University officials said a grand opening will be held Tuesday for the pantry, which is a partnership with Food Lion. The grocery store chain provided $10,000 in product, shelving and laptops to get the pantry started.

News outlets report 52-year-old Anthony Keith Grant, of North Charleston, was arrested Monday. Fayetteville police spokesman Shawn Strepay says Grant is charged in a 1987 rape.
Police say Grant raped a convenience store employee and then robbed the business.

Man in wheelchair struck while crossing street ID’d
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Police have identified the North Carolina man who died when officers say a pickup truck driver struck him as he tried to cross the street in his motorized wheelchair.
Citing Fayetteville police, WRAL-TV reported Sunday the dead man as 67-year-old Joseph Timothy Newman, also of Fayetteville.
Police: Person riding motorized wheelchair hit, killed
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Police say a North Carolina person riding a motorized wheelchair was killed when they were hit by a pickup truck.
News outlets report Fayetteville police say the unidentified person was trying to cross a street Friday when they were hit by the truck about 1:30 p.m. The pickup driver stopped at the scene of the accident. Officials say the collision split the wheelchair into two pieces.
The victim was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where they died.

Police: Woman shot during downtown New Year’s celebration

Police said in a statement Tuesday that the shooting happened just minutes after midnight amid the celebration. Thirty-one-year-old Travis Wilmoth of Fayetteville was sentenced last week after pleading guilty to traveling with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a minor.
