ERIE, Pa. (AP) — A prison inmate serving a life sentence in Philadelphia homicides now faces another life term in the death of a fellow inmate in northwestern Pennsylvania.
The Erie Times-News reports that 30-year-old Kareem Savage was convicted Wednesday of third-degree murder and assault by a life prisoner, a count punishable by life without parole.

ERIE, Pa. (AP) — A federal civil rights lawsuit stemming from a 2016 arrest in northwestern Pennsylvania has been settled for $125,000.
Montrice Bolden alleged that six Erie police officers used excessive force during a June 2016 arrest outside a tavern, which was recorded on surveillance video.
Police alleged that Bolden assaulted two officers and grabbed at an officer's sidearm. Bolden alleged he was punched "multiple times in the face," slammed into a police cruiser and kicked while prone.

16-year-old pleads guilty, mentally ill in grandma killing
ERIE, Pa. (AP) — A 16-year-old Pennsylvania boy has pleaded guilty but mentally ill in the 2016 shooting death of his grandmother.
The Erie Times-News reports Hunter Reeser entered the plea on Friday morning as part of a deal with prosecutors.

Erie Diocese announces start of victim compensation fund
ERIE, Pa. (AP) — The Roman Catholic Diocese of Erie says that it will soon start accepting claims for compensation by survivors of child sexual abuse by clergy.
The diocese announced Friday that in mid-February it will launch a Survivors' Reparation Fund. It will offer survivors who are barred from suing because of time limits a "straight-forward, non-contentious" way to obtain compensation for what it says was the "harm that sexual predators within the Diocese of Erie inflicted."
Truck driver charged with 2nd rape based on DNA test
ERIE, Pa. (AP) — Authorities in Erie County say DNA has tied a truck driver already charged with a 2017 rape to a similar crime two years earlier.
Jerome Keyes was charged Tuesday in the beating and rape of a 42-year-old woman in Erie in 2015.
Keyes is already in custody, charged with abducting and raping a 37-year-old woman in October.

Authorities say 44-year-old former home health aide Windi C. Thomas entered the plea in Erie County court on Monday, agreeing to a recommended sentence of 18 to 36 years.

Luis Rodriguez was arraigned Sunday on numerous charges, including felony counts of homicide and attempted homicide. It wasn't known if he's retained an attorney.
The charges against the 48-year-old Harborcreek man stem from a shooting Saturday at a pizzeria in Erie.

Tornado prompts nursing home evacuation; no serious injuries
CONNEAUTVILLE, Pa. (AP) — A tornado struck a nursing home in northwestern Pennsylvania, blowing a roof off one building and causing moderate to heavy damage, authorities said. No serious injuries were reported.
Meteorologist Mike Griffin of the National Weather Service office in Cleveland said the EF-2 twister packing winds up to 115 mph struck Rolling Fields Elder Care Community in Conneautville, about 40 miles (64 kilometers) south of Erie, at about 2:40 p.m. Tuesday.
