Darnold shines, nearly delivers Jets another victory
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Sam Darnold nearly pulled off another one.
Six days after leading the New York Jets to the first fourth-quarter comeback victory of his young career, the rookie quarterback almost did it again — falling just shy in a 29-22 loss to the Houston Texans on Saturday night.
"To go out there against a good Texans team, it would've been awesome to be able to get that win," Darnold said, "but we just came up short."

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — The Texans and Jets will be without starting wide receivers, with Houston's Keke Coutee and New York's Quincy Enunwa inactive because of injuries.
Both Coutee (hamstring) and Enunwa (ankle) had been previously ruled out for the game Saturday.

NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Jets have placed running back Isaiah Crowell on season-ending injured reserve with a toe injury.
Crowell didn't practice all week and had already been ruled out for the Jets' game against Houston on Saturday. He was hurt against Tennessee two weeks ago and re-injured his foot against Buffalo last Sunday.
Crowell has a team-leading 685 yards rushing and six touchdowns. He has never missed a game during his five-year NFL career.

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — The New York Jets will be without two key playmakers on offense against the Houston Texans.

Jets see progress from Darnold in return from injury
The New York Jets hoped to see two things from rookie quarterback Sam Donald in his return from missing three games with a right foot injury: health and progress.
Miscues cost Bills in 27-23 loss to New York Jets
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Coach Sean McDermott knows the Buffalo Bills aren't going to win too many more games if they keep allowing opponents to start drives at midfield — or beyond.
"That wasn't part of the game plan, for them to start at the 48," McDermott said, sarcastically.
Three turnovers by rookie quarterback Josh Allen, coupled with a series of special teams coverage breakdowns led to the Bills squandering a 14-3 lead in a 27-23 loss to the New York Jets on Sunday.

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — The New York Jets have activated running back Elijah McGuire from the short-term injured reserve list and safety Rontez Miles from the physically unable to perform list.

Jets’ Winters out; Williams out of concussion protocol
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — New York Jets right guard Brian Winters will not play against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday because of an abdominal injury.

Defensive end Leonard Williams completed the NFL's concussion protocol after being injured last Sunday at New Orleans and was a full participant at practice.
Claiborne, Forte sit out practice for Jets
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — New York Jets cornerback Morris Claiborne and running back Matt Forte were among a handful of players who sat out practice with injuries.
Claiborne has been dealing with a sprained right foot since late October and says Wednesday that his performance against Denver last Sunday was embarrassing. He says he was limping throughout, but assured coaches he was OK because he didn't want to come out.
Jets’ Forte still sidelined, uncertain vs. Panthers
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — A bye-week break wasn't enough to get Matt Forte back on the field.
The New York Jets running back remained sidelined Wednesday with an ailing knee and is uncertain to play Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.
Forte, who turns 32 on Dec. 10, missed the Jets' last game at Tampa Bay on Nov. 12 with swelling in his surgically repaired right knee. In his absence, Bilal Powell ran for 30 yards on 10 carries and rookie Elijah McGuire had 22 yards on eight attempts.
Dolphins’ Parker, Falcons’ Sanu inactive because of injuries
The Miami Dolphins and Atlanta Falcons are missing starting wide receivers because of injuries.
Miami's DeVante Parker is inactive with an ankle injury after being listed as doubtful on the team's most recent update.
As expected, Mohamed Sanu is out for Atlanta with a hamstring injury. Falcons receiver Marvin Hall, signed from the practice squad this week, is in uniform.
Falcons kicker Matt Bryant, on the injury report with a back problem, is active.
Wade Davis bailed out the Cubs in epic fashion Thursday night to advance the reigning World Series champions to their third consecutive NLCS. He was something of an unassuming hero — not because he didn't dominate in a vital role during the season, but because he'd never recorded a four-out save, never mind seven; and Cubs fans may have assumed Joe Maddon wasn't going there with his closer again, not after the Aroldis Chapman experience last November.
Jets’ Powell, Wilkerson sit out practice with injuries
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — It might be Elijah McGuire's turn to step in as the New York Jets' starting running back.
Bilal Powell sat out practice Wednesday with a strained calf after injuring during the Jets' 17-14 win at Cleveland last Sunday. His status for New York's game Sunday against New England is uncertain.
Jets’ Forte has turf toe, could miss game vs. Jaguars
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — Matt Forte's big toe is a big pain right now, and it could keep the New York Jets running back sidelined this weekend.
Forte is dealing with turf toe in his left foot, and sat out practice Wednesday. He was injured last Sunday in the Jets' 20-6 win over Miami and is uncertain when he'll be able to play again.
"I have no idea," Forte said. "We have to wait until we see how it feels. If I'm able to practice, we'll go from there."
Jets sign former Saints RB-KR Cadet, place WR Peake on IR
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — The New York Jets have signed running back-kick returner Travaris Cadet and placed wide receiver Charone Peake on injured reserve.
