Trail runner recounts life-or-death fight with mountain lion
FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) — When a young mountain lion clamped its jaws onto Travis Kauffman's wrist and clawed at his face, he screamed a "barbarian yell," jammed his foot onto the animal's neck and held it there until the cat quit thrashing and died.
After a couple of minutes, Kauffmann recalled Thursday, "it finally stopped moving and then the jaws opened and I was able to kind of scramble back up the hill and get the heck out of Dodge."

The Fort Collins Coloradoan reports 43-year-old Daniel Reffett of Fort Collins died Sunday at a hospital.
The coroner's office has ruled his death as suicide from complications of asphyxia.

Travis Kauffman said Thursday that he got one foot onto the cat's neck and held it there as the animal thrashed. Eventually the animal stopped moving, and Kauffman pulled out his arm and scrambled away.

The unidentified man was running alone at Horsetooth Mountain Open Space near Fort Collins on Monday when he heard a noise and turned back. That's when the mountain lion attacked, according to an account from Colorado Parks and Wildlife.
