The Hope, Junction City, Lafayette County and Camden Fairview districts had requested waivers from the School Choice Act, arguing that allowing students to cross district lines could put the districts in conflict with longstanding federal desegregation mandates.

2 correctional officers hurt responding to fight a El Dorado
EL DORADO, Kan. (AP) — Kansas prison officials say two correctional officers were injured while responding to a fight between inmates at El Dorado Correctional Facility.

Surveyors confirm 11 tornadoes in Arkansas from storms
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Survey teams with the National Weather Service have confirmed 11 tornadoes so far from the severe storms that hit Arkansas on Friday and Saturday.
The two strongest tornadoes were both rated EF2. One hit Mountainburg in northwest Arkansas while the other struck Montrose in the southern part of the state. EF1 tornadoes were confirmed in Lavaca, Ozone, Gamaliel, Umpire, Crossett and southwest Ashley County. An EF0 tornado was confirmed in Oppelo in Conway County.
EL DORADO, Ark. (AP) — Police in El Dorado say officers investigating reports of a shooting found a woman dead inside a home.

Kansas prison system veteran takes helm at El Dorado
TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — A 25-year veteran of the Kansas prison system will take over as the warden of a maximum-security prison that had multiple inmate disturbances last summer.
Corrections Secretary Joe Norwood announced Monday that Paul Snyder will become warden at El Dorado Correctional Facility April 8.
James Heimgartner stepped down as warden of the El Dorado prison in July after several inmate disturbances.
El Dorado representative to lead Arkansas House in 2019
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Members of the Arkansas House have elected a Republican representative from El Dorado to lead the chamber in 2019.
Rep. Matthew Shepherd picked up 57 votes in Monday balloting by House members. A vote total wasn't released for Republican Rep. Andy Davis of Little Rock.
If affirmed next year, Shepherd would replace Rep. Jeremy Gillam of Judsonia, who is not seeking re-election to his House seat.
