Raptors coach Nick Nurse’s 94-year-old mother dies
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Toronto Raptors coach Nick Nurse has rejoined his team in Los Angeles after the death of his 94-year-old mother.
Nurse says his mother, Marcella Nurse, died Monday in Iowa, where he was born in the city of Carroll.
He plans to coach Tuesday night against the Clippers and Wednesday at Golden State before returning to Iowa.
"I'm here because my mother wouldn't want it any other way," Nurse said before the game.
Adams, Westbrook lead Thunder to rout of Pistons

TORONTO (AP) — Kyle Lowry and Jonas Valanciunas spent a dozen years between them developing their games under coach Dwane Casey. Valanciunas had never played for any other NBA head coach before this season.

Drummond had 23 points and 19 rebounds and the Pistons beat the Orlando Magic 103-96 on Wednesday night to snap a five-game losing streak.
Drummond hit 10 of 16 shots, including a buzzer-beating 3-pointer at the end of the first quarter, and nailed both free throw attempts. He scored 19 points in the first half, then set picks and chased down offensive rebounds for teammates in the final two periods.
Embiid scores 39 points in Philadelphia’s win over Detroit
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Philadelphia star big man Joel Embiid revels in the chances to go against Detroit center Andre Drummond. And Embiid doesn't stop going at Drummond when the game is over.
Embiid scored 32 of his 39 points in a dominating first half and had 17 rebounds and then let Drummond know about it afterward, leading the 76ers to a 109-99 victory over the Pistons on Saturday.
Embiid made 10 of 18 field goals and 18 of 23 free throws to help Philadelphia improve to 6-0 at home.

Pistons hope for improvement with new coach, similar roster
DETROIT (AP) — Once the Detroit Pistons traded for Blake Griffin last season, their roster was largely set for the foreseeable future.
When that deal wasn't enough to push the Pistons into the playoffs, they made the easiest changes they could in the offseason, hiring a new coach and overhauling the front office.
Clippers hire Rex Kalamian as assistant
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Clippers have hired Rex Kalamian as an assistant on coach Doc Rivers' staff, bringing him back for a second stint with the team.
He spent the last three seasons as an assistant with Toronto, which didn't promote him when coach Dwane Casey was fired.
Kalamian worked in various jobs for the Clippers from 1992-95 and then was an assistant from 1995-2003.
Pistons hire Grgurich, Nori as assistant coaches
DETROIT (AP) — The Detroit Pistons have hired Tim Grgurich and Micah Nori as assistant coaches.
Grgurich most recently was an assistant for Milwaukee, but he's spent the last 27 years with NBA teams such as Seattle, Portland, Milwaukee, Phoenix, Denver and Dallas. New Pistons coach Dwane Casey overlapped with Grgurich when both were with Seattle from 1994-98.
Grgurich was also the lead assistant for Jerry Tarkanian at UNLV when it won the NCAA title in 1990.
Pistons add Lowe, Sweeney to Casey’s staff
DETROIT (AP) — The Detroit Pistons hired assistant coaches Sidney Lowe and Sean Sweeney on Friday to join Dwane Casey's staff.
Detroit also added Malik Rose as assistant general manager and player development coach DJ Bakker.
