Hearing set for mother committed after death of daughter, 4
WHEATON, Ill. (AP) — A suburban Chicago judge has scheduled a discharge hearing for a woman sentenced to lifetime involuntary commitment after the 2010 death of her 4-year-old daughter.
The (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald reports that DuPage County Judge George Bakalis scheduled March Webber's hearing for May 7 to 9, opening the possibility she could be released from the Elgin Mental Health Center.

Illinois man accused of luring robbing victim via dating app
ST. CHARLES, Ill. (AP) — A 19-year-old suburban Chicago man faces charges accusing him of robbing someone he lured through a dating app.
The Kane County state's attorney's office said in a Tuesday statement that Steven L. Ward Jr., of Elgin, stole his victim's cellphone after saying he was armed and displaying a BB pistol. The statement doesn't identify the dating app used to arrange the meeting for Jan. 9.

State police to step up traffic patrols during holiday
ELGIN, Ill. (AP) — Illinois State Police will step up patrols by troopers as they seek to ensure compliance with seat belt and other laws during the busy Thanksgiving travel period.
The Click It or Ticket campaign will include seat-belt enforcement zones around the state. A Tuesday statement from state police says they'll also aggressively enforce speeding, drunk-driving and distracted-driving laws.
Man who locked daughter in basement unfit for trial
WAUKEGAN, Ill. (AP) — A suburban Chicago man who, which his wife, is accused of confining their 10-year-old daughter to their basement has been found unfit for trial.
Lake County Assistant State's Attorney George Pappas says 48-year-old Randy Swopes will be held in a secure treatment facility in Elgin for evaluation and treatment until he is found fit.

HIGHLAND PARK, Ill. (AP) — Authorities in suburban Chicago have resumed a search for a woman who disappeared after going swimming in treacherous waters in Lake Michigan.
In a news release, the city of Highland Park says 52-year-old Lena Lemesh, of Elgin, was among about 10 people in a "cold weather swim group " that went into the lake Sunday morning at Park Avenue Beach, despite huge waves and fierce winds.

Woman driving go-kart killed in northern Illinois crash
MARENGO, Ill. (AP) — Authorities say a woman driving a go-kart on a rural northern Illinois road was killed when hit from behind by a car.
The McHenry County sheriff's department says the crash happened Saturday night near the city of Marengo and that the woman was pronounced dead at a hospital shortly after the collision. The county coroner identified the victim as 29-year-old Yajayra Huerta of Elgin.

SOUTH ELGIN, Ill. (AP) — Authorities say two boys ages 11 and 13 are responsible for more than $100,000 in damage at the Fox River Trolley Museum in suburban Chicago.
The South Elgin museum says in a statement that dozens of windows were broken sometime between July 4 to July 7 and additional damage was done to eight cars. The museum says one car had 26 windows that were punched out by pick axes and spikes.
