EASTON, Pa. (AP) — A former Lehigh University student charged with poisoning his roommate posted $200,000 cash bail and hoped to be deported to China to avoid prosecution, a prosecutor said Thursday.
Yukai Yang, 23, was back in local custody after authorities learned of the plan and had him returned from federal immigration custody to the Northampton County Jail in Pennsylvania.

EASTON, Pa. (AP) — A judge has sentenced a man to six to 23 months in jail for sexually assaulting a 96-year-old World War II veteran in Pennsylvania.
Arnee Rubi was sentenced last Wednesday after he pleaded guilty in September to indecent assault.
Police say the victim's granddaughter witnessed Rubi abusing him at his home in Hanover Township in May.
Cannady free throws lift Princeton past Lafayette, 81-79

University student accused of poisoning roommate
EASTON, Pa. (AP) — A former Lehigh University student was accused Thursday of poisoning his roommate.
Yukai Yang, a 22-year-old chemistry major, sickened his roommate with thallium and possibly other chemicals, lacing his food and drinks over the course of several months last spring, prosecutors said.
Yang will be charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault and other offenses, according to Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli, who called the allegations "weird and bizarre."

EASTON, Pa. (AP) — Alex Petrie scored 17 points, Paulius Zalys had 15 points and 10 rebounds, and Lafayette defeated Division III Rosemont College 95-54 on Wednesday night.

Alaska man charged in bogus threat against Lafayette College
EASTON, Pa. (AP) — Federal authorities say an Alaska man has been charged in a bogus online threat that disrupted exams and a graduation ceremony at an eastern Pennsylvania college earlier this year.
The U.S. attorney's office announced Wednesday that 30-year-old Gavin Lee Casdorph of Anchorage was charged with "willfully making false threats" on May 5 against Lafayette College.
Man in Alaska arrested for threats to Pennsylvania college
EASTON, Pa. (AP) — Federal authorities have arrested a man in Alaska in connection to online threats made in May to an eastern Pennsylvania college.
A Lafayette College news release says the U.S. Attorney's Office and the FBI plan to host a press conference Wednesday on the details of the arrest in Anchorage.
The campus in Easton rescheduled finals and had room-by-room searches conducted on classrooms in wake of the threats.

Man convicted of serial rape, holding women as ‘sex slaves’
EASTON, Pa. (AP) — A jury has convicted a Pennsylvania man of serial rape and human trafficking charges that could put him in prison for life.
Prosecutors say 31-year-old Seth Mull assaulted four women in the Bethlehem area and Philadelphia in a two-month span last year. The accusers say Mull claimed them as his property, using violence and drugs to exert control. In some cases, prosecutors say Mull sold them to other men. Police found Mull in possession of a written "sex slave contract."
Spellman’s tip-in gives Sacred Heart 64-62 win vs. Lafayette
EASTON, Pa. (AP) — Jare'l Spellman scored a season-high 18 points including a tip-in in the final seconds to give Sacred Heart a 64-62 victory over Lafayette on Sunday.

EASTON, Pa. (AP) — Josh Warren knocked down a 3 in overtime to put Cornell in front for good, sparking the Big Red to a 63-58 win over Lafayette on Wednesday night.
Neither team led by more than three points after intermission until the Big Red put the game away in the closing minutes of overtime when Jack Gordon converted a layup off a missed Warren free throw.
Cops: 2 found dead during welfare check at Pennsylvania home
EASTON, Pa. (AP) — Two people have been found dead in an eastern Pennsylvania home, but authorities say they aren't seeking any suspects in connection with the deaths.
The bodies were found around 5:40 p.m. Tuesday by police who were making a welfare check at the residence in Easton. The names of the victims and further information about them and their deaths have not been disclosed.
Authorities say the investigation into the deaths is ongoing, but they declined further comment.

Woman, 83, struck, killed outside polling place
EASTON, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say a woman was struck and killed outside an eastern Pennsylvania polling place on election day.
Officials in Lehigh County said the accident happened at about 10:45 a.m. Tuesday outside the Forks Township municipal building, which was being used as a polling place.
The county coroner's office said 83-year-old Marlene Raub was pronounced dead shortly before 11:30 a.m. at St. Luke's Hospital due to blunt-force trauma to the head. Her death was ruled accidental.
Man gets life term after pleading guilty in wife’s death
EASTON, Pa. (AP) — An eastern Pennsylvania man has been sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole after pleading guilty to first-degree murder in the death of his wife.
Fifty-year-old Kenneth Cernobyl entered the plea Tuesday in the murder of 48-year-old Holly Ann Cernobyl in December in their North Catasauqua home.
Georgetown defense stifles Lafayette in 13-6 win
EASTON, Pa. (AP) — Gunther Johnson had two short touchdown runs in the second quarter and the defense forced four turnovers to give Georgetown a 13-6 win over Lafayette on Saturday.

EASTON, Pa. (AP) — A Pennsylvania judge must decide whether a man who acknowledged killing his cousin and also shooting his cousin's wife and their family dog planned his actions or committed them in the heat of passion.
Authorities said 62-year-old John Hann killed Joseph Mullner and shot Melinda Mullner multiple times in October 2017. She survived by playing dead. Hann surrendered the following day after a police standoff that lasted several hours.

Remains found in river identified as missing fugitive
FRENCHTOWN, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say skeletal remains found on an island in the Delaware River in New Jersey have been identified as a Pennsylvania fugitive believed to have jumped into the Lehigh River upstream in January.
The Hunterdon County prosecutor's office said Sunday the remains found Aug. 27 in Frenchtown were those of 47-year-old Anthony Sisonick III. They were found by someone walking along a flood-susceptible island on the Delaware River.
Man who shot trooper in roadside battle gets up to 110 years
EASTON, Pa. (AP) — A man convicted of attempted murder for opening fire on two Pennsylvania state troopers during a traffic stop last fall was sentenced Friday to up to 110 years in prison.
Daniel Clary, 22, shot and critically wounded 13-year veteran Cpl. Seth Kelly, who was helping another trooper arrest Clary in Northampton County. Clary had been pulled over for speeding and failed field sobriety tests.
A judge sentenced Clary to 55 ½ to 110 years in state prison.
