AUSTIN, Minn. (AP) _ Hormel Foods Corp. (HRL) on Tuesday reported fiscal fourth-quarter earnings of $261.4 million.
On a per-share basis, the Austin, Minnesota-based company said it had net income of 48 cents. Earnings, adjusted for asset impairment costs, were 51 cents per share.
The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 46 cents per share.
NEW YORK (AP) — Jennie-O Turkey recalled ground turkey in a salmonella outbreak, and regulators say additional products from other companies could be named as their investigation continues.
The recall was the first — not counting pet food — tied to a widespread and ongoing outbreak that has resulted in one death and 164 reported illnesses in 35 states.
Jennie-O's parent company, Austin, Minnesota-based Hormel Foods Corp., noted the recall was connected to one illness.

BARRON, Wis. (AP) — Officials confirm a low-pathogenic bird flu strain has been detected in a Jennie-O Turkey Store operation in western Wisconsin.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture posted notice of the case to the Organization for Animal Health's website Tuesday. Austin, Minnesota-based Hormel Foods Corp., which owns Willmar, Minnesota-based Jennie-O, confirmed the H5N2 strain was detected Saturday at its Barron, Wisconsin, operation.
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Hormel Foods Corp. said Tuesday it has stopped accepting hogs from a pork supplier in Oklahoma after an animal rights group released undercover video from a farm the supplier owns showing pigs in crowded pens and being hit with gas cans.
The company says is investigating the facility owned by The Maschhoffs, one of the largest pork producers in the U.S.
Hormel said third-party auditors would go to other Maschhoffs sites to check animal care standards.
