Freshman guard Keyontae Johnson and the rest of the Gators delivered against reeling Vanderbilt.

University of Florida gets 800 boxes of Bill Nelson’s papers
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — A collection of papers and other historical material spanning the 46-year career of former U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson has been sent to the University of Florida's George A. Smathers Libraries.
The university announced Tuesday that the collection includes 800 boxes of papers and more than six terabytes of electronic records.
Nelson, a Democrat, lost his re-election bid to former Florida Gov. Rick Scott in November after serving three terms in Washington.

Gainesville Police Chief Jay Parrish told a news conference Sunday that 24-year-old DeMarvin Bennett of East Point is being held in the slaying of 73-year-old Jack Hough.

Significant drop in shark bites reported worldwide in 2018
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — University of Florida researchers say far fewer shark bites were reported worldwide last year.
According to the university's International Shark Attack File, 66 bites were documented in 2018, compared with 88 the previous year. That's 26 percent lower than the five-year average of 84 bites annually. Thirty-two bites happened in U.S. waters.
Four of last year's bites were fatal, roughly keeping with the average of six deaths worldwide each year.
Gainesville no longer to use prison labor
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Officials in a Florida city have decided they will no longer use prison labor.
The Gainesville Sun reports that Gainesville city commissioners voted 5-1 on Thursday to terminate three contracts with the Florida Department of Corrections.
Commissioner Gail Johnson says it's wrong to use prison crews as unpaid manual labor. She called ending the contracts "a moral issue."
No. 7 Mississippi State rolls past Florida 90-42

Florida hires former Redskins assistant Gray as CBs coach
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Florida has hired Torrian Gray as its cornerbacks coach, bringing him back to Gainesville to replace Charlton Warren.
Warren left the Gators to take a similar position at rival Georgia.
Gray, who has 19 years of coaching experience, worked at Florida during the 2016 season. He spent the last two years with the NFL's Washington Redskins before being fired in January.

Florida construction worker survives being buried alive
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — A Florida construction worker is recovering after being buried alive.
An unidentified construction worker fell into a 30-foot (9-meter) hole and was completely covered by dirt Thursday. Gainesville Fire Rescuers used shovels and hands to dig through the dirt until they found the worker's head. Rescuers said he was breathing but not conscious.
Former Louisville linebacker Greenard enrolls at Florida

Pastor Eric Descant of Avoyelles House of Mercy Pentecostal church in Marksville, Louisiana, lost his 10-year-old granddaughter Brienna Descant in the Thursday crash that also injured his wife, Karen. Two tractor-trailer truck drivers were also killed.
