West Virginia QB Grier to skip bowl, prepare for NFL draft
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — West Virginia quarterback Will Grier won't play for the 15th-ranked Mountaineers in the Camping World Bowl against No. 17 Syracuse, instead focusing on preparation for the NFL draft.
Grier announced his decision Saturday in a statement released by West Virginia .
Houston DT Oliver skipping bowl game, ending college career
Houston defensive tackle Ed Oliver said in a Twitter post that he would not play in the Cougars' bowl game, ending his college football career.
Oliver, a junior, announced in March this would be is last college season and he would enter the 2019 NFL draft. He is expected to be a first-round pick, possibly one of the first players selected.
Memphis wins, will face UCF in AAC title rematch
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Junior Darrell Henderson rushed for 178 yards and two touchdowns — setting a conference rushing record — and Memphis rallied past Houston 52-31 on Friday to set up a rematch of last season's American Athletic Conference championship game with No. 8 UCF.
Henderson set the single-season rushing record, passing the previous mark of 1,629 by Tulsa's James Flanders in 2016.
Oliver says outburst was brought on by ’misunderstanding”
HOUSTON (AP) — Houston defensive tackle Ed Oliver says his sideline outburst at Cougars coach Major Applewhite was the result of a "misunderstanding" and he looks forward to "moving forward with his teammates."
Houston released short statements from Oliver and Applewhite on Friday night.
Oliver said the way he acted Thursday night was "not who I am." He added he has "the utmost respect" for Applewhite."

Fitzpatrick, Chubb, Jewell among 5 Nagurski Trophy finalists
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Alabama defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick, Georgia linebacker Roquan Smith, Houston defensive tackle Ed Oliver, Iowa linebacker Josey Jewell and North Carolina State defensive end Bradley Chubb are the finalists for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, given to the nation's top defensive player.
The finalists were named Wednesday. The winner will be announced Dec. 4 at the Charlotte Touchdown Club awards banquet.

Seven games into his career, he's beginning to take over and has 23 tackles in the last two games combined for the 11th-ranked Cougars .
