ATLANTA (AP) _ Equifax Inc. (EFX) on Wednesday reported third-quarter net income of $38.4 million.
The Atlanta-based company said it had net income of 32 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, came to $1.41 per share.
The results did not meet Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 10 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.42 per share.

The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of nine analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.54 per share.
Equifax Inc. has reached an agreement with eight states that will require the credit-reporting agency to put stronger security measures in place to prevent future data breaches.
About 147.9 million Americans were impacted by Equifax's 2017 data breach, which was the largest exposure of personal information in history.

ATLANTA (AP) — Equifax Inc. said Thursday that its net income slumped about 27 percent in the third quarter, weighed down by costs related to its data breach that exposed the personal information of 145 million Americans earlier this year. Even so, the company's earnings topped Wall Street's forecasts.
Four Equifax Inc. executives who sold stock in the days after the company discovered a security breach had no knowledge of the incident when they made the trades, the company said.
A special committee of the firm’s board that investigated the sales also determined the executives obtained appropriate clearance from Equifax’s legal department and that the transactions complied with company policy, Atlanta-based Equifax said Friday in a statement.

NY attorney general presses TransUnion, Experian for details
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is pressing two credit monitoring companies to explain what cybersecurity they have in place to protect sensitive consumer information following a recent breach at Equifax that exposed the data of 143 million Americans.
In letters to executives at TransUnion and Experian, the Democratic attorney general asked them to describe their existing security systems, as well as what changes they've made since the Equifax cyberattack.
