MONTPELLIER, France (AP) — Former champion Tomas Berdych reached the Open Sud de France semifinals the hard way, saving two match points in a 7-6 (3), 6-7 (5), 7-5 win against Filip Krajinovic on Friday.
The two players were meeting for the first time on the ATP Tour, and made it a match to remember.
Berdych sweeps aside Paire at Open Sud de France; Goffin out
MONTPELLIER, France (AP) — Former champion Tomas Berdych swept aside Benoit Paire 6-2, 6-0 in less than one hour on Wednesday to reach the Open Sud de France quarterfinals.
The unseeded Czech broke Paire's serve five times, and saved both break points he faced against the eighth-seeded Frenchman. Berdych, who won the indoor hardcourt title in 2012, next faces Filip Krajinovic of Serbia in their first meeting on the ATP Tour.
Tomas Berdych enjoys winning return to Open Sud de France
MONTPELLIER, France (AP) — Former champion Tomas Berdych made a winning return to the Open Sud de France on Tuesday with a 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 victory over German qualifier Matthias Bachinger.
Berdych, who won the hardcourt title in 2012, saved seven of the 11 break points he faced to win in 2 hours, 12 minutes.
The Czech player will next face eighth-seeded Benoit Paire, who defeated Evgeny Donskoy of Russia 7-5, 6-3. Berdych has won all three previous meetings against the French player.
Ex-champs Serbia, Germany, Russia reach new Davis Cup Finals
Serbia held off a spirited fightback by Uzbekistan to clinch a berth in the finals tournament of the revamped Davis Cup on Saturday.
The 2010 champion seemed in control of the tie with a 2-0 lead after straight-set wins by Dusan Lajovic and Filip Krajinovic. But Uzbekistan leveled at 2-2 and Sanjar Fayziev took the opening set in the deciding fifth rubber. Krajinovic, however, won the next two sets to send Serbia through.
Germany, Serbia, Russia lead on Day 1 of revamped Davis Cup
Alexander Zverev gave Germany a commanding 2-0 lead over Hungary in the revamped Davis Cup on the opening day Friday.
The third-ranked Zverev, who has repeatedly criticized the event's format changes, eased past Peter Nagy 6-2, 6-2 to double Germany's advantage after Philipp Kohlschreiber rallied to beat Zsombor Piros 6-7 (6), 7-5, 6-4.

BASEL, Switzerland (AP) — Roger Federer was tested by Filip Krajinovic before winning 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 in the first round of his hometown tournament Swiss Indoors on Tuesday.
Seeking a ninth title at Basel — where he has once a ball boy and reached the final in his last 11 appearances — Federer last dropped a set in his opening match 10 years ago.
The top-seeded Swiss seemed in control after winning seven straight games to take the first set and lead by a break in the second.
Del Potro qualifies for ATP Finals, reaches Beijing quarters
BEIJING (AP) — Juan Martin del Potro qualified for the ATP Finals for the fifth time by beating Karen Khachanov 6-4, 7-6 (4) Wednesday at the China Open.
Del Potro, who reached the U.S. Open final this year, last qualified for the season-ending tournament for the top eight players in the world in 2013.
Del Potro will next meet Filip Krajinovic in the quarterfinals in Beijing. Krajinovic defeated Feliciano Lopez 7-6 (5), 6-3.
Nishikori beats defending champ Gojowczyk at Moselle Open
METZ, France (AP) — Top-seeded Kei Nishikori reached the quarterfinals of the Moselle Open by beating defending champion Peter Gojowczyk of Germany, 7-6 (4), 6-3 on Wednesday.
Gojowczyk earned his maiden ATP title in Metz last year but couldn't save either of the two break points he faced against Nishikori, which was enough for the Japanese player to wrap up the win in 1 hour, 33 minutes.
Federer opens Indian Wells title defense with 2-day win
INDIAN WELLS, Calif. (AP) — Roger Federer completed a rain-delayed debut match at the BNP Paribas Open on Sunday with a 6-3, 7-6 (6) win over Federico Delbonis of Argentina.
On Saturday, Federer led 6-3, 2-2 when the match was delayed by a heavy drizzle 56 minutes after it began. Federer, who earned his fifth title at Indian Wells last year, saved a set point in the second-set tiebreaker and advanced to face Filip Krajinovic on Monday.
Pouille reaches 3rd ATP final in 4 weeks in Dubai
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Lucas Pouille made it to his third ATP final in four weeks after overcoming Filip Krajinovic 6-3, 6-7 (4), 7-6 (5) in the Dubai Championships semifinals on Friday.
Pouille, who won in Montpellier and lost in the final of Marseille in the past three weeks, will take on third-seeded Roberto Bautista Agut, who ended the dream run of Tunisian wild card Malek Jaziri 6-3, 6-4.
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Lucas Pouille moved to within a win of reaching three consecutive tennis finals when he overcame Yuichi Sugita 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the quarterfinals of the Dubai Championships on Thursday.
The second-seeded Pouille won in Montpellier last month and was runner-up in Marseille last week.

MARSEILLE, France (AP) — Third-seeded Frenchman Lucas Pouille and fourth-seeded Czech Tomas Berdych advanced to the Open 13 semifinals on Friday.
Pouille beat eighth-seeded Filip Krajinovic of Serbia 7-6 (5), 3-6, 6-4, hitting 20 aces and securing victory on his first match point when he broke Krajinovic's serve for the first time.
Berdych led 7-6 (4) when seventh-seeded Damir Dzumhur of Bosnia-Herzegovina pulled out feeling sickly.
Krajinovic, Khachanov reach 2nd round of Open 13
MARSEILLE, France (AP) — Eighth-seeded Serb Filip Krajinovic and ninth-seeded Russian Karen Khachanov advanced to the second round of the Open 13 on Tuesday.
Krajinovic rallied to beat Joao Sousa of Portugal 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 — with both players hitting six aces and dropping serve three times— while Khachanov had 15 aces in a 6-3, 7-6 (2) win against Ruben Bemelmans of Belgium.
Sock not on US Davis Cup roster to face no-Djokovic Serbia
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) — Sam Querrey, John Isner, Ryan Harrison and Steve Johnson are on the U.S. Davis Cup roster that will play at Serbia — minus Novak Djokovic — in the first round next month.
The highest-ranked American man, No. 9 Jack Sock, was not included in captain Jim Courier's team, which was announced Tuesday.
Sock, No. 16 Isner and No. 48 Steve Johnson lost in the first round at the Australian Open. No. 13 Querrey got beaten in the second round and No. 45 Harrison the third.

PARIS (AP) — After being one game away from going home early in the tournament, Jack Sock won the Paris Masters on Sunday to qualify for the season-ending ATP Finals in London.
Sock beat Filip Krajinovic 5-7, 6-4, 6-1. It is easily the biggest trophy so far in the 25-year-old American's career.
Before coming to Paris the 16th-seeded Sock didn't even think of London.
Krajinovic upsets Isner to face Sock in Paris Masters final
PARIS (AP) — Qualifier Filip Krajinovic reached the Paris Masters final after upsetting John Isner 6-4, 6-7 (2), 7-6 (5) on Saturday.
Isner was also playing for a berth in the elite eight-man ATP Finals, and that ended, too.
Krajinovic slid onto his back and sobbed, his arms raised, after sealing victory on his first match point. The Serb then knelt and kissed the court.
Nadal pulls out of Paris Masters with right knee injury
PARIS (AP) — Rafael Nadal pulled out of the Paris Masters on Friday because of a right knee injury, putting in doubt his participation in the ATP finals.
The top-ranked Spaniard, who had his knee taped during the third set of his third-round win over Pablo Cuevas, said he wouldn't be able to play Serbian qualifier Filip Krajinovic.
No. 1 Nadal remains on track for first Paris Masters title
PARIS (AP) — Rafael Nadal remains on track for an elusive Paris Masters title after beating Pablo Cuevas 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-3 to reach the quarterfinals on Thursday.

LILLE, France (AP) — Two-time Grand Slam champions Nicolas Mahut and Pierre-Hugues Herbert beat Filip Krajinovic and Nenad Zimonjic 6-1, 6-2, 7-6 (3) for France to lead Serbia 2-1 in the Davis Cup semifinals on Saturday.
Apart from a scare in the third set when the Serb pair won four games in a row, Mahut and Herbert were in control on the indoor clay court and put France one win away from its 18th Davis Cup final.
Pouille to open for France in Davis Cup semifinals
LILLE, France (AP) — Lucas Pouille and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will lead nine-time champion France in the opening singles against Serbia in the Davis Cup semifinals.
In the absence of Novak Djokovic, Pouille will take on 80th-ranked Dusan Lajovic on clay at the Pierre Mauroy Stadium in the northern city of Lille. Viktor Troicki and Janko Tipsarevic are also missing for Serbia.
Tsonga will then play against 22-year-old Davis Cup debutant Laslo Djere.
