowl.
Using a dominant ball-control offense and a few gambles that paid off, the Saints got two touchdown passes from Drew Brees and two interceptions from Marcus Lattimore in a 20-14 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.
Davis parlayed Saints deal into career year, playoff debut
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — When Demario Davis reflected on his decision to sign with New Orleans last offseason, the reasons the linebacker listed had little to do with the style of defense the Saints played or even the role the club envisioned for him.
Mainly, he said, it was the opportunity to play on the same team as Drew Brees — who Davis sees as the game's greatest quarterback — and the likelihood of experiencing the playoffs for the first time in his seven-year career.
Backups, castoffs, youngsters step in Eagles’ secondary
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — When injuries ravaged the secondary, the Philadelphia Eagles turned to inexperienced guys and castoffs.
The no-names are making themselves known.
Cre'von LeBlanc, Tre Sullivan, Rasul Douglas and Avonte Maddox have stepped up in a big way down the stretch, helping the Eagles (10-7) win four straight games and advance to an NFC divisional playoff at New Orleans (13-3) on Sunday.
Philly has St. Nick but New Orleans has lots of Saints
The Philadelphia Eagles have St. Nick, and he hasn't let them down in the clutch. The problem on Sunday is that New Orleans has a lot of Saints — and a stronger team.
Nick Foles has been nothing short of superb in replacing Carson Wentz, first in the 2017 season when he guided Philly to its first NFL championship since 1960. And now, with Wentz again injured, Foles helped the Eagles slalom their way to an NFC wild-card berth.
Recently banged-up Saints line showing signs of healing
METAIRIE, La. (AP) — When Saints starting right guard Larry Warford came out of the trainer's room, he scooped a mini basketball off the floor of the locker room and casually executed a quick, spinning dribble around a teammate.
Cowboys stuff Seahawks’ run in wild-card win; it’s pass next
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — The young Dallas defense stuffed the NFL's No. 1 rushing offense in a wild-card win over the Seattle Seahawks.
Now it's time for the Cowboys to take on either the league's all-time leader in yards passing in Drew Brees of New Orleans, or this year's fifth-best passing offense in Jared Goff and the Los Angeles Rams. The divisional round game will be next weekend.
Saints’ Brees awed teammates again with completion rate
METAIRIE, La. (AP) — It's one thing to throw passes as accurately as any quarterback ever has, which the New Orleans Saints' Drew Brees arguably does.
His pinpoint control was even documented in a "Sport Science" episode in which Brees' ability to hit a target compared favorably to that of an Olympic archer.
Bears’ Trubisky tries to steer clear of playoff mistakes
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — It hasn't been a streak of accuracy on a level with Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees or Tom Brady. Nevertheless, Chicago Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky has eliminated interceptions over his past three starts.
Whether Trubisky can continue making good decisions and throws in his first playoff game at Soldier Field against the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles could go a long way toward determining if the Bears' season continues.

Steelers frustrated by latest costly, close loss
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Desperately needing a win, Pittsburgh coach Mike Tomlin went for the jugular with a fake punt call late in the fourth quarter against the Saints.
Upback Roosevelt Nix came up just short, and so did the Steelers in an excruciating, infuriating 31-28 loss Sunday that may strangle their playoff hopes.
Saints narrowly upend Steelers and take top NFC seed
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Drew Brees found a receiver who hadn't played most of the season to sustain a late touchdown drive. The Saints' defense found a way to force two fumbles in the fourth quarter. And New Orleans' punt-return unit stopped a fake punt less than a yard short of a conversion that might have helped Pittsburgh protect a late lead.
Chiefs’ Mahomes picked by AP writers as top QB in 2018
Patrick Mahomes has dazzled NFL audiences with no-look passes, left-handed throws and stellar performances in just his first full season as a starter.
The dynamic Mahomes has the Kansas City Chiefs (11-3) leading the AFC and he's already earning top honors.
Saints seek top NFC seed, while Steelers eye division title
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — While Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan stressed that New Orleans doesn't fear going on the road in the playoffs, he readily acknowledged the advantages of staying in the Superdome.

"That would be huge," said Jordan, referencing what he calls "dome-field advantage."
Panthers QB Heinicke out to prove he’s no joke vs. Falcons
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — It wasn't long after Taylor Heinicke was named the Panthers' starting quarterback for Sunday's game against the Falcons that the jokes began rolling in.
Panthers center Ryan Kalil laughed that he might have to bring down his shotgun snaps so they don't go flying over the 6-foot QB's head. Running back Christian McCaffrey teased that he's glad he won't look so small in the backfield anymore now that Heinicke has taken over for the 6-foot-5, 245-pound Cam Newton.
FANTASY PLAYS: Players to start and sit during championship
Week 16 will decide most fantasy football championships — one weekend where owners will either feel the elation of a mission accomplished or fall short of a goal they've pursued since late summer.
The slate has one potential must-stack affair, Steelers-Saints, and won't be too hurt by the weather. If there is a theme to this week, it's that several of the league's top defenses collide with high-end offensive attacks.
Saints cite miscues for recent scoring slippage
METAIRIE, La. (AP) — Drew Brees dismisses the notion that the Saints' recent downturn in scoring is a sign of vulnerability.

Saints back on top of AP Pro32 poll; Chargers climb to No. 2
NEW YORK (AP) — Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints are feeling quite at home on top of the NFL.
The Saints enter the final two weeks of the regular season with the best record in the league at 12-2. They finish the regular season with two games in the Superdome and are a win away from clinching home-field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs.
And the Saints are back on top of the latest AP Pro32 poll .
Saints keep finding ways to grind out wins, stay atop NFC
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — On a night when the high-powered offense was stuck in neutral, the New Orleans Saints still found a way to grind out a 12-9 win over Carolina behind their ever-improving defense.
That could bode well for these Saints (12-2) as they prepare to make a run at the Super Bowl.
Saints’ D puts clamps on Newton in 12-9 win over Panthers
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints still have one of the league's top-scoring offenses, but lately it's the defense that's been carrying the NFL's most complete team.
On a night when Brees and the offense couldn't get much going and made some uncharacteristic mistakes, New Orleans put the clamps on Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers in a 12-9 victory on Monday night, moving the Saints into position to lock up home-field advantage in the NFC playoffs.
Saints tackle Terron Armstead out for Panthers game
METAIRIE, La. (AP) — The New Orleans Saints have ruled out left tackle Terron Armstead for Monday night's game at Carolina because of a chest injury.
Armstead is the Saints' second-highest paid offensive player after Drew Brees but has missed the past four games. He has yet to play since returning to practice on a limited basis nearly two weeks ago.
The Saints already have clinched the NFC South title and now are vying for the NFC's top seed.
Gift from Brees: Football for helping set NFL passing record
METAIRIE, La. (AP) — When Drew Brees became the NFL's career leader in yards passing, he wanted to come up with some sort of gift to thank those who coached him, caught the 6,357 completions it took to set the record and blocked while he threw.
Hill’s unconventional climb making Saints a greater threat
METAIRIE, La. (AP) — Saints third-string quarterback Taysom Hill never envisioned launching his body across the path of a punted ball when he arrived in New Orleans last season to serve as an understudy to record-setting passer Drew Brees.
