BASEL, Switzerland (AP) — Alexander Zverev became the first man to reach 50 wins on the ATP Tour this season by beating Robin Haase 6-4, 7-5 Wednesday in the first round of the Swiss Indoors.
The second-seeded German moved to 50-16 in a season that has brought three titles, including the Madrid Masters.
Zverev converted all four of his break points while saving eight of the 10 held by the 47th-ranked Dutchman.
BASTAD, Sweden (AP) — Fabio Fognini edged Fernando Verdasco for the first time on clay to reach the Swedish Open final against Richard Gasquet on Saturday.
Fognini won 6-1, 4-6, 7-5 even after losing two break leads in the deciding set of their 2-hour, 17-minute semifinal.
"Beating Fernando is really difficult. He is a great champion," Fognini said. "At the end, it is a lottery."

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) — John Isner, Jack Sock, Steve Johnson and Sam Querrey have been named to the U.S. Davis Cup roster that will face a Switzerland team that will not have Roger Federer or Stan Wawrinka next month.
