Snow goose hunt in Vermont runs March 11-April 26
MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — The Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department says the state's spring snow goose hunt will take place from March 11 through April 26.
Officials say each year since 2009 the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has issued an order allowing the reduction of the population of migrating greater and lesser snow geese and Ross' geese that have grown so much that the geese are destroying habitat for themselves and other species.
The daily bag limit for hunters in Vermont is 15 snow geese.
Midwinter survey shows geese numbers up in North Dakota
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota's annual midwinter waterfowl survey indicated about 99,000 Canada geese in the state, slightly above average.
The Game and Fish Department says the survey also tallied 5,300 mallard ducks, down from the 10-year average.

State to hold duck blind permit lotteries for hunters
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio's Department of Natural Resources is holding lottery drawings for more than 280 permits to hunters who want to construct a blind for hunting ducks and geese at select state park lakes in the waterfowl hunting season.
Portage Lakes will hold its lottery drawing Thursday. The drawings at 17 other participating state parks will be held Saturday. Applications at participating parks will be taken locally with the lottery drawings following registration.

Condo residents to vote on euthanizing geese
SOUTHINGTON, Conn. (AP) — Residents in a Connecticut retirement community are at odds over a plan to euthanize a flock of geese living in the area.
In a notice sent to residents, the Spring Lake Village association in Southington says the goose population has gotten out of control. The association is giving residents until April 6 to vote yes or no on a proposal to euthanize the animals.
Resident Susan Sullivan says she was "appalled" when she received the notice.

STEVENS, Pa. (AP) — It's 6:30 a.m. at Willow Point, a peninsula in the Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area and though it's foggy and not yet light, about 75 people are already clustered together listening to an estimated 135,000 snow geese psyching themselves into a take-off.

Thousands of visitors clog roads, fill refuge to see massive geese flock near Omaha
A massive number of snow geese drew one of the biggest flocks of visitors in at least two decades to a refuge north of Omaha this weekend.
More than 10,000 visitors showed up both Saturday and Sunday, the biggest count in 20 years at the DeSoto National Wildlife Refuge near Missouri Valley, Iowa, said Peter Rea, supervisory park ranger.
The visitor turnout grew so big that by late Saturday morning the refuge was asking people through social media not to come that day.
