Barcelona signs young Dutch midfielder De Jong for 75M euros
Barcelona signed promising 21-year-old Netherlands midfielder Frenkie de Jong from Ajax for 75 million euros ($85.5 million) on Wednesday, although he won't start playing for the Spanish champions until next season.
The deal could reach 86 million euros ($98 million) including possible add-ons depending on the youngster's and the team's performances during the five-year contract, which starts in July.
The transfer was finalized by Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu in Amsterdam.

AMSTERDAM (AP) — Memphis Depay stole the show Thursday by scoring both Dutch goals as the Netherlands beat Peru 2-1 in a friendly billed as a farewell to record midfielder Wesley Sneijder.
The match was the 134th and final international for Sneijder, the 34-year-old former Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Ajax star. It was also an important warmup for the Netherlands' first UEFA Nations League match - on Sunday against World Cup champion France at Saint-Denis.
De Jong gets 1st Netherlands call-up, Sneijder gets last
THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) — Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman opted for something old and something new Friday in naming his squad for upcoming matches against Peru and World Cup champion France.
Koeman picked 21-year-old Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong for the first time and called up veteran Wesley Sniejder for one final farewell.
The Dutch team will face Peru in a friendly on Sept. 6 before taking on France in the Nations League three days later.
