Solid sales of insertable heart monitors and insulin pumps helped propel Abbott Laboratories to Street-beating sales and adjusted earnings during the first quarter, as the company reaffirmed expectations to grow earnings by about 14 percent this year.
Medtronic saw an increase in adjusted earnings for the third quarter, with earnings per share matching analyst expectations after accounting for one-time factors.
Medtronic, which has its operational headquarters in Fridley, said in an earnings release Tuesday that the medical device manufacturer posted nearly $7.37 billion in revenue, an increase of 7 percent compared with last year after adjusting for currency impacts.
Ford’s net income jumps in 3Q on truck sales
DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) — Pickup trucks helped Ford Motor Co. to a strong finish in the third quarter despite lower global sales.
The Dearborn-based automaker's net income rose 63 percent to $1.6 billion in the July-September period. The earnings of 39 cents per share handily beat Wall Street's expectations. Analysts polled by FactSet forecast earnings of 33 cents per share.
Ford's revenue rose 1 percent to $36.45 billion. Automotive revenue of $33.6 billion also topped analysts' forecasts.
