Americans Chock and Bates win ice dancing at Four Continents
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — The American ice dance duo of Madison Chock and Evan Bates gained some huge momentum with the World Championships a month away.
Chock and Bates captured the first major international title of their career Sunday at the Four Continents Figure Skating Championships.
They scored 126.25 points during their free dance, which was to a medley of Elvis Presley tunes, and finished with 207.42 points to edge Canadians Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje, who totaled 203.93 points.
Japan’s Shoma Uno takes men’s title at Four Continents
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Shoma Uno was the first skater in Saturday's final group of the men's free skate at the Four Continents Figure Skating Championships. He ended up executing a flawless program that no one was able to match.
The Japanese skater won the men's title by successfully landing three quadruple jumps during his four-minute program, including one in combination. The 197.36 points was the highest score in an international competition this season.

Fernandez retires with 7th European figure skating title
MINSK, Belarus (AP) — Javier Fernandez ended an illustrious figure skating career with his seventh consecutive European title after Russian rival Mikhail Kolyada floundered in the free skate on Saturday.
Fernandez was third after the short program but in the free skate he stormed into the lead with two quadruple jumps and 179.75 points for a total of 271.59.
Liu takes women’s title at nationals at age 13
DETROIT (AP) — Alysa Liu was already a phenom. Now she's a national champion at age 13.
Liu stole the show Friday night, breezing through a free skate that included two triple axels and dethroning 2018 winner Bradie Tennell at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships. Liu became the youngest winner of an individual title at this event, and after her score was posted, she put her hands over her face, overcome with emotion .
Samodurova beats Zagitova to European figure skating gold
MINSK, Belarus (AP) — Sofia Samodurova stormed past fellow Russian and Olympic champion Alina Zagitova to win the European figure skating title on Friday.
Samodurova's clean free skate included seven triple jumps and scored a personal best 140.96 for a total of 213.84, 15.50 points ahead of Zagitova in the duel of the two 16-year-olds.
Zagitova, who led after the short program, fell on a triple toe loop and put her hand down on a triple lutz. She was tearful when receiving her marks.
Tennell, Liu top standings after short program at nationals

USFS executives urge full investigation in Coughlin case
DETROIT (AP) — Two U.S. Figure Skating executives urged a full investigation into abuse allegations against former skater and coach John Coughlin, who killed himself last week.
Anne Cammett, president of the federation, and David Raith, USFS executive director, held a news conference at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships on Thursday. Cammett mentioned abuse allegations against Coughlin, but she and Raith did not go into detail.

Suspended pairs skating champion John Coughlin dies at 33
John Coughlin, a two-time U.S. pairs champion recently suspended from figure skating, died by suicide in Kansas City, Missouri. He was 33.
U.S. Figure Skating released a statement Saturday and cited his sister, Angela Laune. The sister said in a Facebook post that her "wonderful, strong, amazingly compassionate brother John Coughlin took his own life. ... I have no words." There were no further details from her.

TOKYO (AP) — Two-time Olympic champion Yuzuru Hanyu of Japan will miss the Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final due to a right ankle injury, the Japan Skating Federation said Thursday.
The 23-year-old Hanyu twisted his right ankle during a practice at the Rostelecom Cup on Nov. 17, and will be unable to compete in the Dec. 6-8 GP Final in Vancouver, Canada.
Hanyu's withdrawal means Shoma Uno will be the lone Japanese male taking part.
Chen, Kihira win figure skating in France to reach GP Final
GRENOBLE, France (AP) — World champion Nathan Chen won the last round of figure skating's Grand Prix series and secured a spot in next month's final with a pulsating free skate at the Internationaux de France on Saturday.
Oozing confidence despite an untidy short program on Friday, the American skater outclassed the field in scoring 184.64 for an event-winning total of 271.58. He won by 15 points.

MOSCOW (AP) — Japan's Yuzuru Hanyu won gold at the Rostelecom Cup, the fifth of six Grand Prix figure skating events, despite an ankle injury that left him on crutches after the competition.
Hanyu, the Olympic gold medalist, started strongly on Saturday with two clean quads and appeared to be his usual assured self, but he stepped out of his second pass at a quad toe loop then fell on a triple and singled an axel.
