Auburn tries to regroup vs Liberty in between rivalry games
AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Just when Auburn's offense needed a pick-me-up, here comes Liberty.
The Tigers (6-4) continued to sputter offensively in a loss at No. 5 Georgia. Now, they face Liberty (4-5), which is allowing 39 points and 508.8 yards per game. So it at least shapes up to be a more promising matchup.
Auburn DE Nick Coe to miss game against Liberty with injury
AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Auburn defensive end Nick Coe will miss Saturday's game against Liberty with an unspecified injury.
Tigers coach Gus Malzahn said Tuesday that Coe has "got kind of a wrist-type situation." He says he's not ready to speculate on Coe's status for the regular season finale against No. 1 Alabama.
Coe leads the Tigers with seven sacks and 13.5 tackles for loss. He has also forced two fumbles.

No. 25 Texas A&M, Auburn square off in SEC matchup

"We went through a storm last week with all the negativity that goes with it," Malzahn said. "It either divides — and I think a lot of people root for that — or it brings you together."
Auburn trying to halt skid from top 10 to being unranked
AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Auburn's hopes for a repeat SEC West championship have vanished along with its national ranking.
Now, the Tigers are scrambling to keep the wheels from falling off a once-promising season. Auburn (4-3, 1-3 Southeastern Conference) is trying to rebound from back-to-back losses at Mississippi State and Tennessee and start to reverse a rapid fall from a No. 8 ranking.

No. 8 Auburn, Mississippi State work to improve offense
Auburn and Mississippi State are teams that still harbor hopes of challenging Alabama for the Southeastern Conference Western Division title.
That probably won't happen unless the Tigers and Bulldogs can fix their offense.
Both the eighth-ranked Tigers and Bulldogs have struggled to move the ball and score points this season, especially against good competition. Auburn (4-1, 1-1 SEC) ranks 12th out of 14 teams in the league in total offense with about 376 yards per game.

Auburn’s biggest concern: The running game of all things
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — The Auburn Tigers can usually be counted on for a strong running game with tailbacks routinely churning out 1,000-yard seasons and 100-yard games.
Now, an unproductive ground game is the biggest concern for Gus Malzahn and the eighth-ranked Tigers going into Saturday night's game at Mississippi State.
It's even more of a pressing issue with leading rusher JaTarvious Whitlow and two starting offensive linemen battling injuries.

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Before Auburn beat two No. 1 teams and played for a league title last season, the Tigers stumbled against LSU.
Going into Saturday's rematch, No. 7 Auburn is determined to mine the embarrassing loss for a silver lining while trying to avoid a repeat. Then-No. 10 Auburn (2-0) quickly jumped ahead 20-0 only to see the lead evaporate into a 27-23 defeat .
No. 7 Auburn routs Alabama State 63-9
AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Gus Malzahn was pleased with Auburn's performance in its Week 1 victory over Washington but said in the days following that the running game left some production to be desired, and that it would be the primary focus in practices leading up to the home opener.
The Tigers left no questions on Pat Dye Field about their ability to run the ball Saturday night.
No. 7 Auburn aiming to avoid FCS blues against Alabama State
AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — The Auburn Tigers face an entirely new challenge after winning a Top 10 matchup.

Warning for Washington, Auburn: Kickoff Game can be critical
ATLANTA (AP) — One game does not make or break a season.
Especially the opener.
Then again, the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game has often been an accurate predictor of where the season is headed for both teams.
Keep that in mind when No. 6 Washington faces No. 9 Auburn on Saturday.
The ramifications of this first-of-September contest might still be lingering come December.
No. 9 Auburn’s offense aiming for better start to season
AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Gus Malzahn and Auburn are trying to avoid their customary slow start offensively.
The ninth-ranked Tigers surely can't afford a sluggish opener Saturday against No. 6 Washington in Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium, where they dropped their final two games last season.
Auburn is 1-4 against Power Five opponents in the first three games going back to 2015, and the offense has looked downright messy at times even against FCS opponents.

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — The big question facing Auburn is no longer whether the Tigers can beat rivals Georgia and Alabama.

Auburn football: coaches and players get defensive after Peach Bowl loss
ATLANTA – In the postgame locker room Monday, Auburn players and coaches did the one thing they’ve done best throughout the then-completed 2017 season – play defense.
Following Auburn’s shocking 34-27 loss to Central Florida, the “lack of execution” cliché was in full effect from coaches and star players when asked about a motivational issue. The game was viewed as a Central Florida team playing for an undefeated season, while Auburn was simply trying to avoid an embarrassing upset.
