Hunters find mountain lion carcass in north-central Kansas
TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — State game wardens have confirmed a mountain lion carcass was found in north-central Kansas.
The Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism reported Thursday that hunters found the female lion's remains in Rooks County, just north of Hays.
The agency said the group of hunters contacted a local game warden. The incident is still under investigation.

The patrol says Ashlen Leigh Lemon, of Hays, died Tuesday afternoon in the one-vehicle crash in Geary County. The patrol says she lost control because of icy road conditions, hit the median and struck a guardrail.

HAYS, Kan. (AP) — Dozens of drivers crashed or needed help after heavy snow and strong winds created treacherous whiteout conditions in western Kansas.
Kansas Highway Patrol Lt. Stephen Larow says the agency responded to 29 crashes Thursday, including one that killed 16-old Jackson Buerge, of Overland Park, and three others with injuries. The patrol says Jackson was riding in a sport utility vehicle that a tractor-trailer rear-ended on a snow-covered stretch of Interstate 70 east of Colby.

HAYS, Kan. (AP) — A blizzard blanketed western Kansas with snow Thursday, causing whiteout conditions that led to numerous wrecks and highway closures, and knocked out power for thousands of homes.
The storm, which began late Wednesday, put about three dozen counties under blizzard warnings or winter storm warnings and advisories. The National Weather Service forecast accumulations of up to 12 inches (30 centimeters) of snow in some areas and drift-creating gusts of up to 50 mph (80 kph).

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — A Kansas Senate committee has approved three appointments to the Kansas Board of Regents.
Gov. Jeff Colyer appointed former Rep. Mark Hutton, a Republican from Wichita, and former state Sent. Allen Schmidt, a Democrat from Hays. as new members to the board. He also reappointed former Rep. Bill Feuerborn, a Democrat from Garnett.

Bryan Bennett, who taught political science, was placed on 18 months of probation Thursday for possession with intent to distribute a hallucinogenic drug. Three other felony drug charges were dropped as part of the plea deal.
Pennsylvania man returned to Kansas charged with 150 rapes
ABILENE, Kan. (AP) — A man arrested in June in Pennsylvania on a Dickinson County warrant involving 150 counts of rape is back in Kansas.
The Hays Post reports 44-year-old Eric Millsap, of McKeesport, Pennsylvania, arrived in Abilene on Monday. Dickinson County Attorney Andrea Purvis says he was extradited from the Allegheny County Jail in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

CODELL, Kan. (AP) — A Kansas town where a tornado struck three straight years is dedicating a steel cyclone sculpture to remember the triple tragedies.
The Salina Journal reports that the dedication ceremony is planned for Sunday in the tiny town of Codell, which is about 25 miles northeast of Hays. The tornados struck on May 20 of the years 1916, 1917 and 1918.

LARNED, Kan. (AP) — A former Pawnee County Sheriff's detective has admitted to stealing from the department, where his brother is sheriff.
The Hays Post reports 43-year-old Jeffrey Allen King of Larned pleaded guilty Monday to three felonies for thefts that occurred between Jan. 9, 2015, and Oct. 13, 2017.
A total of $20,318 was stolen from the sheriff's department.

Kobach's office said Thursday that the charges involve two people accused of double voting in Kansas and Colorado in 2016. They are among 15 people to be charged since Kobach obtained the authority to prosecute voter fraud cases in 2015. Kobach is a candidate for Kansas governor.

SkyWest to offer flights to Chicago, Denver from Salina
SALINA, Kan. (AP) — Airplane passengers in Salina will soon have a few more flights with larger planes for trips to Denver and Chicago.
Salina Airport Authority Tim Rogers says SkyWest Airlines will provide flights from Salina to and from Denver and Chicago beginning in April.

No charges in fatal shooting involving Ellis County deputy
HAYS, Kan. (AP) — The Ellis County Attorney's Office says an officer involved in a fatal shooting in November 2016 will not face any charges.
Police have not released the name of the man who was killed after a police chase that began early Nov. 8 when Hays police tried to stop a vehicle that was driving recklessly.
An Ellis County sheriff's deputy joined the chase, which ended when the driver lost control and crashed in a field.

The Hays Post reports that the victims were found dead Friday afternoon inside a mobile home. Hays Police Chief Don Scheibler says a gas generator was found running inside the mobile home. Because the coroner has ruled the deaths accidental, officials have not released the victims' names.

Creasy, son of Greg Creasy of Huntington and Leigh Ann Blake of Barboursville, is majoring in finance.

Man arrested after theft of police vehicle in Manhattan

The Hays Post reports that the 32-year-old man was taken into custody early Saturday and is being held on $32,000 bond.
Former Fort Hays University official to be new president
HAYS, Kan. (AP) — The Kansas Board of Regents is bringing back a former Fort Hays State official to be the university's new president.
The board on Friday unanimously approved hiring Tisa Mason as 10th president of the school in Hays.
Mason was the vice president for student affairs at Fort Hays until 2014, when she became president of Valley City State University in Valley City, North Dakota.
NORFOLK — Services for Patricia A. Willis Bejot, 64, of Wakefield were held 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at Northern Heights Baptist Church in Norfolk. Burial was at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Ainsworth Cemetery in Ainsworth.
Bressler-Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield was in charge of arrangements.
She passed away peacefully at her home in Wakefield on Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2017.
