Brooks, No. 17 Houston beat Tulsa 77-65 for 20th win
TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Nate Hinton and No. 17 Houston heated up in a hurry.
Hinton hit a tough 3-pointer as the Cougars broke away late in the first half, becoming the first Division I men's team to reach 20 wins this season by beating Tulsa 77-65 Sunday.
Armoni Brooks scored 22 points, including six 3-pointers, for the Cougars (20-1, 7-1 American Athletic Conference).
Robinson, Brooks rally No. 24 Houston past LSU, 82-76
HOUSTON (AP) — Galen Robinson Jr. heard the "LSU! LSU!" chants with Houston down 15 points in the second half.
"It really touched a nerve, so I was like, 'There's no way I'm quitting, no way we are losing this game.'" Robinson said. "That's the mindset that I had."
Robinson scored 18 points, Armoni Brooks added 13 — all in the second half — and No. 24 Houston overcame the big deficit to beat LSU 82-76 on Wednesday night.
Atascotia alums Carsen Edwards and Fabian White, Jr. are going dancing.
After three district MVPs, four all-region selections and three first team all-state selections between the two at Atascocita, both have continued their educational and basketball careers at Division I colleges. Now the two are headed for the NCAA Tournament - the pinnacle of college basketball.
"I'm very excited," White said. "It's something the team has been talking about since the beginning of the season."
Houston dissects cold-shooting Tulane 73-42
HOUSTON (AP) — Devin Davis scored 16 points, Armoni Brooks had a double-double and Houston throttled Tulane 73-42 on Sunday to stay in a tie for second place in the American Athletic Conference standings with Wichita State.
Houston hosts conference leader, and sixth-ranked, Cincinnati (23-2, 12-0) on Thursday.
Brooks finished with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
The Cougars capped a 10-0 run with Fabian White Jr.'s dunk that made it 19-7 with 11:49 before intermission and the Cougars never looked back.
Houston downs cold-shooting USF 63-40 behind Davis and White
HOUSTON (AP) — Corey Davis Jr. scored 17 points and made 4 of 5 3-pointers and Fabian White Jr. had a double-double and Houston beat struggling South Florida 63-40 on Sunday.
White scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, and he and Davis combined for 13-of-19 shooting.
The Bulls made just 15 field goals and missed 14 of 23 free throws. Houston (16-4, 6-2 American) dominated inside with a 46-31 rebounding advantage.
Houston controls East Carolina from outset 65-49
GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Corey Davis Jr. scored 20 points, Fabian White Jr. added 17 with six rebounds and three blocks and Houston easily handled East Carolina with a 65-49 win on Sunday.
Davis and White combined to shoot 15 for 22 from the field, though the rest of the Cougars mustered just 11-of-44 shooting. Rob Gray added 12 points with nine assists.
Brady scores 21, Houston holds off Temple for 76-73 win
HOUSTON (AP) — Breaon Brady scored a career-high 21 points, on 8-of-9 shooting, and grabbed nine rebounds and Houston held off a late rally by Temple for a 76-73 win on Saturday night.
Brady, a JUCO transfer, left the game midway through the second half with an apparent ankle injury.
Houston tops S. Florida 79-60 behind Davis and Brooks
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Corey Davis Jr., scored 15 points and Armoni Brooks scored 14 and Houston defeated South Florida 79-60 Thursday for the Cougars' third straight win.
Rob Gray added 11 points for Houston and Devin Davis had 10. Houston (11-2) now has won 10 of 11. South Florida (7-7) saw its three-game win streak come to an end. Justin Brown led the Bulls with 16 points, David Collins, 15 and Isaiah Manderson 10.
Atascocita looks different this season.
The Eagles boys basketball squad ran everything through 6-7 forward Fabian White last season, offensively and defensively, and now he's a freshman at Houston, leaving a big hole on the floor.
And his departure is only the most visible personnel change they've endured.
Houston rolls to 97-58 win over Incarnate Word
HOUSTON (AP) — Wes VanBeck and Rob Gray scored 16 points apiece and led six players in double figures as Houston rolled to a 97-58 win over Incarnate Word on Saturday night.
Fabian White Jr. added 14 points and 12 rebounds for the Cougars (4-1). Corey Davis Jr. also had 14 points and Devin Davis and Armoni Brooks had 10 apiece. The team averaged 53 percent from the field compared to 32 percent for Incarnate Word.
