MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Ethan Finlay scored against his former team in the 70th minute, and Minnesota United held on for a 1-0 win over the Columbus Crew on Saturday night.
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota United made the first game at Allianz Field a real show, with end-to-end action that entertained the raucous fans as much as the new stadium itself.
Christian Ramirez had just lofted in the Loons’ best chance at a goal about 25 minutes into this past Saturday’s game against Houston with a floating distance strike. The striker had played his way back into the starting lineup after scoring his first goal of the season a week ago in Seattle, but his comeback was cut short.
Minnesota United is having some pretty bad luck when it comes to knees this year.
Winger Ethan Finlay tore his ACL in his right knee, the club announced Tuesday. He is the second player to go down with this season-ending injury, as starting midfielder Kevin Molino also tore his ACL in his left knee during the March 10 game at Orlando City.
With five starters missing and three players making their MLS debuts this past Saturday at the New York Red Bulls, maybe the result wasnt so surprising for Minnesota United.
In fact, a year ago when the team was without 10 players in this fourth match of the season when national team call-ups pile up with any injuries and suspensions, the Loons lost in a 5-2 blowout. So 3-0 this time around was a bit of an improvement.
