The Belleville News Democrat reports that Coroner Stephen P. Nonn issued a warning in his annual report for 2018, saying he was "alarmed by the number of tragic deaths." The 109 deaths were more than the previous high of 91 set in 2014.

Morant is the first Division I player in the last 20 seasons to go for at least 40 points, 10 assists and five steals. He is also made all 21 of his free throws, the first player in the last 20 years to go 21-for-21 or better.

Pacific lead by as many as 23 points in the first half and held a 40-21 advantage at the break, but the Cougars battled back to cut the deficit to four points with less than two minutes to play.
Alton man charged in Godfrey village trustee’s death
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) — Murder charges have been filed against a southern Illinois man in the shooting death of a Godfrey village official.
Donald Nelson of Alton was charged Wednesday with first-degree murder in the death of 87-year-old Godfrey Village Board member Eldon Williams on Tuesday.
According to Madison County Circuit Court documents, the 34-year-old Nelson shot Williams in the head Tuesday morning in the driveway of a home in Alton during a robbery attempt.
2 killed in crash during southwestern Illinois police chase
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) — Authorities say a stolen car being chased by police slammed into a fuel tanker truck in southwestern Illinois, killing the two men inside the car.
The crash late Wednesday in Edwardsville left the car wedged underneath the tanker, with much of its roof pealed back.
Illinois State Police Sgt. Devin Watts says officers from nearby police departments were chasing the car when it crashed into an empty gasoline tanker going through an intersection.

CHICAGO (AP) — A federal judge has handed a 38-year-old man a 19-year prison sentence for two bank robberies in southern Illinois.
Prosecutors say Marcus J. Thornton, of Edwardsville, entered a bank in Lebanon on Oct. 13, 2016, demanded money and made off with more than $13,000. They say he wielded a semi-automatic handgun in a Feb. 9, 2017, bank robbery in O'Fallon, fleeing with around $10,000. Both communities are just east of St. Louis.
