Kessel, Malkin lead surging Penguins past Capitals, 7-4
PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Penguins spent the first three months of the regular season looking tired, lethargic, blah.
Then the calendar flipped to January and the urgency the Penguins lacked for long stretches as they slogged through their opening 40 games returned. So did the goals. Now they're coming bunches and so are the wins. And suddenly a legitimate shot at a three-peat doesn't seem quite so far-fetched after all.
PITTSBURGH – Amid an up-and-down season in which losses have been almost as common as wins, the Pittsburgh Penguins haven’t consistently skated as the powerhouse that became reigning back-to-back Stanley Cup champions.
But they certainly did Thursday night in a 6-3 victory over the Wild in front of an announced 18,453 at PPG Paints Arena. They flexed more than enough skill to nix the Wild’s season-high six-game point streak and halt its momentum going into the All-Star break.

Hornqvist gets 2 goals, Penguins beat slumping LA Kings 3-1
