LAS VEGAS (AP) — Seattle Mariners general manager Jerry Dipoto was in a hospital, making a trade from a bed.
Cleveland counterpart Chris Antonetti was boarding a plane headed back home, trying to finalize the deal before the flight pulled away from the gate.
They managed to complete the swap as the winter meetings came to an end. Carlos Santana was sent back to Cleveland, where he was an Indians fan favorite. Edwin Encarnacion is headed to Seattle — no telling how long he'll stick there.
Mariners GM Jerry Dipoto pulls off trade from hospital bed
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Seattle Mariners general manager Jerry Dipoto was released from a hospital Thursday, hours after completing a trade from his bed during the baseball winter meetings.
He had begun feeling ill earlier in the week.
The team said Dipoto was driven to an area hospital by Mariners officials Wednesday "out of an abundance of caution." Dipoto made improvements into Thursday and was released later in the day, the team said. He was expected to fly home to Seattle on Friday.
Encarnacion, Santana go, 3-team trade wraps winter meetings
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Carlos Santana and Jeurys Familia found friendly landing spots, Edwin Encarnacion took off for a more uncertain future. Joe Kelly joined the team he helped beat in the World Series, the Milwaukee Brewers boosted their imposing bullpen.
The winter meetings wrapped up Thursday with a three-team trade involving Cleveland, Seattle and Tampa Bay, plus a couple more relievers reached free-agent deals.

Bieber remained perfect on the road with six scoreless innings, Francisco Lindor led off the game with a home run and the Cleveland Indians beat up the Chicago White Sox 10-2 on Wednesday night.
Edwin Encarnacion finished 3 for 4 with a three-run homer and drove in four runs for the AL Central champs.
Donaldson hitless in Indians debut, 2-0 win over Rays
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Josh Donaldson and Edwin Encarnacion are back together again and got a chance to celebrate a home run like old times in Toronto.
Donaldson went hitless in his Cleveland debut, Encarnacion reached 30 homers for the seventh straight season and the Indians beat the Tampa Bay Rays 2-0 on Tuesday night.
Donaldson was on-deck when Encarnacion went deep and the pair exchanged a high-five afterward.

Indians put slugger Encarnacion on DL with biceps problem
CHICAGO (AP) — The Cleveland Indians are putting slugger Edwin Encarnacion on the disabled list because of swelling in his left biceps.
Manager Terry Francona made the announcement after the AL Central leaders beat the Chicago White Sox 3-1 on Saturday night. Encarnacion left Friday night's game and had an MRI in Cleveland on Saturday.
Bauer strikes out 11, Indians hit 4 HRs in 10-0 win
CLEVELAND (AP) — Trevor Bauer reached a milestone Monday night.
Cleveland's right-hander struck out 11 in six innings — giving him 206 for the season — and the Indians routed the Minnesota Twins 10-0.
Bauer (11-6) is one strikeout behind Boston's Chris Sale for the AL lead. After striking out 196 last season — then a career high — reaching the 200-mark was a goal going into 2018.
"That's something I wanted to accomplish," he said. "Next up is 300. Maybe not this year, but hopefully next year."
