Season that started so promising for Huskers takes bad turn
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — This breakout season for Nebraska has broken down.
The Cornhuskers sat 11-2 on New Year's Day, were in the national polls for the first time since 2014 and on pace to have their highest scoring team since the mid-1990s. They were playing like the team that was picked fourth in the Big Ten, and their nonconference resume prompted some early NCAA Tournament forecasters to pencil them in as high as a No. 3 seed.
Winston’s career-high 29 lifts No. 6 Spartans over Huskers
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Four nights after Tom Izzo called out Cassius Winston for his poor play in Michigan State's previous game, the Spartans' star point guard responded better than his coach would have expected.

Watson is glad he stuck around to be part of Nebraska’s rise
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Glynn Watson Jr. stayed when everybody else from his recruiting class left.
Don't think the fourth-year starting point guard hasn't imagined how sweet it would be if Nebraska makes good on buzz around college basketball about the Cornhuskers finally having a team capable of not just making the NCAA Tournament, but also making a run.
Two years ago, that would have been silly talk. Losses were piling up, players were fleeing and coach Tim Miles' job status was in question.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Nebraska found itself in the zone Monday night.

Big run sends Nebraska past Western Illinois 73-49

Last season: 22-11, lost in first round of NIT.
Coach: Tim Miles.
Conference: Big Ten.
Who's gone: Guard Evan Taylor, center Jordy Tshimanga, guard Anton Gill, center Duby Okeke.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — James Palmer Jr. played it cool after hitting the winning 3-pointer just before the buzzer to give Nebraska a 64-63 win over Illinois on Monday night.
Asked if he had ever done that before, he said, "Of course. You play basketball, you're going to hit a couple game-winners."
But even Palmer had to admit this one was special under the circumstances. The Cornhuskers were coming off a loss at Penn State on Friday and were on the verge of losing for the third time in four games.
