Coens, Cuaron, Jenkins heading to New York Film Festival
NEW YORK (AP) — The 56th New York Film Festival will feature films from the Coen brothers, Barry Jenkins and 88-year-old documentarian Frederick Wiseman.
The Film Society of Lincoln Center on Tuesday announced its main slate, including the Cannes Film Festival Palme d'Or winner "Shoplifters," by Japanese director Hirokazu Kore-eda. Most of the festival's 30 selections will be making their United States premiere after debuting at either Cannes, Venice or Toronto.

Tulsa actor Tim Blake Nelson is re-teaming with his "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" filmmakers — the Coen Brothers — for a Netflix Western series of stories.

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. (AP) — Joel and Ethan Coen will polish the script for a planned "Scarface" remake.
Universal Pictures announced Friday that "an explosive reimagining" of the gangster classic will be released in August 2018. Diego Luna is set to star in the role famously played by Al Pacino in Brian De Palma's 1983 remake of the 1932 original.
Jamaica Kincaid among winners of Israeli foundation prize
JERUSALEM (AP) — Author Jamaica Kincaid is among this year's winners of the prestigious Dan David Prize for scientific, technological and cultural accomplishments.
The prize is administered by Tel Aviv University. On Tuesday it named the 2017 winners.
The Dan David Foundation awards $3 million in prizes annually to recipients grouped in three categories: past, present and future.

NEW YORK (AP) — The Coen brothers will make their first TV show, a miniseries titled "The Ballad of Buster Scruggs."
Joel and Ethan Coen will write and direct the project, set in the Old West, Annapurna Television announced late Tuesday. The production company said it plans to make "The Ballad of Buster Scruggs" with "an innovative television and theatrical integrated approach."
Though the Coens' film "Fargo" was adapted into an FX series, the filmmaking brothers had no involvement in that show.
