Panthers DT Kawann Short will play vs. Saints
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Panthers defensive tackle Kawaan Short is active and will play against the Saints on Monday night despite being listed as doubtful with a calf injury.
Short was upgraded to questionable on Sunday after making progress in his rehab.
Carolina kicker Graham Gano will miss his second straight game with a knee injury, meaning Chandler Catanzaro will again handle kicking duties.
D.J. Moore latest playmaker to emerge for balanced Panthers
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — It was D.J. Moore's turn to be a young standout for the Carolina Panthers.
The Panthers' first-round draft pick from Maryland had a team-high five receptions for 90 yards and also gained 39 yards on electrifying runs on back-to-back plays, including a 28-yard dash around right end that proved to be Carolina's biggest run of the day, in a dominating 36-21 win against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.
NFL player, once part of human trafficking, has huge game
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Panthers defensive end Efe Obada exploded off the corner, bolted past Bengals tight end C.J. Ogbuehi and crashed into quarterback Andy Dalton for his first career sack and a 10-yard loss.
He screamed to his teammates, "They don't know me! I'm from London! They don't know me!"
Efe Obada survives human trafficking, now a Carolina Panther
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Defensive end Efe Obada plays like a man fighting for survival when he steps on the football field.
Given his life story, it's understandable.
The Nigerian-born Obada says he was a victim of human trafficking at the age of 10. He said he and his older sister were abandoned in the streets of London, England.
NEW YORK (AP) — Eight NFL teams will carry on their practice squads a player who came from an expanded program for overseas players.
The International Player Pathway was instituted last year. It aims to provide international athletes the opportunity to compete at the NFL level.
Alex Gray (Atlanta Falcons), Alex Jenkins (New Orleans Saints), Eric Nzeocha (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) and Efe Obada (Carolina Pathners) participated in 2017 and will return to those NFC South teams.
Panthers left thin at cornerback after initial roster cuts
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — The Panthers may need to add depth at cornerback after waiving former fifth-round draft pick Zack Sanchez and placing veteran Teddy Williams on injured reserve Friday.
Sanchez was having a solid preseason before injuring his groin Thursday night against the Steelers.
NEW YORK (AP) — Four NFL teams will carry an additional overseas player on their practice squads during the 2017 season. Three players are from Britain and one from Germany.
The announcement by the NFL on Thursday is part of a new International Player Pathway program.
The international players are: tight end Alex Gray with Atlanta, defensive end Efe Obada with Carolina, defensive end Alex Jenkins with New Orleans and linebacker Eric Nzeocha with Tampa Bay.
