Even without Dinwiddie, Nets’ bench too much for Knicks
NEW YORK (AP) — The Nets needed someone to come in and change the game, but the guy they normally turn to wasn't available.
There were more than enough candidates left.
Theo Pinson, Ed Davis and Shabazz Napier carried a Nets bench that dominated the Knicks even without Spencer Dinwiddie, and Brooklyn beat New York 109-99 on Friday night for its sixth straight victory.
"We were losing. We had to do something and we wanted to come in and make a spark," Pinson said.
Nets climb out of early hole, beat Hawks 116-100
NEW YORK (AP) — The Nets already showed they can fight their way out of tough times, having left an eight-game skid behind last month.
So a 19-point deficit certainly wasn't going to deter them.
D'Angelo Russell scored 23 points, Ed Davis grabbed a season-high 16 rebounds, and the Nets climbed out of their early hole to beat the Atlanta Hawks 116-100 on Wednesday night.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Portland's Jusuf Nurkic and Damian Lillard found their connection against the Clippers.
"We understand each other," Nurkic said. "Every possession, we already know where we're going to be and how we're going to play. When we look at each other we already know what we're going to do."
Nurkic had 21 points and 12 rebounds, Lillard added 17 points and 11 assists, and the Trail Blazers held off the Clippers 105-96 on Friday night.
Evans, Conley help Grizzlies hold off Trail Blazers 98-97
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Mike Conley was as relieved as the rest of the Memphis Grizzlies when CJ McCollum missed a pull-up jumper with 3.7 seconds left.
"He had a great look," Conley said. "So we're thankful to get away with a win."
Tyreke Evans scored 21 points off the bench, Conley had 20 — all in the second half — and Memphis held off the Portland Trail Blazers 98-97 on Tuesday night.
Marc Gasol added 16 points as the Grizzlies improved to 2-1 on their five-game road trip.
Layman leads Blazers over Maccabi Haifa 129-81
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Jake Layman scored 24 points and Archie Goodwin added 23 for the Portland Trail Blazers in a 129-81 exhibition victory over Maccabi Haifa on Friday night.
Portland rested starters Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum, but center Jusuf Nurkic played 12 minutes and had 13 points and eight rebounds.
Josh Smith, who played 12 seasons in the NBA, led Haifa with 17 points and six rebounds.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Portland Trail Blazers forward Ed Davis will have arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder and will likely miss the rest of the season.
The procedure, which is scheduled for next Tuesday in Los Angeles, will repair an injured labrum, the team announced.
Davis has averaged 4.3 points and 5.3 rebounds in 46 games, including 12 starts, this season.
Spartans’ Reschke to miss substantial time with ankle sprain
EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Michigan State's linebacker corps looked pretty deep a couple weeks ago. Not so much anymore.
Jon Reschke is expected to miss a substantial amount of time with an ankle sprain, and linebacker Riley Bullough is day to day after missing last weekend's loss to Wisconsin with an unspecified injury.
Coach Mark Dantonio announced the injuries Tuesday.
East Lansing – Michigan State will be good at linebacker this season. That is not exactly a revelation for anyone who follows the Big Ten.
But what is revealed about the group that will be the heart of what figures to be another solid Michigan State defense is the fact the linebackers might also be the deepest unit on the team. The secondary has seven players who started at some point in their careers and the Spartans have three tailbacks who could be No. 1s in most Big...
