Matheson tipped in a pass from Jonathan Huberdeau from the slot, saving Florida after the Panthers let in the tying goal midway through the third period. That came two nights after allowing three third-period goals in a 3-2 loss to the Blues.

Penguins turn to youth, land Bjugstad, McCann from Panthers

NEW YORK (AP) — Montreal Canadiens forward Paul Byron was suspended for three games without pay by the NHL on Wednesday for charging Florida Panthers defenseman MacKenzie Weegar.
Byron was assessed a minor penalty for charging in the second period of Montreal's 5-1 home victory Tuesday night. The suspension will cost Byron $18,817.
Byron has 10 goals and eight assists in 34 games this season.

MONTREAL (AP) — Antti Niemi experienced two firsts in net for the Montreal Canadiens.
First, Niemi made a career-high 52 stops as the Canadiens extended their win streak to three games with a 5-1 victory over the Florida Panthers.
Niemi finished one save shy of the Canadiens' franchise record for saves in a game by a goaltender.

Panthers’ Trocheck back on ice, continuing ankle rehab
CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. (AP) — Florida Panthers center Vincent Trocheck was back on the ice and skating Friday, barely six weeks removed from fracturing his right ankle.
The team released a photo of Trocheck on the ice before the team practiced. There is still no timetable for his return.
