Nick Foles is proving to be Mr. Clutch
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Just call him Nicky Numbers.
Nick Foles is a backup quarterback in Philadelphia but he's one of the most clutch postseason players in NFL history and his stats prove it.
Foles has won four straight playoff games, leading the Eagles on game-winning drives in the fourth quarter in the Super Bowl last February and in a 16-15 victory at Chicago in a wild-card game last week.
Foles gives Eagles lift they need just in time to beat Bears
CHICAGO (AP) — The Philadelphia Eagles were desperately seeking a lift with little time left to save their season.
Nick Foles came through for the defending Super Bowl champions. And he did it just in time.
Foles threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to Golden Tate on fourth down in the final minute, and the Eagles hung on for a 16-15 wild-card victory over the Chicago Bears after Cody Parkey's missed field goal hit the upright and crossbar.
Parkey hits upright again, Bears lose to Eagles in wild card
CHICAGO (AP) — Cody Parkey sat by his locker with a glazed look, struggling to explain how he did it again.
The Chicago Bears' embattled kicker somehow managed to nail yet another upright and hit the crossbar while missing a 43-yard field goal in the closing seconds of a 16-15 wild-card loss to the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.
Foles leads Eagles to 16-15 upset of Bears
CHICAGO (AP) — The Philadelphia Eagles needed help to get into the playoffs, and Chicago provided it.
Look how the defending Super Bowl champions repaid the Bears.
Nick Foles hit Golden Tate with a 2-yard touchdown pass on fourth down with 56 seconds remaining against the NFL's stingiest defense, lifting the Philadelphia Eagles past the Chicago Bears 16-15 on Sunday in the final wild-card game.
Rivers versus Brady in divisional round of NFL playoffs
CHICAGO (AP) — Philip Rivers has come up empty against Tom Brady every time.
He gets another shot next weekend.
Rivers directed the Los Angeles Chargers to a 23-17 playoff victory at Baltimore on Sunday, setting up another high-stakes matchup with Brady and the New England Patriots. For all of Rivers' success during his 15 years in the NFL, he is winless in seven career starts against Brady.
Eagles stave off Bears on missed FG; Chargers edge Ravens
CHICAGO (AP) — Nick Foles hit Golden Tate with a 2-yard touchdown pass on fourth down with 56 seconds remaining against the NFL's stingiest defense, lifting the Philadelphia Eagles past the Chicago Bears 16-15 on Sunday in the final wild-card game.
Former Eagles kicker Cody Parkey hit the left upright and then the crossbar with a field-goal attempt from 43 yards with 10 seconds remaining, silencing the raucous crowd.
Bills wary of Lions QB Stafford despite drop in production
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Bills safety Micah Hyde can't forget the one and only time he picked off Detroit's Matthew Stafford.
It happened in the final minutes of Hyde's final regular-season game with the Packers, when he intercepted Stafford's attempt to Golden Tate at the goal line and helped seal Green Bay's NFC North-clinching 31-24 victory on Jan. 1, 2017.
New Eagles wideout Golden Tate is up on Cowboys rivalry
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — It didn't take Golden Tate long to learn his new team's biggest rival.
Tate, the playmaking wide receiver acquired from Detroit last week, will make his debut with the Philadelphia Eagles (4-4) against the Dallas Cowboys (3-5) on Sunday night.
"I've read my social media, so our fans have expressed the passionate dislike of the Cowboys," Tate said. "It's going to be a great game. I'm happy that my first game gets to be at home against such an intense opponent."
Sad sack Lions: Stafford downed 10 times in loss to Vikings
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Detroit Lions were at a disadvantage, playing in a deafening stadium against a daunting Minnesota defense that's rounding into form at midseason.
Eagles have tough road ahead after mediocre first half
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Repeating as Super Bowl champions already was a tough task before the Philadelphia Eagles had a mediocre first half.
The offense was inconsistent, the defense couldn't protect leads in the fourth quarter and injuries were a factor. So the Eagles entered their bye at 4-4 and were second behind Washington (5-2) in the NFC East.
They have a challenging schedule coming up and it's unlikely they'll win enough games to get a first-round bye if they can even catch the Redskins.
Lions moving on without Tate after trade to Eagles
ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) — The Detroit Lions had a lot of possible factors to weigh before trading Golden Tate.
The Lions are in last place, but only a game out of first. Tate is on pace for a third straight season with 1,000 yards receiving, but he's on an expiring contract.
"There are a lot of difficult decisions that are made in the NFL multiple times during the course of the year," Detroit coach Matt Patricia said Wednesday.
FANTASY PLAYS: New key roles for those left after NFL trades
This has been one of the more active NFL trade deadlines for fantasy purposes.
Fans of Houston, Philadelphia, and Baltimore are assuredly excited by their new players, picking up Demaryius Thomas, Golden Tate and Ty Montgomery. However, it's the teams that traded those players that will likely provide the most opportunity for fantasy value.
Lions sign linebacker Kelvin Sheppard
ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) — The Detroit Lions have signed free agent linebacker Kelvin Sheppard.
The Lions also announced Wednesday that they have signed defensive end Alex Barrett to the practice squad and released tight end Jerome Cunningham from the practice squad.
Undefeated Rams make splash at deadline trading for Fowler
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The NFL's lone undefeated team has just made an already dominant defensive front even deeper.
The Los Angeles Rams swapped a pair of draft picks for Jaguars pass rusher Dante Fowler on Tuesday, adding the third overall pick in 2015 to a defense already stocked with Aaron Donald, Ndamukong Suh, Michael Brockers and Mark Barron for the most surprising move at the NFL trade deadline.
Eagles trade 3rd-round pick to Lions for Golden Tate
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Golden Tate is bringing his show to Philadelphia.
The Eagles acquired the 30-year-old wide receiver nicknamed "Showtime" from the Detroit Lions for a 2019 third-round draft pick on Tuesday. Tate has 44 catches for 517 yards and three touchdowns this season.
He joins Alshon Jeffery, Nelson Agholor and Jordan Matthews, giving Carson Wentz another target to go along with tight ends Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert.
Golladay gives Detroit another impressive receiving threat
ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) — Kenny Golladay is making quite an impression on his fellow receivers in Detroit.
The second-year wideout had four catches for 98 yards and a touchdown Sunday in the Lions' 31-23 victory over Green Bay. He also had a touchdown called back because of a penalty.
Lions go into bye on a high after beating Packers 31-23
DETROIT (AP) — The Detroit Lions have beaten Aaron Rodgers- and Tom Brady-led teams this season.
And yes, they still have a losing record.
Detroit has provided glimpses of its potential, beating the Green Bay Packers 31-23 on Sunday in their first home game since dominating the New England Patriots.
NFL Notes: Lions’ Tate helps woman, girl after car accident
Detroit Lions wide receiver Golden Tate was driving to work Tuesday when he was behind a two-car accident on a freeway. He ended up spending about 45 minutes to help a woman and her young daughter.
"No one was stopping or getting out to see what was going on," Tate recalled. "I just put it in park, put my flashers on and made sure everything was OK. I made sure the car was off because it was smoking. I made sure the driver was OK, which she was. Then, I went straight to the little girl."
Golden performance not enough for Lions in loss at Cowboys
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Golden Tate caught the pass from Matthew Stafford in stride along the sideline, then slowed briefly to hold the ball out and show it to the defender before going into the end zone to put the Detroit Lions ahead with just over 2 minutes left in the game.
Strong defensive effort carries to Lions to 1st win
ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) — A day after their first win of the season, the change in the mood of the previously winless Detroit Lions was evident.
In one corner of the locker room, linebacker Marquis Flowers and running back LeGarrette Blount engaged in a heated debate over whether Kobe Bryant or LeBron James was the greater basketball player.
"Just coming in today, it was a little bit different," Lions wide receiver Golden Tate said. "It's kind of a sigh of relief."

ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) — Matthew Stafford dropped back and connected over the middle with Golden Tate.
Before the Detroit Lions lined up to take another snap in the two-minute drill, Stafford's short pass to Tate was shown on a pair of huge TV monitors.
ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) — Darius Slay lost his footing in coverage and landed on the grass. He limped off the field, trying to keep weight off his right leg.
The Detroit Lions cornerback was evaluated on the sideline and after rubbing and pointing to his right knee, he returned to practice Wednesday.
Was it scary, possibly getting injured early in training camp?
Lions Training Camp Capsule
DETROIT LIONS (9-7)
OPEN CAMP: July 27, Allen Park, Michigan
LAST YEAR: Early and late-season slides knocked team out of playoff contention and cost coach Jim Caldwell job. QB Matthew Stafford led pass-dependent offense with 1,000-yard WRs Marvin Jones and Golden Tate. CB Darius Slay emerged as one of league's best in coverage.
Allen Park — Over the next several days, leading up to the NFL draft, we'll take a position-by-position look at the Detroit Lions' roster situation and evaluate how the team might address these positions during the event. Today: Wide receivers and tight ends
■Current roster: Marvin Jones, Golden Tate, Kenny Golladay, TJ Jones, Bradley Marquez, Jace Billingsley, Andy Jones, Dontez Ford, Luke Willson, Michael Roberts, Levine Toilolo, Hakeem Valles, Brandon Barnes
Orlando, Fla. — The Detroit Lions have aggressively extended the contracts of a number of key contributors under general manager Bob Quinn, and if the pattern holds, wide receiver Golden Tate could be next on the docket.
Quinn said he hasn't thought that far ahead, preferring to explore that possibility later in the summer, well into the offseason program, and with the chaos of the draft in the rearview mirror.
Allen Park – The Detroit Lions have found a veteran tight end to bolster the team's thin depth chart at the position, signing former Seattle Seahawk Luke Willson to a one-year deal Wednesday morning.
The news appears to have been inadvertently broken by Lions receiver Golden Tate, who commented, "Welcome to the squad bro!!" on Willson's Instagram post bidding farewell to Seattle. The signing has since been confirmed by multiple outlets.
This is the seventh in a series looking at positional needs for the Detroit Lions in free agency. Teams can begin negotiating with free agents on March 12. The signing period opens March 14 at 4 p.m.
Allen Park – With a talented trio of targets under contract, the Detroit Lions are in good position at wide receiver entering free agency. The biggest decision the team faces at the position is whether to extend Golden Tate later this offseason.
NFL.com: Stafford-Jones ranks No. 6 among QB-WR duos
Matthew Stafford and Marvin Jones hooked up for nine touchdowns last season for the Detroit Lions, with Jones setting personal bests in receiving yards and yards per catch.
They formed one of the NFL's most potent duos through the air, ranking sixth among NFL.com's top QB-WR duos, posted Tuesday.
Friday nights Rolling Stone magazine party at International Market Square was one of those Super Bowl week shindigs where the crowd spent more time looking around the room than it did watching the performances. Too bad, because the live sets by hip-hop stars Migos and T-Pain both were rock-solid, while the celebrity spotting wasnt exactly super-exciting.

The Lions matched last season's 9-7 record, but not the playoff appearance.
A stuck-in-the-mud ground game that ranked last in the NFL in yards per game (76.3) and yards per carry (3.4) couldn't complement a passing attack that boasted a pair of 1,000-yard receivers in Marvin Jones Jr. and Golden Tate, and ranked just outside the NFL's top five.
Justin Rogers’ Lions grades: Stafford, receivers rise to fore in season finale
Detroit — Justin Rogers grades the Detroit Lions' performance in Sunday's 35-11 win over Green Bay Packers.
Matthew Stafford misfired on a couple throws to Eric Ebron, but was otherwise on point. Stafford showed good touch on a pair of deep balls to Marvin Jones and Kenny Golladay, and also connected with Golden Tate wide open in space out of play-action, resulting in a 71-yard score.
Detroit — Lions offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter showcased some creative play-calling in the closing minutes of a 35-11 victory over the Green Bay Packers.
Attempting a 2-point conversion following the team's final touchdown, Cooter dialed up a play that saw quarterback Matthew Stafford as the receiving target on the play.
Allen Park — If a crucial play might have gone a little differently in the Lions' collapse in Cincinnati on Sunday, the Lions still could be in the playoff hunt.
Cincinnati — Where was the challenge by Jim Caldwell?
It was a widespread question that flooded social media and had many scratching their heads after a critical fourth-quarter pass to Lions receiver Golden Tate was ruled incomplete in Sunday's 26-17 loss to the Bengals at Paul Brown Stadium.
Blue Christmas: Detroit Lions lose, out of playoffs
Cincinnati – The Detroit Lions have given their fans coal for Christmas.
With the Atlanta Falcons opening the door for a potential playoff berth to be clinched next week, the Lions fell short against a struggling and banged-up Bengals team on Sunday at Paul Brown Stadium, 26-17.
The loss officially eliminates the Lions from postseason contention and will make coach Jim Caldwell's job security the top story in town.
After win over Bears, Lions still face uphill climb
DETROIT (AP) — The Detroit Lions could enjoy the rest of their weekend, knowing their playoff hopes were still very much intact after a victory over Chicago on Saturday.
On Sunday, however, the scores from around the league gave the Lions little reason for excitement.
Lions, Bears meet with coaches hoping to return for 4th year
DETROIT (AP) — The Detroit Lions need a lot to go their way to get a postseason spot for the second straight year and third time in Jim Caldwell's four seasons.
"If we don't handle our business, it doesn't matter," Lions receiver Golden Tate said.
Allen Park — Richard Sherman, widely considered one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL, penned a piece for The Players' Tribune highlighting five of the league's most underrated receivers, and two Detroit Lions made the short list.
Sherman knows Golden Tate especially well, having been teammates in Seattle from 2011-13.
Allen Park — The Lions haven't been to the Super Bowl.
Receiver Golden Tate has been to the Super Bowl.
In February 2014 in Super Bowl XLVIII, his Seattle Seahawks beat the Denver Broncos and their historic offense, 43-8. Following the triumph, Tate left Seattle for a bigger payday in Detroit. Now in his fourth season with the Lions, a sense of frustration seems to be building with Tate, one of the more outspoken Lions when it comes to his desire to win at all costs.
Baltimore — Matthew Stafford's throwing hand is OK.
The Detroit Lions quarterback had to leave Sunday's 44-20 loss in the fourth quarter with a hand injury after he was accidentally stepped on by Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs.
Initially, there was concern the hand was broken and Stafford was quickly taken to the locker room for further evaluation.
Allen Park — Starting last year, the NFL loosened its stringent uniform policy for one week, allowing players to wear custom cleats supporting charities and causes. The Detroit Lions will join more than 800 players taking part in the program this week.
The causes are wide-ranging, but each has personal meaning. Wide receiver TJ Jones will wear cleats supporting The Lisa Foundation, a foundation focused on raising awareness of brain aneurysms. Jones lost his father, Andre, in 2011 to an aneurysm.
Allen Park — The quarterback position in the NFL is arguably the most polarizing in all of sports. While quarterbacks drop at an alarming rate every year with season-ending injuries, there are a special few who can build up impressive iron-man streaks.
Allen Park — Pardon the holiday delay, but here are 10 observations from our film review of the Detroit Lions' 30-23 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.
NO ANSWER FOR GRIFFEN
Even with left tackle Taylor Decker back in the fold, the Lions had no answer for Vikings defensive end Everson Griffen, who dominated the matchup. He proved to be tough to stop as both a pass rusher and a run defender.
