AP source: LSU, Orgeron in extension talks
A person familiar with the situation says LSU and coach Ed Orgeron have begun work on the framework of a contract extension with the hope of putting it before the university system's board of supervisors in March.
The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Wednesday because negotiations are ongoing and have not been announced.
LSU taps Saints assistant Brady to oversee passing game
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — LSU coach Ed Orgeron says he has hired New Orleans Saints assistant Joe Brady as the Tigers' passing game coordinator and receivers coach.
Brady fills the vacancy created when veteran receivers coach Jerry Sullivan retired after the 2018 season.
Orgeron says Brady brings LSU an innovative approach to offense and knowledge of the run-pass option after working under Saints coach Sean Payton.
Orgeron plays up stakes of LSU’s season finale at Texas A&M
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Coach Ed Orgeron makes it clear that he doesn't see LSU's regular-season finale at Texas A&M on Saturday as just another game on the schedule.
No. 10 LSU, Orgeron mindful of past upsets as Rice arrives
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — LSU coach Ed Orgeron didn't want to hear about resting key starters or giving young reserves more snaps — no matter how much of a prohibitive favorite his tenth-ranked Tigers may be against struggling Rice.
Apparently, bad memories of the Troy Trojans celebrating a stunning upset triumph in Death Valley last season remain fresh in the Cajun coach's mind.
No. 10 LSU, Orgeron, eye Tigers’ best season since 2012
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Although LSU cannot win the Southeastern Conference championship, victories in its next two games will result in a regular season that exceeded expectations by a wide margin.
The 10th-ranked Tigers need to beat Rice this Saturday and Texas A&M in College Station the following week for their first 10-win regular season since 2012. That probably also would put LSU in a New Year's Six Bowl.
LSU bounces back from Alabama loss with win at Arkansas
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Ed Orgeron could be heard screaming encouragement through the door of the LSU locker room following a 24-17 victory over Arkansas on Saturday night.
It wasn't the prettiest of finishes to an otherwise dominant victory, but the coach of the No. 9 Tigers (8-2, 5-2 Southeastern Conference) was all about restoring a sense of swagger after a disheartening home loss to No. 1 Alabama a week ago.
LSU’s Orgeron discusses ‘biggest day’ on the job
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — LSU coach Ed Orgeron proclaimed that Monday was his "biggest day" on the job since he took over the Les Miles in 2016.
The coach expressed concerned about the psyche of his players after the dual blow of losing big at home to No. 1 Alabama and then hearing their own coach say after the game that he needs to bring in better recruits.
’Bama-LSU, Kentucky-Georgia matchups have title implications
Here are a few things to watch during Week 10 of the Southeastern Conference football season:
Legacy game awaits LSU’s Cajun coach vs. No. 1 Alabama
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Cornelia "Coco" Orgeron, the mother of LSU coach Ed Orgeron, describes her son as someone who lives to bring joy to others and rarely requests anything for himself, "except maybe a gumbo."
Her assessment is routinely echoed across the Cajun enclaves of south Louisiana — particularly around Bayou Lafourche, where the Tigers' coach grew up and is known by the nickname, "Bebe."
Don’t look now, but it’s another top-5 Alabama-LSU matchup
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Nick Saban has no interest in reconstructing Alabama's seven-game winning streak over LSU or pondering his team's scarcely threatened perfect record.
So just don't ask.
The top-ranked Crimson Tide coach is far more concerned with the challenges presented by Ed Orgeron's current fourth-ranked Tigers, which appear to be substantial.
Going for it: 4th-down makes fuel football scoring surge
Major college football teams are on a record scoring pace this season and a more aggressive approach on fourth down is helping to fuel the surge.
Through eight weeks of the season, FBS teams are averaging 30.23 points per game, up almost a point and a half from last season and just ahead of the record 30.0 set in 2016.
LSU’s Orgeron hopes coaches demand change to targeting rule
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — LSU coach Ed Orgeron hopes coaches will band together and demand changes to NCAA football's targeting rule and how it is enforced.
Orgeron's suggestion comes just days after a target foul called last weekend LSU linebacker Devin White, a penalty which triggered White's suspension for the first half of the fourth-ranked Tigers' next game against No. 1 Alabama on Nov. 3.

No. 5 LSU mindful of recent drubbing by No. 22 MSU
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — When the fifth-ranked LSU Tigers reflect on their most lopsided loss last season, it's not the color crimson that comes to mind.
No, it's a different shade of red — the maroon donned by the 22nd-ranked Mississippi State Bulldogs, who'll invade LSU's Death Valley on Saturday night.
’Bama’s Tagovailoa, LSU’s Orgeron among SEC best in 1st half
It's no surprise that top-ranked Alabama is once again the class of the Southeastern Conference halfway through the season. And considering his ample talent, the emergence of Tide quarterback Tua Tagovailoa as an offensive force could have been easily predicted.
The rest of the SEC has produced a myriad of surprises, superlatives and disappointments through the season's first seven weeks.
LSU’s Orgeron takes signature win over No. 2 Georgia, 36-16
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — As a jubilant sort of mayhem engulfed LSU coach Ed Orgeron, with fans rushing onto the field, the Cajun coach who grew up loving the Tigers calmly looked around and let the spectacle sink in, then hugged wife Kelly.
Joe Burrow passed for 200 yards and had two short touchdown runs, LSU's defense staggered Georgia's normally prolific offense, and the 13th-ranked Tigers beat the No. 2 Bulldogs 36-16 on Saturday to give Orgeron a signature victory.
No. 5 LSU tries to add to resume against No. 22 Florida
No. 5 LSU (5-0, 2-0 SEC) at No. 22 Florida (4-1, 2-1), 3:30 p.m. EDT (CBS)
Line: LSU by 2.
Series record: Florida leads 32-29-3.
WHAT'S AT STAKE?
LSU puts its undefeated record on the line against Florida, which is coming off consecutive road wins against Tennessee and Mississippi State.
LSU, Kentucky undefeated starts only part of SEC’s surprises
Under Nick Saban, the Alabama Crimson Tide always seems to start the season racking up wins.
The Georgia Bulldogs also seem to be starting that trend with Kirby Smart in charge.
But not everything is going according to plan in the Southeastern Conference.
No. 5 LSU aims to validate offensive gains at No. 22 Florida
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — First-year LSU quarterback Joe Burrow repeated the term "breakout game" on Monday as he referred to the most recent showing of the Tigers' passing offense.
The implication is that going forward, there's a new, higher standard of production for Burrow and Co. — a premise that will be tested Saturday in Gainesville, Florida.
No. 5 LSU honing in on explosive Ole Miss air attack
Mississippi (3-1, 0-1 SEC) at No. 5 LSU (4-0, 1-0), 9:15 p.m. ET (ESPN)
LSU turn high-turnover margin into wins, rise in rankings
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — LSU coach Ed Orgeron likes to say that the football program under his direction is "all about the ball."
For him, that means protecting the ball by minimizing risk on offense and aggressively trying to take it away on defense.
No. 6 LSU beats back Louisiana Tech upset bid, 38-21
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — LSU coach Ed Orgeron compared his team to an overconfident fighter who drops his hands and subsequently gets "hit in the face."
Rather can get knocked out, the sixth-ranked Tigers woke up.
Nick Brossette scored three touchdowns, Clyde Edwards-Helaire rushed for a career-high 136 yards and two TDs, and LSU beat Louisiana Tech 38-21 on Saturday night in a game infused with far more tension than expected.
No. 6 LSU remembers why it must respect Louisiana Tech
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — LSU and coach Ed Orgeron need look back no further than last season for lessons about why the sixth-ranked Tigers should take Louisiana Tech seriously.
Troy, a mid-major from the Sun Belt Conference, invaded Death Valley and celebrated a signature victory over a 2017 LSU team that wasn't all that bad. After all, the Tigers went on to win nine games last season.
No. 6 LSU buoyed by Burrow’s intangibles, if not his stats
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Joe Burrow's pedestrian completion percentage and passing totals might be more of an issue if sixth-ranked LSU were losing.
For now, the Tigers' transfer quarterback appears to get more criticism from himself than anyone else at LSU. Coaches and teammates rave about Burrow's mentality, football IQ, toughness, leadership and other intangibles.
No. 6 LSU, coach suddenly adjusting to favored status
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — As much as LSU coach Ed Orgeron urges his players to "block out the noise," the reality is inescapable.
Burrow, LSU rise to occasion in big road win
AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — When LSU needed a big play, Joe Burrow delivered a touchdown pass. Late drive with the game on the line?
LSU's new starting quarterback produced again. Burrow led the then-No. 12 Tigers to a 22-21 upset of then-No. 7 Auburn on Saturday in a game that made an early statement not only for LSU but for Burrow.
Tracy’s FG on final play lifts No. 12 LSU over No. 7 Auburn
AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — LSU coach Ed Orgeron insisted he had no doubt Cole Tracy would make the winning kick, but setting it up was quite the adventure.
Tracy kicked a 42-yard field goal on the final play to give No. 12 LSU a 22-21 victory over No. 7 Auburn on Saturday in their Southeastern Conference opener.
LSU brings improved special teams to Auburn
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — The last two times LSU and Auburn met, special teams figured prominently.
Now 12th-ranked LSU is hoping noticeable improvements in its kicking game can tip the balance at No. 7 Auburn on Saturday.
No. 7 Auburn hosts No. 12 LSU in SEC opener for both
No. 12 LSU (2-0, 0-0 SEC) at No. 7 Auburn (2-0, 0-0), 3:30 p.m. ET (CBS)
Line: Auburn by 10.
Series record: LSU leads 29-22-1.
WHAT'S AT STAKE?
The winner of this game will emerge as perhaps the team most likely to challenge No. 1 Alabama in the SEC West. Both already have big nonconference wins, LSU over No. 21 Miami and Auburn over No. 10 Washington.
No. 11 LSU loses top pass rusher Chaisson for the season
LSU edge pass-rusher K'Lavon Chaisson's season is over after three productive quarters against Miami.
The 11th-ranked Tigers will have to make do without Chaisson because of a knee injury he suffered during a season-opening victory over the Hurricanes, LSU coach Ed Orgeron said Tuesday.
"I feel bad for him," Orgeron said. "He had totally dedicated himself to this year. He will bounce back. His teammates are very sad."
LSU takes ‘unproven’ backfield into clash with Miami
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — LSU's Nick Brossette and Clyde Edwards-Helaire are hardly the household names the Tigers have been accustomed to featuring at running back.
Current NFL players Jeremy Hill, Leonard Fournette and Derrius Guice all established their credentials in backup roles and were bona fide pro prospects by the time they became featured rushers at LSU.
Ohio State transfer QB Burrow named LSU starter vs. Miami
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Ohio State transfer Joe Burrow didn't need long to convince new teammates at LSU that he had no sense of entitlement and was prepared to work.
On Monday, Burrow was named the starting quarterback for the 25th-ranked Tigers' season opener against No. 8 Miami in Dallas on Sunday night. LSU coach Ed Orgeron described competition between Burrow and sophomore Myles Brennan as "tight," and added that he would not hesitate to change QBs should the starter falter.
LSU defensive back Fulton reinstated
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — LSU officials say the NCAA has reinstated junior defensive back Kristian Fulton.
Fulton has served about 18 months of what was originally a two-year suspension for tampering with a drug-test by allegedly substituting someone else's urine sample for his own.
LSU says the NCAA acquiesced to Athletic Director Joe Alleva's request to reclassify the matter to a similar violation punishable by a one-year ban, allowing Fulton to play immediately.
Police: LSU’s Ingram arrested on sexual assault charges
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Authorities in Dallas say LSU offensive lineman Ed Ingram was arrested on sexual assault charges in early August, around the same time the projected starter was suspended from the Tigers' football program for an unspecified violation of team rules.
The Dallas County Sheriff's Office says Ingram was arrested on Aug. 2, a day before LSU coach Ed Orgeron announced the sophomore's indefinite suspension.
LSU, Orgeron, take fortress mentality into uncertain 2018
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — If LSU coach Ed Orgeron wanted to highlight perceived slights of the Tigers as a way of motivating players to prove their critics wrong, he'd have plenty of material.
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — LSU coach Ed Orgeron says guard Ed Ingram has been suspended indefinitely for an unspecified violation of team rules.
The suspension of the 6-foot-4, 314-pound Ingram was announced Friday. The decision comes as players report for the first practices of fall camp this weekend and leaves the Tigers with three returning starters on the offensive line.
Orgeron says junior college transfer Damien Lewis will be the first-team right guard when practice begins Saturday.
ATLANTA (AP) — The Latest on SEC Media Days (all times local):
LSU coach Ed Orgeron is looking for a starting quarterback. He has kept open the option of allowing the competition to carry into the season.
Ohio State graduate transfer Joe Burrow will compete with junior Justin McMillan, sophomore Myles Brennan and redshirt freshman Lowell Narcisse for the starting job. Burrow has two years of eligibility remaining.
Fans in Shreveport-Bossier got a chance to visit with LSU head coach Ed Orgeron and company Monday as the LSU Tiger Football Caravan made it's usual stop at Horseshoe Casino.
Horseshoe's Riverdome was transformed into Tiger Nation for a night, as Orgeron gave fans an update on the team following the 2018 Spring Game.
Christian LaCouture set a LSU Pro Timing Day record with 41 reps in the 225-bench press and Donte Jackson set another school record at the event with a 4.31 time in the 40-yard dash here Wednesday at the Charles McClendon Practice Facility.
All 32 NFL teams were on hand for LSU’s Pro Timing Day presented by Sprint, as the event featured 24 former LSU football players along with Brian Bridgewater (LSU basketball) and Aaron Ernest (LSU track and field).
Sure, we’ll give it a shot: Here’s a mid-spring LSU football depth chart
LSU is six practices into spring. We probably haven't seen enough in practice to create a real depth chart, but let's give it a crack anyway.
Please note that this depth chart is based off interviews with coach Ed Orgeron, players and limited practice observations. This depth chart is NOT a projection of the team's depth chart for the season opener against Miami - it is a projection of a CURRENT depth chart if the Tigers were playing a game this weekend.
Where does LSU’s quarterback battle stand? We dive into the competition in Week 2 of spring
Myles Brennan throws a “bullet” and possesses a “sharp eye.”
Justin McMillan has a “cannon” for an arm and can scramble.
Lowell Narcisse’s passes have “beautiful touch.”
During the second week of LSU’s spring practice, the three-man quarterback competition wages on without a leader, according to coach Ed Orgeron and players.
This is a 12-part daily series counting down the days until LSU football begins spring practice on March 11.
Days until spring: 5
Scholarship inside linebacker in spring: 5
Last year at this time, the Tigers started spring practice with two total scholarship inside linebackers, and they finished it with one. Things are different this year.
Immediate impact: LSU lands two Mississippi commitments from ‘amazing’ junior day event
Dinner in a suite overlooking Tiger Stadium’s football field was cool.
Learning about how LSU’s academic staff graduates players in three years was great.
Meeting with football players and staff members while mining them for information was nice.
But for Jaren Handy, a highly rated Mississippi defensive end in the 2019 recruiting class, nothing influenced his college choice more than head coach Ed Orgeron.
On the record: former LSU WR DJ Chark on the 2018 Tigers under a new OC, Matt Canada’s tenure and LSU’s future return man
MOBILE, Ala. — Whatever discord took place last season among LSU’s coaching staff, the unrest never affected the Tigers’ offense, receiver DJ Chark said in an interview Tuesday from the Senior Bowl site.
Offensive coordinator Matt Canada and the school agreed to mutually separate just a year into his tenure with the program, one marked by a frayed relationship between the coordinator and head coach Ed Orgeron.
Former LSU RB Kevin Faulk set to join support staff, pending SEC approval
LSU is bringing back a big name — possibly.
Former Tigers running back Kevin Faulk is in the process of joining the program's support staff, though the move is not final, multiple sources told The Advocate.
