Rodney was acquired from Minnesota on Aug. 9 for minor league pitcher Dakota Chalmers. Rodney went 1-1 with a 3.92 ERA in 22 games for the A's after saving 25 games for the Twins before the deal.

Herrmann homer lifts Mariners past A’s, gives Astros AL West
SEATTLE (AP) — Pinch-hitter Chris Herrmann's two-run homer in the 11th inning gave the Seattle Mariners a 10-8 win over Oakland on Tuesday night, clinching the AL West for Houston and leaving the Athletics with a wild-card matchup against the New York Yankees.
Seattle overcame an 8-5 eighth-inning deficit and dropped the A's 2½ games behind the Yankees for home-field advantage in the Oct. 3 winner-take-all matchup. Oakland had been 68-0 when leading after seven innings.
Perez hits game-ending slam as Royals beat Twins 8-4
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — It has been one rough year for the Kansas City Royals.
Not this night, though. This one was fun.
Salvador Perez capped Kansas City's five-run ninth inning with a game-ending grand slam, lifting the Royals to an 8-4 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Friday.
Yankees homer twice late to beat Athletics 5-1
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Luke Voit let a changeup go by for a called strike on the first pitch from Fernando Rodney in the eighth inning. When the Athletics reliever tried sneaking another changeup past him, Voit sent it soaring into the left-field stands.

Piscotty, A’s beat Seattle 8-2 to increase wild-card lead

Diaz gets 49th save, Haniger HR lifts Mariners over Dbacks
PHOENIX (AP) — Edwin Diaz was thrilled to set a Seattle Mariners franchise record with his 49th save. He's really looking forward to the next one, though.
Maybe a little more than manager Scott Servais — who has promised to match Diaz's funky haircut when his All-Star closer reaches No. 50.
"I want to get my 50 to see the haircut," Diaz said after he closed out Seattle's 6-3 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday night. "If I do it here on the road I will bring the barber."
Rodney returns to Minnesota, now a key piece of Oakland pen
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota's Target Field was the perfect place for Fernando Rodney to perform his patented post-save celebrations , when the 41-year-old right-hander leans back to pretend he's pulling a bow and shoots an imaginary arrow high into the sky.

A’s bolster deep bullpen by acquiring Twins closer Rodney
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — The Oakland Athletics have acquired closer Fernando Rodney from the Minnesota Twins.
The A's sent minor league right-hander Dakota Chalmers to Minnesota on Thursday to complete the deal that adds more depth to Oakland's stellar bullpen.
The 41-year-old Rodney is 3-2 with 25 saves and a 3.09 ERA in 46 relief appearances for Minnesota this season. The right-handed Rodney has 325 career saves, 17th most in baseball history.
Rodney K’s Lindor to end Twins’ 3-2 win over Indians
CLEVELAND (AP) — Minnesota's pitching staff rebounded from a double-digit loss with a gritty win Tuesday night.
Fernando Rodney struck out Francicso Lindor with the tying run on second base in the ninth inning after Adalberto Mejia pitched one-hit ball over five innings, and the Twins beat the Cleveland Indians 3-2.
Cave’s grand slam lifts Twins past Royals
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Twins' blueprint for 2018 included a dynamic young center fielder making great plays on defense and coming up with big hits. Of course, that role was supposed to be filled by Byron Buxton, once considered the top prospect in baseball.
Instead, the Twins are rallying around Jake Cave.
Cave hit his first career grand slam and closer Fernando Rodney survived a chaotic ninth inning as the Minnesota Twins beat the Kansas City Royals 6-5 on Sunday.
RBI double by Garver lifts Twins over Red Sox 2-1
BOSTON (AP) — The Red Sox had a big offensive night washed away by rain in their series finale against the Orioles.
In their series opener against the Twins, it was Kyle Gibson who shut them down.
Mitch Garver hit a tiebreaking RBI double with two outs in the eighth inning, and Minnesota held on to beat Boston 2-1 on Thursday night.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Aaron Slegers and Jake Cave have been called up from Triple-A by the Minnesota Twins three times apiece this season, and the All-Star break is still more than one week away.
Their contributions to this struggling team on Thursday night were sure worthy of a longer stay.
CHICAGO (AP) — Max Kepler drew a two-out walk with the bases loaded in the 13th inning and the Minnesota Twins outlasted the Chicago White Sox 2-1 Thursday.
The Twins pushed across the go-ahead run after Logan Morrison doubled off left fielder Charlie Tilson's glove with two outs. Hector Santiago (2-3), the sixth White Sox reliever, intentionally walked Ehire Adrianza before walking Jake Cave and Kepler.
Alan Busenitz (2-0), the Twins' sixth reliever, pitched 1 2/3 innings for the win.
DETROIT (AP) — Miguel Cabrera ruptured his left biceps tendon Tuesday night, an injury that will sideline the slugger for the rest of the season, and the Detroit Tigers lost 6-4 to the Minnesota Twins.
The two-time AL MVP will have surgery this week, the Tigers said. Cabrera, playing his 12th game since missing 26 with a hamstring strain, exited in the third inning and underwent an MRI during the game.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Logan Morrison came through with a big hit for the injury-decimated Minnesota Twins lineup.
Morrison hit a two-run single to give Minnesota's offense a much-needed lift, and four relievers worked 3 1/3 scoreless innings in a 3-1 win over the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday.
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Eddie Rosario scored from first on Mitch Garver's double in the 12th inning and the Minnesota Twins beat the Los Angeles Angels 5-3 Saturday night.
After Jefry Marte grounded out on a weak ball back to Trevor Hildenberger (1-0) with the bases loaded to end the 11th, Rosario came all the way around on Garver's ground ball down the third-base line to put the Twins back in front. Rosario, who went 2 for 4, had singled on a ground ball past Noe Ramirez (1-2).
Twins snap 8-game skid, beat Reds 3-1
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Jake Odorizzi and the Minnesota Twins pitched their way out of a rough slide.
Odorizzi worked into the seventh inning, Mitch Garver homered and the Twins snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 3-1 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday.
The 28-year-old Odorizzi (2-2), who was acquired in an offseason trade with Tampa Bay, gave up one run and five hits. He had dropped each of his last two starts, allowing nine runs in 9 2/3 innings.
NEW YORK – Kyle Gibson flirted with a no-hitter, and it didn’t matter. The Twins finally took advantage of the short fences here, even out-homered the Yankees, and it made no difference. You get the feeling that New York could have worn ski boots and hit with rolled-up newspapers, and the outcome would have been the same.
This is Yankee Stadium. These are the Twins. By now, you know the ending.
NEW YORK (AP) — Gary Sanchez had a moment he will remember.
Sanchez hit a three-run homer off Fernando Rodney in the ninth inning, and the New York Yankees rallied to beat the Minnesota Twins 4-3 to complete a four-game sweep and extend their winning streak to six.
"It's definitely a very exciting moment," Sanchez said through a translator. "The other special moment for me was when we made it to the playoffs last year, so this one is definitely up there."
If the rumors were true that the Twins backed away from a trade with Tampa Bay for starting pitcher Chris Archer because the Rays wanted Max Kepler in the deal, the right fielder proved why it was a smart decision to veto that trade Wednesday.
BALTIMORE On Opening Day a year ago, Nationals reliever Brandon Kintzler was the Minnesota Twins' closer, on his way to a career-high 28 saves before a mid-season trade to Washington.
A lot has changed since, for both the veteran pitcher and the young arms in Minnesota he helped mentor.
Kintzler, 33, was a free agent this winter and re-upped with the Nationals, even though he figures to be a setup man for new manager Dave Martinez.
Theyve had a short lefthander throwing sliders, and a tall righthander chucking fastballs. Theyve used Everyday and Aggie, and even a guy named Brandon who had never tried the job before.
Over the years, the Twins have utilized All-Star closers of all shapes and stripes. So why not an archer?
Im not sure what hes shooting at, manager Paul Molitor quipped of his demonstrative new closer, but I know its better if he hits it.
FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — Told that Ichiro Suzuki wants to play until he's 50, Fernando Rodney smiled.
"He can. He feels good. He feels ready to go," the Minnesota Twins closer said. "I think he loves the game. When you love something, you can say that."
"I love the game, too. But 50 is a lot," he said.
Rodney turns 41 on Sunday and is now with his ninth team. He enters his 16th season as baseball's active leader with 300 saves.
FORT MYERS, Fla. Garvin Alston walked past Lance Lynns locker and noticed all the media members waiting for the Twins new righthander. The Twins pitching coach stopped and asked rhetorically, Hows that for a debut?
Yep, the starting pitcher who hadnt faced a batter yet this spring couldnt have been better, going three hitless innings a day after signing a one-year contract, striking out five of the 10 hitters he faced, and not allowing a ball to reach the outfield.
FORT MYERS, FLA. During the Twins organizational meetings last winter, Paul Molitor made a request of the teams front office: Dont leave me without a closer.
I said, Closer is important for me,andthinsp; the Twins manager recalled. Its easier to build outs to the closer than to try to have competition for a closer in the spring.
Adding Addison: Signing Reed gives Twins big bullpen boost
FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — The Minnesota Twins signed Fernando Rodney to be their closer, bringing his 300 career saves to a bullpen that's needed a boost for several seasons.
In an age when ninth-inning use isn't necessarily for a team's best reliever anymore, Addison Reed might have been the more valuable addition.
